Too Too Long...... Sorry everyone for being slow on this travelblog thing. It is getting harder and harder every time. There is 2 months of information to catch up on, therefore I am going to do a fast blog with lots of pictures. When I left you all last night I was in Colombia. Natalie and I went to Cartagena to check out the town and a popular beach known as Playa Blanca. The city consists of 3 parts. The New Town is dirty and poor and that is where we stayed. The Old Town is surrounded by a old wall with cannons on top and has cobblestone style streets. This is where everyone goes to enjoy the beauty of the town. As as goodbye night, Natalie and I splurged a little bit (a splurge was ... read more

We arrived in Santa Rosa, Peru to finish off our time in Peru. It was not much of a town. Dirt roads, small huts, and dirty. Luckily, we only had to go through a quick customs line and we were off on a 3 minute boat ride into Leticia, Colombia. In this region 3 countries come together. To the west is Peru. Northeast is Colombia. Southeast is Brazil. From the water you can see all three. When we landed in Colombia, we knew instantly that we were in a different country. Unlike Peru, Colombia has money and it is apparent. The streets were paved and there were stores for companies such as Puma and Nike in buildings that looked as though they would last through an Earthquake (sorry to all those whos lives were lost in ... read more

I know its been too long, but there are reasons for no entries. Ive been busy and having fun. And when I wrote this entry before, a huge rainstorm in Santa Marta, Colombia flooded the streets and knocked out all of the power erasing pages of writing (I had been saving it as well, but when I got back online all was gone) Anyway, when I left you all last time I was on a journey to the jungle. That journey was long, but worth the wait. Natalie and I spent hours on buses and two days on a cargo boat before we reached Iquitos. On the way we visited large and small towns, toured the markets, and bought sunglasses, and even had a fashion show of our own on the bus. We went from the ... read more

Hellllllloooo! Well I just finished up my volunteering position at The Way Inn Lodge in Huaraz. It was an incredible month, but I am excited to get back on the road and do some traveling. During my month stay I worked mostly with Natalie and the Manager Pete (a kiwi (New Zealander)) along with two Peruvians. Rosa, the cleaning lady, and Ilario the cook. We all got along very well. Most of our days were spent waking up at about 7 am to enjoy the amazing mornings that the place had to offer. The mountains surrounding the lodge are indescribeable. They just tower over the area and they call your name every day to climb them. During my stay I only climbed 1 of the two mountains named Churupita, but it was to a height above ... read more

Hey All, I have not had much access to a computer recently. I am now in a beautiful mountainous region called Huaraz. From Cusco, I took a 20 hour bus ride with my friend Natalie (the aussie girl) to Lima where we stayed with Paola for a couple of days. We did not do too much exciting stuff, but we did go to a cool water fountain park the night we left. It was cool fountains with light shows to music and what not. (pictures to follow) Then she and I left on a 9 hour bus ride to Huaraz. Upon arrival I signed up for a 4 day trek in the Cordillera Blanca mountains called the Santa Cruz Trek. It was gorgeous and the pictures are amazing. Afterwards, I headed back into the mountains to ... read more

Hello Again! It is now a day after my birthday and the celebration continues tonight back in Cusco. Since we last spoke....or I spoke (wrote) and you read and maybe responded I have been having an amazing time. Cusco has proven to be the most exciting town that I have visited on my trip thus far. The people are nice, the street vendors are as crazy as people come, the views are incredible, and the night life never stops. Cusco is quite a touristy town, but that also means that there are plenty of backpackers here as well...many of which get stuck here for months at a time. I spent my first night in town at another hostal named Loki Backpackers which has seen major success at their various hostals in South America. It houses many ... read more

I am alive and well. As many of you probably heard, a very large earthquake hit Southern Peru and many hundreds of people were killed. Luckily, I left that area about 5 days before it hit and I never felt the earth shake. On a better note, I have been busy and having fun. I spent about 6 days in Arequipa because I ended up getting sick for a few days. It turned out to be okay though because on August 14/15 Arequipa has its biggest party of the year to celebrate its founding. The entire town parties quite hard and I did my best to contribute. A friend of Jeffs (and now a friend of mine) Maria Rosa took me to a concert where we danced the night away to Peruvian bands. Its a good ... read more

Well my last few blogs have now been deleted due to server problems with Travelblog. The past week and a half have been fun filled. I spent 3 days in the center of Lima mostly hanging out with a fun Canadian girl named Arielle and a Peruvian guy I met on the plane named Jose. Jose invited me to have breakfast and lunch my first morning (which I may have mentioned in my last blog entry which was deleted). I was amazed at how friendly the people are here. The rest of the days Arielle and I mostly just walked around the city, eating food at random places and seeing what Lima had to offer besides a consistent cloud cover. We found a fun park in the middle of the city where there was an abundant ... read more

I am now in Lima, Peru and I am as excited as excited people come. It was a long trip to get here. To save some money in Costa Rica, I took a direct bus from Santa Teresa to the San Jose Airport- 6 hour bus ride on Sunday July 29th- instead of going to a hostel for the night and then spending money on a cab. I arrived at the airport 13 hours before my flight and had the pleasure of trying to sleep on tile. You can only check in 3 hours before a flight, so a couple of hippie girls from San Francisco and I had a long night ahead of us hanging out in the front of the airport. They were even more dumb than me. They arrived at the airport 26 ... read more

:Sorry, we are too busy to connect your call at this time, please try again later. This is what I had to listen to over and over again for hours today from the Passport Agency. I am attempting to get my passport on time for my trip which begins in less than 2 weeks time. In addition to getting my passport, many other details need to be dealt with as well. For instance, writing this blog entry to learn how to use it efficiently while I am paying by the hour for internet service ($1 /hr might get expensive if I acciently wander into myfreepaysite.com for periods at a time) I also need to go buy a bunch of items to prepare myself for the trek. Clothes, shoes, locks, duct tape, etc. Anyway, I must ... read more
