November 9th 2008

Having had our fill of the dryness of Hampi and Mysore we decided to get back on it and head down to Kerala. Cue ten hours on a horrendous night coach. Fearing the worst after the last few journeys i decided to err on the side of caution and double drop xanax before getting on the bus. In theory this was a great idea but either i misheard the time it would take to get there or the driver drove like a nutter to get us there early but i was still in full sleep mode when i literally fell off the bus at 6am. Incapable of hardly walking i let Catheirne take charge for once whilst i drooled in a corner accompanied by a rat the size of a small cat. Not pretty at all ... read more

So leaving Hampi seemed sad as we had made such good friends there but there are only so many rocks to fall off, or weed shakes to consume so we decided to hit the road again. Cue another horrific night coach to Bangalore on which the driver insisted on pumping out crap indian music very loud even though we were trying to sleep. This was probably to distract us from the fact that he was either a) completely pissed or b) never actually driven a bus in his life which would account for us rolling round the bus all night. I had packed the emergency bottle of rum in my backpack which was stowed in the hold so it was a sleepless night all round. The rest of the passengers were miserable fuckers so a party ... read more

So after checking out at 10am we had 13 hours to kill before catching our bus to Hampi, thirteen brutal hours spent sweating on the floor of the baggage room in our hotel whilst whatever i had eaten or drunk tried to leave my system any which way. Not pleasant at all, but we struggled to Ankola about 30k away to catch our bus at 11 only for it to turn up at 12 already full of passengers with a very irate driver who didnt seem to want to let us on at all. Catherine and i were lucky and managed to grab a couple of seats and proceeded to have the most uncomfortable 8 hour journey with a driver who didnt seem to care that he was going at breakneck speed on the wrong side ... read more

So we struggled out of our hotel in the morning determined that there would be no more taxis, we would be proper travellers and get the train down to Gokarna. I was completely ruined from the night before and struggled not to be sick on myself on the way to the. I say train station in the nicest possible way but as everything is in India, this was a shack with a train platform attached. We were then informed that the train was late/possible not coming and faced with the prospect of five to ten hours waiting for it or a cab for 2.5 hours we gave in and champagne backpacked all the way to Gokarna, one of the most uncomfortable trips of my life, made less so by one of my newly purchased Alprozolam or ... read more

So we have been having a great old time in Palolem, almost like a proper holiday really and have really enjoyed meeting tons of people. Catherine bonded with an indian who has obviously either watched loads of Eastenders or talked to loads of english backpackers as he spoke like a market stall holder. I thought he was a twat straight off but humoured Catherine only to be confirmed right when we had discovered he had added loads of beers and his dinner to our tab. Payment back was given when Catherine tried to change the music, cutting off all sound througfhout the bar and earning Sanjay a slapping from his boss. Since we never saw him again we think he may have been sacked. Our last memory of him was him trailing us down the beach ... read more

So here we are in lovely Palolem, and after a few days of quietness and serious sightseeing we were more than ready to cut loose again. ( which we managed too quite successfully). After a few hours looking around we finally got into our accomodation and i took a much need snooze as have had insommnia for a few days. We then went out and proceeded to get absolutely twatted with a bunch of guys from Birmingham and few Israelis. Since being in india i have met so many Israelis, most of whom are massive stoners and although nice, im not interested in being involved in any discussions about god and jews and the like. Most of them stop talking to me when i mentioned that i though Israli was the national language when apparently its ... read more

Well we finally made it out of Baga, but not before we were harrassed mercilessly on the beach, in the bar, in the street and some guy even hovered outside our hotel (we think he was exposing himself in the bushes). Generally we didnt do much there and couldnt face the prospect of going to teh seedy bars and just ended up staying in for the two nights we were there. Unfortunately i woke up to find i had been abised by mosquitos in the night and had 39 bites all over my body but in practically a full sleeve up my arm which swelled up in red welts. Not pretty. That was pretty much the last straw for us as we had been having a shit time in Baga. The beaches are dirty, the sea ... read more

Well here we are in Baga, unfortunately. We spent our last night in Arambol supposedly having a quiet meal as we were both hungover. We ate at a restaurant called The Rice Bowl overlooking the sea and all was going well until we met a crazy bloke called George and/or Will who was russian and believed he came from outer space. He was a prime example of someone who has been in india too long and smoked way too many drugs! Another giveaway was the fact that he was wearing a cannabis leaf tshirt, pants with Jamaica written across them and had a massive tattoo of Bob Marley across his chest. When talking to me about space travel his teeth fell out and he nonchalently put them back in before trying desperately to persuade us to ... read more

October 7th 2008

After a frantic two days in Mumbai, we have escaped to Goa and to the beach1 We have travelled north to Arambol which is about an hour away from central Goa. Arambol so far seems to have escaped the tourist trail and is a small resort full of ageing hippies and crustys (who are all lovely and friendly) . We have a room overlooking the beach which is clean and spacious and more importantly only coast us one pound eighty a night each. The only downside is the mosquito activity and the ratty looking squirrel thing that lives in the roof and rains down shit all over our room. Since leaving mumbai the price of everything has gone down and i am comfortably managing on my budget of a tenner a day. Goa is beautiful and ... read more

October 7th 2008

Well finally, my first blog entry! It has been a struggle to find a computer that actually works here so better late than never im afraid. So...... We set off on the 2nd at about 10pm for a fairly uneventful flight apart from me being upset with the curry dinner that blew my head off followed by a wierd fainting fit about halfway through the flight which i put down to too much celebrating leaving england and a cold. Virgin were mean spirited and wouldnt even let me faint in first class but instead just let me sit amongst all the half eaten curry tins down the back of the flight with an oxygen mask on (which was quite nice) with my feet up on a bin. Hardly relaxing, but they were all very nice, especially ... read more
