Sad... Wet...
Sad... Wet...
It's ok Ani now we can buy new crappy touristy umbrellas!
We felt like we didn't really get to see much of London, even though we were there for 5 days. Liz took Ani and Ian on a walking tour but in the three years since she's lived in London she's obviously lost her sense of distance between landmarks because when we finally made it to the Globe Theater (like 5 hours after we started) everyone was exhausted. However, we did manage to see all the major sights in just one day: Oxford Circus, Picadilly Circus, Leicester Square, Trafalgar Square, Buckingham Palace, Westminister Abbey, Big Ben and the Houses of Parliament, Tower [View Full Entry]

They put lights on EVERY SINGLE BRANCH!!!
Armed with our blondish hair, popular swedish names, (and superhuman powers of course), we took scary flight number two to Gothenburg, Sweden. Thanks to Liz's friends Tess, Ryan, and baby Liam we had familiar faces to meet us as the airport, house us, feed us, provide us with clean laundry and showers (yay!), show us around, and above all provide us with some excellent company! Tess made us American pancakes and we practiced our swedish as we explored the older part of Gothenburg. Who knew that Gothenburg is actually pronounced (ok, are you ready for this all you American kids?) YO-TE-BURY. [View Full Entry]

Europe » Netherlands » North Holland » Amsterdam
Windmills
Windmills
We LOVED the actually authentic windmills in the not-so-authentic town of Zanse Schanse!
We enjoyed Madrid (for the most part), but were excited to move on to Amsterdam, after all, we love the Dutch! Our first night we went out on a walk in search of the famous red light district (first things first of course), and enjoyed some Heineken and some delicious ollieballen. Our evening in the hostel was spent with a gentleman who liked to sleep in speedos...let's just say we saw more than our fair share of skin that evening! After visiting the Anne Frank house and the blue delft shop, we found a cafe where we ate a dutch pancake [View Full Entry]

In front of the Belgian bar where they serve over 2000 different beers! With our new friend who stole Maria's scarf out of the bathroom.
We were supposed to spend two nights in Brussels but Liz had some bank trouble and we weren't able to leave until Thursday afternoon. The first thing we had to do was figure out how to play the Amsterdam train station game. We stood in several lines and walked around confused before finally figuring it out. We learned that you have to go to a special kiosk, type in your destination and take a number and then depending on whether it's a domestic trip or an international one, wait in two separate areas with several hundred other people crowded around a [View Full Entry]

Mas Cervezas!
Mas Cervezas!
We found a pub that brews there own "100% natural" beer. We also got free shots of something licorice-y maybe Sambuca or Pernot.
Hola from Madrid! For those of you who haven't heard the back story you should know we arrived in Spain with some trepidation. When Liz's parents arrived about a week ago all hell broke loose. First the ariline lost Ann's luggage, then on the way to the hotel she was robbed on the train and lost everything, passport, money, identification, phone, camera etc. Then they went to see the apartment they had rented for everyone to stay in and it was in a dodgy neighborhood and roach infested. By the time we arrived in Europe the motto of the trip was [View Full Entry]

Paris Drizzling
Paris Drizzling
Actually it was more of a downpour when we bought the umbrellas... it stopped immediately after we had them.
We arrived in Madrid today but because of a lack of internet access we're going to have to post our Paris blog from here. We LOVED Paris. When we first arrived we had some communication problems with Paulhita, the Sri Lankan man my parents had arranged to pick us up from the airport due to the transportation strike throughout the city. After a few hours, and a nauseating van ride, we arrived in Paris. The hotel we stayed at with Liz's mom was right down the street from our friend Tommy's apartment. Tommy is living in Paris on an Inter-European exchange [View Full Entry]
