After a mega mission from Belize, through Guatemala, to Mexico on 5 buses, a boat, a truck, a couple of collectivos and a taxi, we finaly arrived at Puerto Escondido, 3 days later. A nice place with great weather and super warm water. This coastline is full of perfect waves, lots of swell and morning offshores. We explored the coast about 2 1/2 hours drive each side of puerto escondido. There are mainly small villages in between the highway and the coast. Lots of dirt tracks leading to deserted beaches and dead ends in farmland. We first bused it 2 hours [View Full Entry]

Crossing the border from Guatamala to Beleize was a big change as everybody speaks english!! As much as i have enjoyed all the travels through the spanish speaking country it was nice to be able to have a proper conversation with the taxi driver! We headed straight for the caribbean coast to an island called Caye Caulker Just off the Barrier reef. Second biggest Reef in the world next to our own true blue Aussie Great Barrier Reef. The island consisted of dirt roads, a few golf buggies, lots of Rastas´ Dreadlocks and a hammock bar. The place was very chilled [View Full Entry]

In Guatemala we headed for Antigua, a town near the dangerous Guatemala city. Antigua is an old city that has cobblestone roads and stone buildings all in the same style. Every shop seems to fit the style of the town. This is a backpacker hotspot as there are a few missions nearby so Antigua is a good base. It constantly rained while we were there and the streets seemed to flood every night. We planned a visit to Mt Pacayo a local volcano, which has lava flowing all of the time. The best time to see it is early morning or [View Full Entry]

We ventured up to Nicaragua by bus arriving at night in a town called San Juan Del Sur. This was a weird one because they have some issues with power. So the place is really dark with the buzzing of generators to power the restaurants and houses. Its a cool spot, another fishing port, but with nice yachts and other pleasure craft mored in the bay next to town. It had a good vibe as everyone was friendly and easy going. Sensing that we had been followed again by a guy that we met south america after seeing him in numerous [View Full Entry]

Back on route North we stopped in at Golfito to organise a hire car so we could explore the Corcavado national park. A place which we heard from a few people throughout the journey as a must see spot. Basically there is a huge bay, with waves breaking down each side of the entrance. On the northern side a huge national park covers a large part of the coastline and deep in to the jungle. We hired a small suzuki 4wd for the trip and lucky it was 4wd as there were a few river crossings through swollen rivers. First [View Full Entry]

After Puerto Viejo, we headed down to the next country south called Panama. We waited in the immagration line in the boiling sun for over an hour we were piled onto a mini bus and taken to a river boat. Here we were told though that the boat was full and there were no more till late that afternoon. Somehow within a few minuites we were in another car which took us over a mountain full of banana plantations and finally made it on another boat to the islands off Bocas Del Torro. Bocas Del torro is a group of islands [View Full Entry]

After Bens bag and passport was stolen in Ecuador he had to fly down to peru to sort it all out. I had to find somewhere to wait for him for a week and unfortunatly I just had to spend the week lazing around in the warm water on the caribbean coast of Costa Rica. Walking down the dirt streets lined with coconut palms and market stalls selling anything that resembled Bob marley It felt like I was in Jamaica. The place was filled with Black caribbean locals most of who had long Rustas (dreadlocks) Nothing moved very fast in this [View Full Entry]

Ecuador South America » Ecuador
From Peru we pushed on north into Ecuador and got off yet another long bus ride in Guayaquil. This was the biggest bus station we had seen yet, people and buses absolutely everywhere. It was warm and humid but not as hot as we imagined being close to the equator. We had a short stop here then towards the coast to Montanita, a place that some other travelers that we met said was a nice little town.. A man on a bike asked us if we wanted to stay at the hostel which he worked at, so we had a look. [View Full Entry]

Nearing the ocean again we stopped at Nazca to see the huge drawings in the desert. Before we came away we had been to Em’s Grandparents for dinner and they had told us of their trip to South America many years ago. We were fascinated when Noni told us of these Nazca lines and so were very excited to see them for ourselves. The Nazca Lines cover an area in the Nazca desert of about 500 square kilometers. These lines are to this day a great mystery to the world. They are thought to have been created by the Nazca people [View Full Entry]
