Picked up the skis this morning, hoping to break them in before lessons start in earnest tomorrow, but seem to be suffering with jet lag and the beginnings of a cold :-( Had a short ski (and took some photos which I thought I'd post as it was rather pretty) but took it easy in the hot tub and lounging on the sofa this afternoon. It was very weird skiing through the cloud to get to base again. Really hope I can get an unbroken night's sleep tonight - will be my first since arrival!... read more

Soundtrack for today is School Days by AC/DC - enjoy... I arrived here late on Tuesday night - it's now Saturday early evening and I'm already being told off for lack of blog entries (mentioning no names Ian)! So a recap of the last couple of days: Wednesday Pretty much an admin day. Welcome meeting and briefing in the morning where we had talks from the guy who will run our backcountry course in week 6, Robert from Snow Patrol (not the band) who seemed to be a frustrated comedian and a lady from the medical centre, as well as from Lyndsay and Paul from Alltracks. The flight was pretty uneventful and we drove from Vancouver in the dark so not much to tell there. Things that livened the journey: * the mad old bat sitting across the aisle who ignored all seatbelt signs during turbulence, told the entire cabin that she had no spoon for her ice cream (we all pointed out that it was inside the lid) and in profile bore a startling resemblance to Tom Baker * the Air Canada hostess ... read more

No, not a reference to 80s hair metal (although I am now inspired to add it as the soundtrack to this entry - The Final Countdown ), but an acknowledgement that I am now less than 9 days away from departure. I still have a list as long as my arm of things to do/prepare/organise and people to see before I go, yet here I sit having a lazy Sunday and putting all of that off. I am excited to be going, but I'm also a little nervous at setting off on my own for the first time, albeit into a fairly structured environment for the first 3 months. After some weeks of nervous checking, the snow is now building very nicely (check out the Snow Report ) and although I've not managed the fitness regime ... read more
