Firenze
From Piazza Michelangelo
Firenze is one of the hotspots of Italian art and literature, it was the home (for some time) of the real life Ninja Turtles! So, we arrived on Saturday afternoon, and checked into the Hostel, then went for a walk. It was stunning! Its not a very big city, and everything is within walking distance, so there was no need for bicycles. We just strolled around and saw the major attractions, ate some good pasta and coffee and coffee and more coffee! Sunday was the same, except we went to the Academia Museum which houses Michaelangelo's famous David sculpture. It was [View Full Entry]

In the center of Milano.
We arrived in Milan at about 3pm and did the usual checkin to the hostel. The only difference was that the place we stayed at wasn't a hostel, it was actually a two star Hotel! Milan is not as touristy as say Florence or Rome, hence the shortage of Hostels. So, the two star Hotel was luxury! We didnt have to share our room with anyone, we had a television, our own bathroom, fresh towles daily, even free soap and shampoo! It was great!! So we checked in and then went for a stroll to get some lunch. We found a [View Full Entry]

We didnt plan to come to Switzerland on this trip, but after hearing stories from other travellers, and looking at those pictures hanging at my desk each day while at work, I just couldnt help myself... All the photos hanging at my desk really do Switzerland the justice that it deserves! Its a spectacular place!! There was still snow on the alps, beautiful lakes, cows with bells around their necks, watches and chocolate! Luzern We only stayed one night in Luzern. We arrived at about midday, made our way to the hostel to drop off our bags, then went out and [View Full Entry]

Munich

 Europe » Germany » Bavaria » Munich
Back in Germany, but this time - Munich... The city of Monks... I think in my past life, I was from Munich. Nothing else explains my passion for beer, skiing and bike riding. This blog is going to be short and sweet... The german keyboards are hard to type on, im hungry, we leave tomorrow, and there is a beer garden within 5 minutes walk from here. Thursday We arrived in Munich at 6am after an over-night train ride from Budapest, it was a cramped up sleeper with two beds that i only just fit into. I found it hard to [View Full Entry]

Sunday We arrived in Budapest at about lunch-time on Sunday. It has a really nice feel to it, kind of old-school and not too commercial yet, but still eastern Europe. They cant speak English that well here, but we get by. We got lost coming out of the train station so finding our hostel was a bit of an ordeal but apart from that, we havn't had any troubles really. This hostel is small, very cosy and home like, its in an old apartment block, has an open kitchen which is good and a laundry! Its good location, and the internet [View Full Entry]

Friday Vienna - the capital of Austria. We arrived in Vienna at about midday, and by the time we found the Hostel and settled down, it was about 3pm.. The weather in Vienna was much better than Prague - at least the sun was out! To introduce ourselves to Vienna, we signed up for a Friday NiteRide guided bike tour! It was great - they took us to all the tourist sights and Palaces around town, then we they took us to a very old wine cellar under the historical part of town for an Austrian wine sample. The wine was [View Full Entry]

So we arrived in Prague at about noon on Tuesday after about 4 hours on the train from Berlin, and made our way to the Hostel. We are staying at the Czech Inn, which is a short tram-ride to the centre of town. The breakfast at the Czech Inn is great!! Prague is a beautiful old city - cobble-stoned roads, with a charming feel to it. It has been very cold and overcast here - going out during the day in 4 layers of clothing and a jacket, and much colder at night! Hopefully the wether will get better in the [View Full Entry]

Our last day in Amsterdam was the best, hired bikes, was again lovely weather, just rode around the place, visted more sites and parks and canals and windmills. Was a good end to our stint in Amsterdam. We woke up early the next morning for our train to Berlin. 6 hour train ride. Was nice, their train system is really organized and fast. As soon as we crossed over the holland/german border, on came german police, german attends and train drivers. The police spotted us in the carriage and checked us FIRST out of any one else! they even rang headquaters [View Full Entry]

Berlin

Firstly, Amsterdam is amazing... We arrived on Tueday morning after a 22+ hour flight from Sydney, which was quite eventless apart from seeing an Australian air-force jet fly-by somewhere over central NSW. Tuesday, we spent the day walking around and trying to get our bearings in this place. It's a wonderful place, full of old buildings and architecture from another time. It's very european, yet very multicultral. There is a blend of Dutch, Moroccan, African, German, Turkish, Afgans and more, which makes for interesting food choices and conversations. Our first night in a Hostel was actually quite good - the other [View Full Entry]

Go that way for about 100m, then turn left at the traffic lights, and the campsite is about 500m down that road.
It's interesting how things happen. It takes an overseas trip for me to start blogging - but any excuse is better than none i guess. I always had the feeling that although it would be nice to write interesting articles about my personal life for the whole internet to see, but i just couldn't be bothered... After swearing against it, I took the plunge and joined facebook with peer-pressure solely to blame. So, since this is my first blogging experience, forgive my relative n00b'ness. More importantly, i'm about to go on an adventure... Get away, see some of the world, and [View Full Entry]
