We´re slightly behind with our diaries, but then we have been moving fast in the past week and seen so much!! It´s definitely time to update... We arrived in Merida during the hot midday and right in the south of town. The hostel we had heard about was in the north so quite a trek through the busy city. There were posters everywhere saying there´s a new hostel $4 per person and it was on our way so we thought we might as well check it out. And Krista was near to fainting so we needed a stop anyway. It was [View Full Entry]

Only a few days later and in comparison to the earlier entries, a lot has been seen and done!! From Isla Mujeres we left with a ferry at 10 am and got to cancun just half an hour later or so, from the port we took the bus to the station and were able to get a bus straight away to Valladolid, a small colonial city from where we could easily make our way to Chichen Itza and move on to Merida in the Yucatan state. The hostel we wanted to stay at in Valladolid was closed for maintenance for a [View Full Entry]

Our first stop: Isla Mujeres: (island of women) We are staying in a really nice and funky hostel on the beach (Poc Na) on this very backpacker island (plenty of Americans during the day too although most just come over for the day from the Cancun resorts)....very colourful houses and the backpackers we´ve met are much more international than in Cancun. Most are also surprised to hear we actually spent two nights in Cancun..most have come here straight from the airport, or are just ending their trip here...and don´t spend a night in Cancun at all. Our first full day was [View Full Entry]

Waiting for our ferry
Travelbuddies :)
Could the water BE any clearer??

Hello All!! After a long flight to Atlanta and a lot of meals and snacks followed by a short flight to Cahn-Cooon (the purser´s pronunciation, not ours) we arrived at our hostel (Chac-Mool) in Downtown Cancun around 8pm. It´s nice and humid, around 30 degrees, a nice change from the Dutch rain :) We had yet another little snack and went to bed, and had no trouble falling asleep. I (Floor) was awoken by Krista at around 4.30 am because she was convinced there was an animal (a large spider or scorpion) walking in our airconditioning. I mumbled "no don´t worry [View Full Entry]

A new chapter to my travelblog!! (Slightly delayed posting as usual) Me and Simone (younger sister) had decided it was time to take a break from our busy studies and booked a lastminute - splurged a little - and that's how we ended up in Egypt 2 weeks later! Being two girls on holiday alone in this male-oriented society was (how shall I put it) interesting, and we certainly got enough attention to give us an ego boost. Especially at the bazaars (markets) there was a lot of hissing and Arabic whispering and they said "Shakira" or "Hello- you are like [View Full Entry]

*note- there was a bit of a delay in publishing this entry, I've been back in the Netherlands since 14/9/05 Hey everyone... So we made it from the east coast over to the west coast! What a difference...We got to LA around midday, our shuttle bus driver told us all the stuff we had to know about staying in Hollywood (places to see, places to absolutely avoid), drove us all around the city too (OK so he had to drop off a few other tourists but still, we got the tour) Our hostel, the 'Hollywood International Hostel' was bang in [View Full Entry]

Bonjour!!! Our week in Montreal has been great.... Just out of camp where days and nights off are limited and it's difficult to coordinate to have these days with your friends, we're now altogether in this beautiful city. Eight of us left New Hampshire on Sunday (28/8), four of the girls, Jenny, Katie B., Katie D. and me in Jenny's car, and the 4 boys; Andy, Ali, Irek (only came up for the first night!) and Mark by bus. Lee and Jess M. came in another car on Tuesday as did Rowan, Remy and Doughty in Doughty's car. Then Jess B. [View Full Entry]

Banter at the metro station

Howdy everyone, What a strange thought that my 10 weeks here at camp are over as of tomorrow!!! It's been a great summer again, we've had great weather, great campers, and after all the sicknesses at the barn we were left with 7 great horses too! For the last week I was a counselor in Cabin Z. With a few counselors having to leave early for college they were short so I volunteered. It was a big change from the last time, when I had Cabin S (some of the youngest campers) to move into the Senior division, with some of [View Full Entry]

Howdy everyone!! Haven't written for a long time but I will update you all on my camp lifestyle and routine. There really isn't a big change to what we do every week you see, apart from special days but I'll get to that later. And we share the computer between around 50 staff members so I don't have a lot of time to write either! Staff week was quiet, just training sessions, not too many new things but a good opportunity to get to know the rest of the staff. My parents also managed to pay me a visit and check [View Full Entry]

So much time has passed and what a change from Costa Rica!!! After the flights and delays I finally got to La Guardia at around 2.30am, by then a pretty deserted airport. With luck not really on my side, my backpack lost somewhere between Atlanta and New York, the SuperShuttle not turning up for another 2 hours I decided I would rather pay 40 dollars for a cab than wait! I wanted to get to my sister's place ASAP so that I would FINALLY be able to get some sleep. It was great to see my sister and her boyfriend Floris [View Full Entry]
