Beefeater at the Tower
Beefeater at the Tower
They're quite friendly, indeed.
Bring plenty of British Pounds. So much to see and do in London, we'll have to come back! We had great fish & chips at St. Georges' Tavern near the Victoria train station. Saw Big Ben, London Eye-went for a ride, Tower of London, Westminster Abbey, Trafalger Square, Buckingham Palace, Changing of the Guard, The Royal Mews, St. Paul's Cathedral and the final flight of the Concorde just to name a few. We are visiting London and England again in April 2005. [View Full Entry]

End of an icon.
Yes, we were there (in London) 24th October 2003, when three British Airways Concordes, after 34 years of service ended a chapter in supersonic aviation history. It was quite a historic event when all around London, crowds of enthusiastic on-lookers cheered as the three Concordes, within minutes of each other, flew over London before making their final touchdown shortly after 4pm at Heathrow airport. We will never forget this truly special and historic visit to London. [View Full Entry]

This was the best and most exciting part of our trip, one which Holly, Stacy and I will never forget. Holly's father was Raymond E. Talman of Willits, California, USA. Her grandfather was Sidney P.S. Talman of Aldershot, Surrey and her great grandfather was James Talman of Ipswich, Suffolk and he lived in Aldershot with his wife, Holly's great grandmother Florence Talman (formerly Stonehouse). Thanks to Elgar and Julia Hay for your kindness and warm hospitality, and getting Girlie and all the other relatives together for our visit. Thanks again Elgar & Julia for everything. We can't than [View Full Entry]

The Three Druids?
Stonehenge is the most important prehistoric monument in the whole of Britain. It is unique, and there is nothing else like it anywhere in the world. From the earliest times it has aroused the awe of visiters as one of the wonders of Britain. The monument we see today is the much ruined final phase of Stonehenge, the prehistoric temple in use some 3,600 years ago. [View Full Entry]

AWESOME!

We are now in Bath. From the first century AD to the twentieth, people have been drawn to this place to seek comfort, cure and cleansing in the hot water that rises to its heart. What remains today is a remarkable sequence of ancient, medieval and later structures that give testimony to the continuous use of hot water here over nearly 2,000 years. [View Full Entry]

One Thousand years of history. The Mound, first built in 1068 on the orders of William the Conqueror, it formed the most important part of the Norman castle's defense. Today, it is the perfect vantage point, not for defending against marauding English troops, but for taking in the beautiful unfolding views of these peaceful grounds. [View Full Entry]

The Manor
The Manor house is said to be haunted by the ghost of Mad Maude.
The Weston Manor Hotel, showpiece of the lovely village of Weston-on-the-Green and where I worked as a dining-room waiter during 1974. The medieval Baron's Hall (present dining-room) was the bailiffs court for the Abbott of Osney who owned the house before the dissolution of the monasteries by King Henry VIII in the 16th century. Subsequently the great land owning families, the Earls of Abingdon and Berkshire - the "Norreys and Berties" resided at Weston Manor until the death of the last heir during the great war in 1917. The building was converted into a hotel in the late 1940's, and bo [View Full Entry]

Our trip down Memory Lane starts at "The Lawns" B&B in Woodstock, which served as our home base. A great little town with good restaurants and Pubs. I lived in Oxfordshire at the nearby RAF Base Upper Heyford (1972-1974) with the US Air Force. Also worked as a dining room waiter at the Weston Manor Hotel (1974) in the village of Weston-on-the-Green near Bicester. [View Full Entry]
