Kekaha Beach
I made it to Kauai a few days ago. Spent much of Thurday settling in. Had to go to the storeroom and get the bike running. Started up with no problems. Took it for a ride to recharge the battery and had breakfast at the Tip Top. Not much changes there. Jackassed all my stuff back and forth to the condo in Poipu. Only a few yards from the beach. Not much of a room but thats fine. Bought the rental car back, took a cab to Puhi, got on the bike and cruised home. I thought about that only a few days before I was in the Bahamas. Or: (sing it)" It's Better in the Bahamas". In preparation for my future around the world flight I thought; 'Start small Tom; a nice easy trip to the Bahamas'. Learn how to fly 'international'. Apparantly US Customs doesn't care if you leave America. Flying out of the US turned out to be very easy. Get in your plane and go. No flight plan. no clearance. Josian and I had our passports, money, full tanks and two safety yellow life jackets. Beautiful day. No problem getiing to and finding Marsh Habour(MYAM) airport. About an hour and twenty minutes. Huh? The runway (27) looks really nice but as we got to about 200 feet I noticed an X next to the runway numbers. You can't land on those. So I did a nifty little 'jog' to the ... read more
FPR performance
Thanks to Craig for the headline.Spent the previous night and day in Richmond. Thanks to Sherri and Rick. Great flight down here. Left Richmond at 1630. Arrived in Delray at 2145 local. Beats driving and some beautiful views out the window. My plans are obviously up in the air. Thinking of going to the Bahamas. I have to see if I have my Radio Station License. Never done it before. It's about a 1 hour flight to Marsh Harbour. Anyone out there know about it? So today it's back to the airport and perhaps Fort Pierce to find out about 'international flying'. Nice Day
Made it to Pomeroy, Ohio (outside Athens) to the Fur Peace Guitar Camp. Great Flight to Columbus. 3:05. Beautiful Weather. Went to Spruce Steet Studios in Columbus and met up with Bill Kirchen. Drove down toward pomeroy and stayed overnight in Logan. Nothing much doing there. Reached Fur Peace a little after 10 AM. The orientation and lunch. A few hours of class. Dinner. A couple of more hours of class. I go anywhere from thinking I am not too bad at guitar to thinking I absolutely suck. Such is life. Fun and I suppose I am learning a bit. They have these pretty small cabins to stay in. But i know I snore pretty loud sometimes so I am staying in a teepee. It's actually very comfortable. Heading out west again in my Bellanca Super Viking........ Here the itinerary: 1. Depart FRG for Ohio 10.9 -10.13 for the Fur Peace guitar camp. Instructor: Bill Kirchen and You Tube Link 2. Albuquerque and points west - 10.14 - 10.22 . I am shooting for Moab, UT. and Leadville, CO. (highest airport in the US). Just added Henderson, NV. Free Hoover (inside the damn dam) Dam tour. Can't miss that. I need to get hold of Joe and Olga, Scott and Ricki. 3. Hawaii(Kauai) 10.22 - 11.8 via American Airlines. There has been some questions about taking N28179. No. No long range tanks. 4. Albuquerque to Home perhaps via Cape Hatteras. 11.8 - 11.11? I suppose I am on my way back. Leaving Bonners Ferry in a few minutes heading towards Glacier Natioanl Park in Montana. Quiet night here. Had a nice breakfast at the 3-Mile Corner Cafe.
