Happiest New Year, world travelers! Such a good idea to go traveling at holiday time, maybe except all the other travelers?? Nice of you to mention Brandy Ho's, been a long while since one of those luscious "dumplings" and cant see ever having another until they learn how to make them gf. heh, entirely doable. looking toward part 2...xoxo

nice, glad you's felt like venturing out. Look for some medicinal mushrooms, visit an herbalist? Sure to heal fast! Im hoping. Mouthwatering foods, never enough hollandaise! Carry on, be well! Xo

working backwards
Reading backwards, discovered I wrote me last comments in the subject area...duhhh...so methinks you have earned well the food snob tag. You know what tastes good. I will only say this once (a year) and that is I look forward to the day when you get off gluten. The idea must be terrifying but these days it's not the terror I experienced when I got off the toxin 7yrs ago. Much easier now and with your imagination, should be no problem. guess it's just getting one's head wrapped around the idea, eh? Just want you as healthy as is possible, feeling good! Good review of crepery, likened to Renatas was cool. Will tell them and point out your blog when next in. Yes, you's are making some fab memories when you find yourselves in your rocking chairs...the Rhone Valley?? Can't get a fix on this but feel it a European valley? Be well, me darlings!

Entitled People
I hate traveling near people who complain about every little thing. It ruins the experience for those of us trying to relax and enjoy the ride. Of course, it seems to be a more common affliction with the younger generation. I hope my kids aren't some of the guilty ones. As for the food snob comment, I was teasing you. I like the commentary. It gives me ideas about what I might want to try when we actually go abroad. There's no chance Jeff is going to be daring. His stomach is too finicky for that.

Food Choices
Obsessed with food or food snob??? (*grins*) And I would love to spend as much time engaging in the culture of a place as you and Jerry do, but my traveling companion(s) are generally all about being entertained. When we go to Italy (2018 is the planned time), all that is going to change. I would LOVE to go to a truly Renaissance period place while there. In Florence specifically. Jeff is only giving me ten days and I don't think that's going to be enough time to really immerse myself in the culture.

You have my sympathy. I accidentally tackled up a $1500 phone bill in Spain & Portugal. I managed to slide that through at work as it was my work phone.

Aparagus Ice Cream???
I adore aparagus. And you know I think ice cream should be it's own food group, but aparagus ice cream sounds TERRIBLE. However, I trust your food judgment, so I'm going to have to find a place to try this delicacy. Or maybe travel to Maine and get it at Hugo's?

Hello Portland
Oh, we just finished out the Oregon strawberry season here, but strawberry rhubarb cheesecake sounds pretty delicious (my mother-in-law makews THE BEST strawberry rhubarb crisp). You don't have a sweet tooth? That must mean Connie and I got an extra portion of the genetics on that one. I would just as soon have dessert and skip the rest (although that asparagus salad sounded pretty delicious). Hope you guys have a great time!

Wonderful Blog!
My wife and recently stumbled across you blog while researching our 10 year anniversary trip to France next year and we both thought it was wonderfully written and very entertaining, we really loved the food and wine reviews you provided. Having not been back since 2009 where we visited, Paris, Angers, Arles, Annecy, and Charmonix, your blog brought back some good memories of our trip there. My wife did a study abroad semester at the University in Angers, France while she was in college so it's nice to have someone who can speak the language. Anyways, hope you have not stopped blogging and looked forward to future entries. Nick

Hi guys, just want to say how much I am loving your blog! I started reading as I was searching for Berlin blogs as we are having our first visit there in January 2014. I then noticed that you had been to Prague and Salzburg, where we are also going for the first time, then I noticed Paris!!!! My favourite city of all time, have been three times in the last two years and wish I could go once more. Just loving everything I am reading. I particularly relate to the 5.30 wake ups, that is exactly what happens to me when I go to Europe, but my hubby just sleeps and sleeps ... Love your wine thirty - we have wine o\'clock lol. I think you may actually drink more wine that us, though I didn\'t think that was possible. Your whole way of holidaying seems very much like the way my husband and I like to holiday, really focussing on food and wine and just having a great time. I now intend to read all of the Paris bits, and look at some of your old blogs from your 50th in Paris. We turned 50 a couple of years ago, so can again relate. Thanks for a great read. Deb

Just what I needed - more homework
That Istar Gate looks spectacular. Now I'm going to have to Google it and learn the history, and I still have two papers to perfect (due tonight). Thanks! Are you going to establish a potato restaurant in Portland since you think it would work?

Yum
Rhubarb apple strudel sounds like a fantastic dessert fantasy. Whenever I read your posts, I'm always hungry afterwards. Fortunately (or perhaps, unfortunately) I'm never hungry for anything I can get in the metropolis of St. Helens.

Metro Challenges
It's a good thing you have so much big city experience with metros and subways. For a less experienced rider (like me) I would probably still be on the train. Maybe I would have ended up in a different city even! All the electrical storms sound exciting. I love those things.

Wow! The palace and the maze look amazing!! Loved the story about the calories by the way. It really does explain so much. It seems like you guys are having a great trip. I really enjoy reading your posts each day and traveling (and eating) vicariously. So happy you're coming back to PDX with some new recipes. I feel so conveniently located to be a taste tester ;)

Hello
Your trip sounds wonderful. I've been craving veal schnitzel ever since you hit Austria. I had a friend from Jersey, C.I. who was from a family of hoteliers and he'd studied cooking in a Swiss school for hoteliers. When he visited me in Portland, he made the most divine veal schnitzel I have ever tasted. So happy to hear you're enjoying every step of the way!

Thanks
Thanks for checking out that grand piano for me. I completely understand that it doesn't fit in your luggage, so you're forgiven. I'll bet is sounded 1000 times better than the baby grand I played at church today. Glad to hear you two are having such a great time.
