Another good start to the day with sunshine and blue skies (I think about 22 degrees celcius). We get into in the city centre and board the Buenos Aires bus tour! With headsets provided we hook up to the English tab and view our map. As we start moving through the city we notice we appear to be on the wrong side of the bus to take photos of the main sites - oops! Quickly scrabbling acoss we settle down and enjoy the journey. A few of the pictures are from the bus journey itself however the main ones are from when we actually got off at a registered stop and wandered about ourselves. The bus takes a total of 2.5 hours to do a complete circuit but with 12 different stops Brim and decide to ... read more

First morning in Buenos Aires. The hostel was actually fairly quiet and I think the staff a little surprised to see people up for breakfast!! Dried bread and croissants later headed on the metro to San Telmo area of Buenos Aires where we had been reliably informed by Mia and Kate in Brasil there was a great Sunday market. San Telmo is not one of the safer places in Buenos Aires however we stuck to the market area and there were no issues. Bargain Hunt and Flog It fans may have been in their element however alot of the stalls were simply selling junk and no amount of South American charm would see us part with our cash! In the middle of the market however there was a small band and a couple of Tango dancers. ... read more

I already updated you on the long bus journey from Puerto Iguazu to Buenos Aires (BA) so I will not bore you (Fuzzy take note) with the details again! Anyway, arrived in BA and took a taxi to our hostel on Avenida Corrintes. The taxi man let us out and we tried to search for the entrance! Entrance to Augur Hostel found we are buzzed into the building. As we walk up the flight of steps to reception I noticed a rather recognisable image on one of the doors-see picture! Anyhow, ignoring that, we get into the hostel and our dorm room which was quite big and only Brim and I had to share it :) Decided to take a walk into the city centre to the tourist information. 40 minutes later we get there and ... read more

Hi All, Just a quick update on recent news and travels. Hope to add more pictures and details on Puerto Iguazu in the next days but until then I wanted to bore you all with our bus journey from Puerto to Buenos Aires - where I am now typing this update. So, we catch the bus from Puerto as scheduled at 7.15 with Via Barriloche. The bus was pretty good and the seats, blankets and pillows all a happy welcome. Brim and I settle ourselves down quite comfortably when Argentinan police with dog board the coach. OK no issues we have our passports to hand and obligingly hand them over to the guard. He asks a few questions and then moves on down the bus. 5 minutes later another guard appears - asks to see our ... read more

Arrived at Puerto Canoas hostel thanks to Carlos ;) Hostel was very brightly painted with flowers and bird food holders attracting a number of Humming Birds just outside the door to our room with en suite!! The luxury of budget travelling cannot be overestimated ;=) We dropped off our bags had a quick look around the hostel, no communal bar and everyone seeming to keep to themselves so we walked into the town centre which was just a 5 minute from the hostel. The town was like a ghost town. Lots of the shops were closed and no one was around! However, we located a bank and then the supermarket and worked out it was just 55 pence for a large bottle of beer! The rest of that afternoon and the next day we did not ... read more

OK, so I know this update is well over a week due however the computer at the hostel in Buenos Aires was not working so I have not been able to upload any photos and I did not want to keep sending just typed blogs. Anyhow, I will now proceed to try and catch up on on the last 7 days or so!!! So, having spent the morning at the hostel in Foz De Iguazu it was time to leave and cross the border into Puerto Iguazu, Argentina. Carlos kindly agreed to drive us across the border control, our first overland and see us safely to the otherside! OK, so we say goodbye to Hostel Natura and reach the border crossing. Carlos assures us we do not need our bags and simply to bring our passports! ... read more

Arrived at the main coach station in Foz De Iguazu. Managed to find platforms for local buses but not entirely sure of when next bus would arrive and where to get off! Anyway, convinced Brim we didn't need a taxi and we could do it, so we boarded a bus into town. Brim had to help me with my bag over the turnstile as I got a tad stuck ! At the local bus station we both looked at each other as there were a number of platforms and again no clear signs. We spotted the tourist information and thankfully the assistant spoke sufficient English to inform us we needed to get a bus towards the airport but to get off at Remanso Grande and then take a free bus called Alimentandor to the hostel! We ... read more

On the road again.....having been woken up early in our dormroom because another traveller had been locked out of his room, Brim and I got up and walked to the bus station in Paraty for our bus to Sao Paulo. After the obligatory stickers on bag procedure we boarded the coach and located our seats. The bus was pretty nice and again loads of leg room :) 6 hours seemed to fly by particularly because of the Richard Gere offering on the TV screen and headsets to listen to various radio stations. One of which was playing English music! Outside the window the Brasilian countryside whisked past us and we arrived in Sao Paulo. The skyline even from the bus was impressive and daunting. At the bus station we saw signs for platforms 89, 90 etc! ... read more

When I last wrote we had made it to the bus station in Rio. Next stage was to purchase tickets for Paraty. After a bit of searching we found the correct operator and asked if they spoke English. No, so Brim, using the worst rough guide phrase book in the history of phrase books managed to ask for 2 tickets. With a bit of pointing at the computer (computer said yes!) the tickets were purchased. With about 10/15 minutes to spare we loaded our bags (with appropriate baggage stickers attached) onto the coach and settled down. A few minutes later having sat down we were asked to move - apparently we had seat numbers! The coach, was actually not bad and there was considerable more room than on the BA flight. 4.5 hours past rainforest covered ... read more

Ola :) Sorry for the delay in really getting started with this blog but Brim and I have been having too much time relaxing and meeting people to write about it! Before I start I just had a few administrative matters I wanted to set out: 1.I am not sure what people are hoping or expecting to read over the next weeks but I hope you enjoy my updates and the pictures when I am able to upload them; 2.Apologies for past, present and future grammar and spelling errors. I will do my best to minimise these but please bear with me! 3.Last but not least, thanks to Brim for (a) suggesting I down tools and join her for the South American leg of her year long adventure and (b) for putting up with Deirdre :) ... read more
