As we fly home, we already experienced some excitement with my camera. As we headed towards our first security stop, Yui calls Sarah to tell her that Fah has my camera! This all started because I had two carry-on items already and I needed someone to carry my camera, so I gave it to Katie. During our final goodbyes, Katie must have passed the camera for Fah to hold and she accidently left the airport with it! This camera has been temporarily left behind multiple times during the flight home (not going to lie, I was losing trust in Katie quickly). Our flight home was very long to say the least. Especially with my sick stomach, that only added extra annoyance on a long flight home. The plane ride back was a good time for ... read more

Our last breakfast was homemade chicken tenders and rice. I only ate a couple of bites because I woke up still feeling awful. We took a walk down to the market by the hospital. All I wanted was some cookies, so I bought a bag of vanilla cookies for 10 Baht. Well, apparently, they were Durian flavored cookies and I couldn’t even finish the bite I took. They were awful. I later gave them to Aj JoJo. After leaving the market with another bag of cookies, this time chocolate (you can never mistake chocolate), I went back and rested right before lunch. Lunch was nostalgic in that this meal was served to on our very first day as well, Pad Thai and mango with sticky rice! It was delicious and I’m pretty sure nearly everyone got ... read more

I mine as well continue the pattern of listing my breakfast since I’m almost done. Breakfast was rice and broth soup, and Chinese doughnuts. However, I woke up feeling pretty sick, more or less a malaise feeling. In that case, I only ate one bite of soup and a bite from the doughnut and drank my cup of coffee. In the morning we went to Kad Laung, a market that we went to on our very first day in Thailand. I was able to buy a hat that I spotted that first evening and bought it, what a long wait to purchase it! I also bought a pork pan dish that I’m super excited about. We went to the grocery store in the afternoon and I found this to be very similar to our grocery store, ... read more

Breakfast time is calling! Beef on a stick, pork filled dumplings and purple sticky rice. On our agenda today was our second round of Thai massages. I was a bit hesitant going into it as my last Thai massage was very rough on my body. Perhaps it was because I had a male masseuse last time and they are inherently stronger. As I walked into the room today, it was the same room as before and I saw the same masseuse. I was still nervous as I lied on one of the beds that he was going to massage me, and I was going to be sweating the whole time (again!). However, I was in luck, he was two rows down and just waived “Hi” as he remembered me. The massage I got today turned ... read more

Let’s talk about breakfast, fried chicken wings, delicious stir fry with rice and soup! This morning we attended the Nursing Student Conference in which multiple schools from around Thailand attended and presented. The presentations were mainly on topics such as non-communicable diseases, stroke, diabetes and youth prevention of obesity. Our students from Messiah presented on obesity as well. It was pretty interesting learning about the common preventative and follow up care Thailand uses compared to the US. It is often found that services will follow up with you by visiting your home to check how you are doing and to make sure you are still on track for a targeted health plan. In the evening, Aubrey, Katie, Sarah, Emily and I went out to dinner with Mint, the nurse from the Neuro ICU from NKP ... read more

Upon waking up this morning, I got ready as quickly as possible to run down to the beach to facetime my parents for the sole purpose of making them jealous. Well, not that harsh necessarily, but as they love the ocean, I know they would love to see the view! After our delicious breakfast I decided to take a 15 min nap in the comfiest bed in all of Thailand (well at least compared to the beds at BCNC) just because I know I would miss that comfort in the long car ride ahead. Our lunch stop was pretty “authentic” as I would call it as the first thing we were served was a portion of fish cut right through the center of the body, skin, bone, spine and all. Turns out the food was ... read more

Now let’s get serious about breakfast… how about endless ordering of food from omelets to waffles and crepes! Our day was filled with hours of snorkeling and swimming in the Gulf of Thailand, off of Koh Chang. After diving into the water, I was a bit hesitant as I am instinctively afraid of fish (even though I love to eat them). The thing is, I’ve practically grown up on the water and swam with fish my whole life, I just don’t have a fond love of them surrounding me and touching my legs while I swim. Needless to say, I got over this rather quickly today! The fish were absolutely beautiful, especially the rainbow-colored fish! After a few different snorkeling spots, I kept grabbing random masks on the boat. To be honest, this really grossed ... read more

To start off my morning well, I had my times all mixed up. I felt very blessed to have roommates this morning as I had my alarm set for an hour ahead. I thought that breakfast was at 6:45, but I woke up in a rush to find out it was at 5:45. I was wondering why everyone was up so early when I thought we had an hour left to sleep! To add to the great start of the morning, after breakfast of chicken and rice soup, we were all packed and started walking until Sarah reminded me I forgot my bathing suit. The only place I needed to bring a bathing suit for (Koh Chang) and I forgot it! So, I sprinted up three flights of stairs and shoved it in my backpack. ... read more

Rise and shine, its breakfast time. This morning we had rice with a sweet tasting meat on top served with half a boiled egg with a crispy shell around it and a side of chicken soup. Our clinical this morning was at the Elderly Club at the Sanmeung Temple. This was interesting as we had the opportunity to listen to everyone pray to Buddha for just about a half an hour. I was not able to understand them; however, I think it would be interesting to know what they are saying. I wonder if some of the Buddhists have the half hour long prayer memorized as it was read from a large pamphlet. The exercises we did with the elderly went extremely well. I would say that I got a heads up on how flexible ... read more

Once again on this bright and sunny morning, we ate breakfast. This time it was something new: rice with beef and sauce, a Chinese noodle dish, sticky rice filled with a custard and little coconut dessert bites. This morning we toured a facility similar to a nursing home which helped poor, homeless or disabled people. I thought this place was very clean and was supportive to the people it housed. Unlike the semiprivate rooms in the US, the sleeping arrangements here were a large room filled with beds. I thought this was different, yet it did not fully surprise me as the public hospital, NKP, had the same layout of patient beds. Also, I noticed that the elderly people there aged better, so to speak, compared to many American elders. For example, their feet had ... read more
