We got into Miami by around 4, and as we had made it a day earlier then originally predicted we now had 3 different groups of friends in Miami that night; Margie and Chris (from San Diego and who came to Vegas with us) they were in Miami for one night before their cruise to the Bahamas, Olivia (my friend from The Hughenden Hotel in Sydney) who was flying to New York the next day after spending the semester at the Uni of Miami and then there were Gavin, Murray and Adam who we made friends with a couple of years ago at Jimmy's Beach who I had only met a few times but Laura and the girls still kept in touch with them. We organised to meet all of them out that night, so after ... read more

On the way to Savannah we stopped at St. Augustine for lunch. St. Augustine is the oldest settlement of the USA. It's a cute little town that is swamped with tourists! Then we moved on to Daytona Beach where we accidently booked a hotel on the main island and not on the beach so it was pretty far from all the excitement. When we first got to Daytona we went straight to the Daytona speedway but it was about to close so we didn't even get to see the track or anything. We went to the beach for dinner to a place called Mai Tai that had cocktails for $4 or pitchers of beer for $6! The place was packed with college kids who all seemed to know each other and be in massive groups so ... read more

18- We were originally going to drive to Savannah, Georgia over night this night to save money on accom and not miss out on any sightseeing, but we were already exhausted and had managed to see most of Nashville so we decided to book a cheap hotel ($40) in Atlanta as it was half way to Savannah so we could do laundry and catch up on sleep. That night we ordered room service and only left our room to collect our laundry. 19- After a sleep in and without breakfast we were on the road to Savannah. The place we stayed in Atlanta was 12 miles out of town so we didn't even get to see the city of Atlanta which was sad but at least we were semi refreshed and had clean clothes. We drove ... read more

After taking a few pics of Beale street in the day (def doesn't capture it) we drove to Nashville, Tennessee! After checking in at our hostel we ventured into town for a late lunch. They have country music playing from random boxes in the streets and there is a surprising amount of corporate offices/ people. We went to the 'Country Music Hall of Fame and Museum' and did yet another interesting audio tour. On the way home we found a white castle which was heaps exciting (from the movie- harold and Kumar Go to white castle). We then crashed for a couple of hours due to exhaustion. For our late dinner we went to Broadway where all the 'honky Tonkin'' happens! All the bars down this strip are older/ dingy but all playing live country music and ... read more

After breki we went on a tour around Graceland. They have Elvis' house and land (Graceland) on one side of the road and then a stretch of land on the other side of the road which is where they run all the tours from and have built all different museums, and restaurants dedicated to Elvis. They run an audio tour through his house and grounds including his grave. It was really interesting but a bit sad again! Some of the rooms in his house are decorated really funky, but there was a few really tacky things as well.We then went to Sun Studios 'where Rock and Roll began' and went on a tour. The guide was so excited and enthusiastic and you could just tell he loved music and all the history that is involved in ... read more

Got up early to pick up our rental car for our week long road trip around the South. Still am baffled by how many shredded tyres are on the road. On the way to New Orleans we had it all flying back at us and had to weave around a huge piece of it while going 70 miles an hour. We stopped in at Jackson for lunch at a little restaurant in the funky hondren district. Laura and I both got traditional Cajun meals. Mine was just red beans with rice and Laura's was a crawfish (small lobster) poboy (huge sub sandwich). Jackson is pretty ugly in the city but there is beautiful houses out in the suburbs. We made it to Memphis in time to go to the Lorraine Motel where Martin Luther King Jr ... read more

We got picked up from our hotel and taken to our swamp tour location! The tour was sooo cool! We saw sooo many 'gators who our tour fed marshmallows too and made them jump and snap at him, and he even pulled out a baby one called Elvis for us to hold! After the tour we walked around the river and through the French quarter. It is sooo cute! So much going on, people everywhere, bands playing jazz on corners, little stalls selling hand grenades (a local very alcoholic frozen drink) and so much more! Laura got her palms read and We didnt have dinner till 9:30 at a little sushi place and pink berry for dessert (like cold rock but with frozen yoghurt).... read more

I got up before Laura for probably only the third time this trip (she has the alarm!) got ready and started cutting up my pink and orange tie dye dress to make it into a shirt! We caught the bus to the festival, which took forever to come and then forever to get there. The festival was soooo good! So many cool stalls and art works and soo many tents playing so much different music! We got to spend time in the gospel, blues and jazz tents before we saw the Eagles. It was ridiculously packed, they were on the biggest stage with a massive field and we couldn't even get in to see the stage. The eagles played for two hours so it wasnt until people had left that we could actually move up and ... read more

We were awoken by our alarms at 6am to head to the air port to pick up our rental car for our 8 hour drive to New Orleans! I was very very nervous to drive but once I got started I was fine (it helped that it was pretty much one straight road to New Orleans). The boys had told us that we would have to be careful and that we would go through the 'ghetto' and that once we got into Louisiana it was gross but it must have been there Texas pride talking because the drive through Louisiana was so pretty! The drive was also good because we got to pass Houston and Baton Rouge which were two places we wanted to go to but had no time! I was sad leaving Texas because it ... read more
