We arrived in Milan at about 3pm and did the usual checkin to the hostel. The only difference was that the place we stayed at wasn't a hostel, it was actually a two star Hotel! Milan is not as touristy as say Florence or Rome, hence the shortage of Hostels. So, the two star Hotel was luxury! We didnt have to share our room with anyone, we had a television, our own bathroom, fresh towles daily, even free soap and shampoo! It was great!!
So we checked in and then went for a stroll to get some lunch. We found a typical italian pastry shop and ordered coffees and foccia. It was fantastic! Coffee everywhere else in Europe has been quite disapointing so i have been avoiding it, but i'm once again a happy boy, and feel better now i'm back on the caffene.
We then went for a stroll into the centre of town. Milan is the working city of Italy. It is the financial hub, and the centre of Italy's big business, so there isn't much to see from a tourists perspective except for Il Duomo - a massive gothic Cathedral in the centre of town, and
some Castle that we missed. So, there aren't many photos to post in this entry.
As we all know, Milan is however one of the fashion capitals of the world! So, we spent most of our time walking the streets of Milan, window shopping, and occasinally entering some of the big name Italian brand stores like D&G, Prada, Armani, etc... We can't afford anything in these stores, but the stores themselves are amazing! Multi-leveled stylish places where everything is in perfect order, not a fingerprint or trace of dust on any mirror or bench. It felt more like a museum! I didn't want to touch anything... Most of these places even have cafes where you can enjoy an expensive brand name coffee or meal!
Apart from window shopping, and dreaming about owning a D&G suit, Milano involved drinking good coffee, and lots of it and eating even better food.
Italy has forced us to ween of our high intake of beer as per previous venues, and we're on the coffee and gelato instead!
La bella vita!
