It has been such an amazing experience and I am sure that this weekend will prove to do the same.. I am going to keep up with this weekend on my phone with the notes app so when I arrive back on Monday there will already be a post ready for the blog! The tenses will be all over the place!  Okay or as they say here "vale" .. I am on the train headed to Valencia..  We left today for Madrid at 330 by taking the .88 centavo (cents) bus to the train station in Segovia.. Then the20 min train to Madrid.. Barcelona! July 14 to 17 then Madrid 17 to 18 What a weekend..is all I really have to say about our "long" weekend in Spain. We accomplished so many things that it felt as though I was gone from my "home" of Segovia for a week--even though 5 days is close to a week. Thursday July 14 Travel Group: Rachel, Jillian (she went to Pamplona with us), Carey Beth, Ali, Sami, and Elizabeth. After a long day of classes, we all had our lunches and headed to the bus station to travel to the train station to go to Madrid to then take a metro to the airport to take a plane to Barcelona then a bus to Barcelona city centre to take a metro to an area around our "hostel" to walk the rest of ... read more

12 de julio de 2011: Salamanca, Avila, y la cena Today we went to Salamanca and Avila as a group excursion. One of our teachers was late today by 8 minutes then two students were late by 10 minutes. I am very frustrated by this especially since Rachel and I are always at least 10 minutes early. Come on people, we all have to be there at 7:30am. Suck it up. When we finally left, we took very curvy roads which did not help my motion sickness...plus the bus had NO air on. I thought everyone in the back was going to get sick, so I clearly asked for the air to be turned on. Side note: The air was so hot and gross that it seemed as though we were not meant to breathe used ... read more

Random side notes about Spain: There always seems to be a negative odor around..I don't know why yet. Clearly in Pamplona it was because people were living in the streets. There are tons of roundabouts so it is just like home..except there are stoplights on alot of the roundabouts which I find very interesting. All of the spanish stores play American/english music. I don't know why..but I am looking forward to going out in Barcelona to hopefully hear some spanish music! The sun here, like at home, doesn't set until around 10pm but that is okay because we don't eat dinner until 10pm every day. All of the "emergency exit signs" are green with a man running and an arrow. I wonder if this makes for more chaos because everyone thinks they should be in a ... read more

Pamplona day 2 y 3: "Just call me Ava" We woke up at 5:30am after going to bed around 2:30am to head to the encierro/aka running of the actual bulls. We slowly got ready & made the first bus that leaves at 6:30am. At the bus stop we ran into these American girls...we met them the night before & they had gone out the whole entire night and gotten back one hour before headed back out again. They looked awful & were still drunk ...making for the obnoxious & embarrassing Americans. When we all got on the bus, I told Rachel and Jillian that we would follow this set of 8 women who were older & looked like they knew what they were doing. The loud obnoxious American girls asked us where they should get off ... read more

First day: PAMPLONA! On Friday 8 of July Jillian, Raquel, and I headed to Pamplona. The bus ride from Segovia to the train station was about 20 minutes, and we were literally taken to the middle of nowhere..which mean the BFE of Segovia. I was convinced we were on the wrong bus headed to our death. We made it safely to the train station..but the station was an experience. We were in line to go to a bus, when a man saw our tickets for Madrid and told us (in spanish) that we were in the wrong line and to go that way..The other direction. The problem was that the direction we were headed was for the bathrooms. Clearly that was wrong. Turns out you can only go through "security" when your train is boarding. So, ... read more

Toledo: 5 de julio de 2011 On Tuesday we all traveled to Toledo, which is about 2 hours south of Segovia. Our trip was started a half hour late because while 31 out of the 33 of us sat on the bus..2 girls were missing. We all knew who they were. The director of the program called their señora and she woke up them. Thus, they showed up 35minutes late. So the rest of the drive when the director of our program would talk she would mention how we are very behind schedule & need to hurry. Umm..it is not our fault it is the 2 girls who on the first day said they came to party not to study at all. Really? Fast forward in time: This night our señora told us that she talked ... read more

Madrid & Funny Story about el Metro: The program visited Madrid on Saturday the second of July & while there we had hours of free time after 2pm. About the day: When we visited Madrid, it was very cool--there were many people and it is a huge city. We got off the city bus, which was very nice, and continued on an uphill walk to the garden of the castle. El Palacio Real--we walked through the very plain gardens (no need to ever see those) and then the castle. It was grand and beautiful. Basically, I should live there. (A true princess at heart=Emily) Then we continued to walk to the Plaza Mayor and la Plaza de Sol. La plaza de sol is where the protests for working and other problems in Spain are occurring. THey calmed ... read more
