I'm Becky, I'm 18 and am travelling in my gap year before going to university in September. I've always wanted to travel and it now seems so surreal that it is finally happening. I'm leaving on Thursday 8th March and am going to *drum roll* South Africa, Australia, New Zealand, Peru, America, Canada and then home. I'm going for 6 months in total and decided to make this blog instead of sending loads of those impersonal chain emails to everyone I know.

It is over. I've left Huaraz. I really didn't think it would be that traumatic but it was. Man I miss The Lodge and everyone already, just thinking about makes me get tears in my eyes. My whole experience here has just been amazing, I'm so thankful to have got the oppurtunity to live in Peru and build a trout farm. Now who can say they have done that? My last days at The Lodge were just brilliant, in a way it would have been way easier if I was bored and wasn't having a good time. But not so. So on Friday night we all went down for the party in Huaraz. First we went out to supper with Stella Maris (our spanish teachers daughter) and we went to a returaunt called El Horno. ... read more

EDIT / photos to come soon!!! I´m leaving Huaraz tomorrow. This is so strange, time here has gone by so quickly. I´m really going to miss this place. It has a great community spirit and there are soem real characters here. Oh well, lets get onto my week. Sunday we all went horse riding in the cordillera negra. It was me Laura, Tom, Jess and a guest called Brian who we made friends with. We rode all the way up a mountain and the view was spectacular. My horse wasn´t very well behaved and kept biting Laura´s horse. His name was Tomotei. I think he was just a bit gender confused really. We went for a walk along the top of the mountain and had a lunch. I had the smallest banana I have ever seen. ... read more

Well what an interesting week. After being saddened by Minstrels death, we had a BBQ party on Saturday in honour of Tristans birthday. Me and the globals (as we are now called) bought a cake under the pretense of Tristans birthday but really we just wanted to eat a big cake. Stephanie came back to Huaraz. She was in the group before us doing the programme, and she decided to come back for a few days before she went home. So we all piled in a taxi (Me Tom Lauara Jess Stephanie Liz and Ben - it was a tight squeeze!) and went up. Unfortunately when we got up there there was more bad news. There were blood stainted towels and bowls of bloody water everywhere. Blade was hit by a combi (a minivan) and ... read more

Seriously. Minstrel was murdered. I am so sad, he was such a lovely dog. When I was sick he was by my side the whole time and put his head on my knee. It was because he was rascist. He hated all peruvians and would bark and growl at any that passed by, but any gringos he would love them. So some peruvian killed him. I think its because he was abused by some peruvians. Miss you Minstrel, rest in peace. Anyway, nothing much happening really. Still building walls in the trucha farm, we have some more peruvian helpers now. So it is going much faster. I´m leaving the country in 3 weeks so am seriously plannign what I want to do. Luara is sick with giardia now, and the other two are suspected to ... read more

Yay! I get some kick ass antibiotics and I feel better now! I´m so happy I´ve been feeling like shit for so long I almost forgot how nice it was to feel well. Well after staying in Huaraz Friday night and being generally antisocial as I still felt bad, we went up for the BBQ on Saturday. In the morning me and Audrey went out and did some shopping. She is a lovely person and we had some great convos. Due to my delapitating illness i couldnt eat any fruit veggies cheese milk or yoghurt as they would make me feel bad. So I had some bacon for brekkie which was great. Basically every saturday now there is a BBQ at the Lodge and the first one was really fun. We had burgers and chorizo ... read more

The gringo weight loss diet. 1) Go to altitude, so you feel naseuous and lose all apetite for about a week. 2) Get food poisoning so any food you do eat just gets puked right back up again. Lose appetite again. 3) Get Giardia, so little parasite eat all your food for you. And voila, the gringo weight loss diet! Yes thats right, I have giardia which is a waterbourne parasite. I´m relieved I finally have an explanation of why I´ve been feeling so crap the past few weeks. It basically stops you digesting food whihc is why I´ve felt so weak. I had to take another two days off work on Thursday and Friday. Basically I feel like shit, no energy, upset stomach, stomach cramps the works. I´m really glad now that I know ... read more

Ok, I did it. I ate guinea pig. I felt horrible... but it was kinda tasty. I don´t think I could manage a whole one though, they still ahve thier head, its just too creepy. As i bit into it a french woman was staring at me horrified. Good Times. Anyway nout much happend in Huaraz, we all watched a movie and squished into a taxi on Sunday. God I love the Lodge, it is just so beautiful and we have such a great group of people here. No guests yet, just volunteers who stay for free and do work for the lodge. Right now the work is still just digging the trucha farm. Hahah listen to me, I´ve started speaking spanglish! Its hard work but satisfying. I´ll get some htos of it, we have ... read more

Nooo, not really I haven´t eating guinea... yet. Although I forgot to twll you about the meal I had with my spanish family, even though I put up photos. The food cooked underground is pachamanca and it was ver exciting. it was like opening up presents, but instead of presents it was food. Tasty food. Which in itself is a very good present. Panchitas daughter had fried cuy which is guinea pig. It was pretty shocking really, the whole thing is just deep fried. Its toes are crispy and it still has its teeth. It made me sad, but I still got a photo of it, which you can see here. Anyway we left our families on Sunday, the flowers and wine went down well and she told us that if we ever need a ... read more

Well its been a while since I have written in the blog, I´m sorry. But i am writing in it now and am gonna put up loads of photos. Rubens daughter took us out for a meal on Saturday night and Jess and Lauara had a thing called anticuchos which is just chopped up heart. I couldn´t eat it so I had chicken. Then we went to a club and danced and had fun. Pretty uneventful night really. And we carried on our lessons which were OK, I´ve learnt quite a bit of spanish. Ruben worked us so hard, giving us like 80 sentences to do, and when we told Jaime about it and he was outraged so told us he would help us and he did. For our last homeworkwe had to write a ... read more
