Ok, so I made it to Dresden, after the first official train journey of my rail trip from Berlin to Budapest. Train travel in Europe is very convienient (admittedly I am comparing it to WA where there is really only a metropolitan service and even then that isn't the most convienient). Plush chairs, space, and even if it is crowded it is still quite comfortable. Much more comfortable than travelling by plane. And I was able to update my journal so I was all up to date and ready to write about the next adventure. I arrived in Dresden with very few expectations. Even now I can't really recall why it was on my list of places to visit. I'm sure there was a reason but it has floated away. Anyway, I arrived in Dresden with ... read more
Yup, I am writing completely out of sync entries because, quite simply, I haven´t had the internet access to be able to update you on my European travels. So, a quick update: Barcelona is huge and crazy and dirty and mad and loud and despite being December, not that cold. Okay, 10 -14 degrees isn´t exactly warm but I have thoroughly acclimitised and am not feeling like I am freezing to death like I did in Vienna (a story for another entry). Escueala is good - I am on week 2 on my language course and although I am learning a lot I am struggling to hold a conversation that actually makes sense...not that this is abnormal for me, but you know what I mean. For some reason, today in particular, I am frustrated and impatient ... read more
Ok, alright, I know...you have been waiting a while for my mysterious tales of adventure ...doesn't that mean they will sound even more fun because you have been waiting so long? On second thoughts, don't answer that. Anyway, I am going to attempt to finish the story of my travel so without further prattling, here goes... So, after my trip to Cornwall, which is where technically, I last left you, I stayed in London working hard, vaguely aclimitising to life and generally staying out of too much mischief. Luckily for me I got to head up to Scotland for work so that eased the burden slightly and then after much delaying I finally handed in my resignation from work. Now, although I knew I wanted to stay on the road and keep travelling and I wasn't ... read more
Hey everyone, here is just a little message from moi! Couldn't email it through so you are just going to have to cope with have to view this through the blog! Love you all, Dani xxx... read more
Oddly enough there are several thoughts coursing through my mind... Like, for instance, do some people really have such full and happy lives that when other interesting and pleasant (what a bland word), scratch that, instead, do random interactions, pleasurable or otherwise, really fall by the wayside amongst the vibrant and turmultuous ride that is their normal life? So many crossed paths, forked roads, risks observed, taken or ignored, blows cushioned, glances and smiles shared, moments passed but where is the recognition? Does there need to be recognition? Where is the meaning? Or why should there be meaning? And when should you stand up and wave and say 'hi, I want to come along for the ride too'? How do you become part of that ride? Or if you do that, would that create immeasurable problems/challenges ... read more
Drum roll please...yup, this is it, completely out of sync and chronologically challenged...the missing month (ok probably a little more than that if I'm perfectly honest but...ok, I can't lie, not my kind of vice, this is long overdue and I know it). The thing with writing about my trip to Cornwall is that there is so much pressure with this one. See, this one, I promised to print out, pics and all and send to Jenny, the lovely Jenny, hence the pressure to get it right! So, here goes... First of all, did you know that the Cornish word/name for Cornwall is Kernow? Yup, which, incidentally, every time I think that, reminds me of Cheryl Kernogh...sad, but true. Anyway, one cold and stormy night...ok, scratch that, it wasn't either, but I really need to remember ... read more
So this is technically not a 'real' travellers blog. I am bored and have noticed a couple of strange things recently. 1. I am starting to understand/recognise GBP...well coinage at least. Very strange. I have clearly been in 1 place for too long. 2. I don't know what the sun is like any more and my skin is a sexy shade of pasty. 3. It is September...therefore, the start of Autumn and apparently wearing a coat and water proof mascara in order to avoid panda eyes from the rain is a necessity. 4. Professionally, people need to realise that laughter is not a sin. I would swear, but this is a family show. Consider lots of expletives added here, as well as a suggestion to chill out and shove it also said and read. 5. Slovenly, ... read more
Apologies for the randomness that was the last blog. I was in no fit state to update you all on the adventures of the last few weeks, let along give you an insight to the cultural nuances of Paris. So instead I made a decision to ramble on…clearly the tube air is getting to me. Seriously, I think it must be. I have had the sniffles for what feels like forever, although I did have a permanent cold before I left Australia so perhaps I shouldn’t blame the stinky, dirty tube. Riding the tube has become an exercise in contortions, heat and sweat ...and not in a sexy way. In New York I got first hand knowledge that their trains are actually cleaned - I saw them being mopped and cleaned at the end of the ... read more
Here goes everyone, hold onto your hats, the next installment is here! Alright, it probably won't blow your hat off, but hopefully you won't fall asleep on your keyboard either. So the previous installment saw me safely housed and rejoining the world of work with Accenture. Nothing to thrilling about that apart form the fact that earning some £££ is very important at the moment because my bank accounts are suffering from the drought. So I am happily commuting into the City of London everyday, only 5 stops from home to Bank station, battling on occasion with the crowds and cramming myself onto the tube much like a sardine into a can, but generally having a fairly easy run of it. I am even walking up the escalators in an attempt to give myself a brief ... read more
They say that your home is your castle but for the last little while, my bag has been my castle! Living out of a bag is quite a lifestyle and I have to say I can definitely pack some stuff in there! Problem with that skill is that you end up carrying around very, very heavy bags. Anyway, I am digressing. I recently went to Bodiem Castle with my Nan and her friend Julia. Having vetoed going to Leeds Castle - too pricey for those on a tight budget - we headed to Bodiem which is in East Sussex, near Tenterden and Hastings. I actually have memories of Bodiem from when I was a little girl. Massive goldfish swimming in the moat and we had a book when I was growing up that explained all about ... read more
