So......quite a few experiences I still have to write about...let's start with one of the most amazing/scary/fun experiences ever!!!!! After a night of partying in Heredia on St Patricks Day we left Heredia at about 1pm, 9 of us in a little van, on our way to Granada, Nicaragua. We finally get to Penas Blancas, the border, at about 6.45 and have to wait in line to get our passports stamped, which took about 1- 1 and a half hours in the sticky heat, surrounded by a lot of men trying to persuade you to change your Colones/Dollars into Cordobas or [View Full Entry]

Buenos Dias everyone! So after a week of intensive studying in Heredia it was about time I went to see other parts of the country, and what could be better than a weekend by the beach?!!! So after our exam testing our Spanish level, 6 of us and "tour guide" Gerry (a Costa Rican, aka "Tico") set off for Manuel Antonio, a beach resort/national park on the Pacific Coast. We stopped off at a bridge on the way where we saw about 20 crocodiles just lazing on their little island under the bridge!! (See the pictures.)We arrived at our sweet little [View Full Entry]

Buenos Dias everyone!! My first email from Heredia in Costa Rica.......I arrived on Sunday after a long, long journey with a 5 hour stop in Atlanta. My Tico dad and brother Erick picked me up from the airport. I really got thrown in the deep end, no speaking English, just Spanish. I mostly just said "uh Si Si, hmmm un poco....". As it was quite late and I had to be at school at 7.30 the next morning I went straight to my room. My room is an outhouse in the garden which is filled with beautiful colorful flowers and plants. Well the last 12 days sure were one of a kind! I spent them working as an information hostess for Audi at the AUTORAI 2005. I stood at the main desk in front of the stand with 2-3 other hostesses, trying to provide possible future Audi clients (and a lot of annoying little bratty kids) with the Audi information they needed. (aka give them brochures/posters, or point to one of the car advisors) Although I like to think I'm quite the Audi specialist now :) A lot of our time was spent rolling posters....one of the big favourite giveaways at our [View Full Entry]

To make money for this trip I started working as an events hostess, working at events and conferences. These could be as "exciting" as EU or UN conferences and as intellectually stimulating as working... [more]
Just a quick introduction to everyone, letting you know my plans for the coming 6 months and how I plan to keep you all updated!!! 6th of March 2005- departure Amsterdam -> Costa Rica!!! I'm going to be taking 4 weeks of Intensive Spanish Classes in Heredia, located in the Central Valley, hopefully with lots of fun activities outside of classes...I hear there's trips to Nicaragua, salsa classes, cooking classes (I'm guessing lots of meals with beans and rice...!!) and even a week of exchange with their school on the beach in Samara (pacific coast).
