Sad... Wet...
It's ok Ani now we can buy new crappy touristy umbrellas! We felt like we didn't really get to see much of London, even though we were there for 5 days. Liz took Ani and Ian on a walking tour but in the three years since she's lived in London she's obviously lost her sense of distance between landmarks because when we finally made it to the Globe Theater (like 5 hours after we started) everyone was exhausted. However, we did manage to see all the major sights in just one day: Oxford Circus, Picadilly Circus, Leicester Square, Trafalgar Square, Buckingham Palace, Westminister Abbey, Big Ben and the Houses of Parliament, Tower Bridge, Shakespear's Globe Theater and we passed by the Tate Modern Art Museum, the Millenium Bridge and St. Paul's Cathedral. After an unexpected torrential downpour complete with gusting winds, Ani sadly had to say goodbye to her Paris umbrella and continue on a little soggier than she would have liked. After all that walking we decided to walk a little more and went souvenir shopping in at Camden Market in North London.
On the first night we had ridiculously priced but absolutely delicious Italian food at a restaurant in West London called Strada and we went to the Ten
Tower Bridge
Look happy cousin... You're in London Baby! Bells Bar where Jack the Ripper stalked his victims. The second night Ian had to figure out how to get to the airport early in the morning so Liz and Ani went on a quest to find pizza and beer and we had a little party in our room at the hostel with our Canadian roommate who was returning home after traveling for several months. The next day we said goodbye to Ian bright and early at 4:00 am and after catching a few more hours of sleep made our way to East London to meet our friend Shane who generously offered us the floor in his living room to sleep on. The best part was that he forgot to tell his roommates we were coming... SURPRISE!
We went to see our buddy Jim Bianco play a show in Camden, and the next night we went to a blues club with Shane and his friends in, yep you guessed it... Camden! On our last night in London we went to the Joe Purdy show (not in Camden). In between our fabulous concerts we went to Harrod's to look at things we can't afford and rode the Egyptian escalator all
Delicious!!!
We were such trendsetters, everyone started ordering the same one after they saw our tasty treat! the way to the top and finished it off with AMAZING gelato and Espresso in the famous food halls. We even had a singing waiter... well actually he just sang for us... he was waaaay to happy to be at work that day. We also had a fabulous tea party at Kensington Palace, we had tiny cucumber sandwiches and scones with clotted cream (yes clotted cream is exactly what you're probably picturing and it's FANTASTIC!) and orange cake. After our tea we took a walk around the gardens and played with the swans... I'm just kidding... Swans are mean you NEVER play with swans.
Our last UK adventure involved a B&B in Essex. We decided to stay there because we had to be at the airport very early in the morning and all the airport hotels were booked. The B&B said they were just a few minutes from the airport so it seemed like a good idea. It turned out to be about 25 minutes from the airport for a normal driver and about 12 minutes for our crazy cab driver. He insisted on driving 60 miles an hour in the rain on a tiny country road while passing
All Hail Elizabeth
I could TOTALLY be a royal! other cars around blind corners... not to mention the added terror of seeing cars come at you on the wrong side of the road... damn British. When we finally arrived, shaken but in one piece, the owner of the place we had booked informed us that he had double booked the room and he was sending us across the street to his friend's place. At first we were not too happy but it turned out to be an even nicer Bed and Breakfast. We had the cutest room ever, it was fabulously light and airy. We had two big comfy beds, bathrobes, tea and cookies, a flat screen T.V. and an old huge claw footed bath tub. All of which we took full advantage of when we got back from having real fish and chips at the cozy pub around the corner. The night was short lived however, as we had to be at the airport at 5 am. The owner of the B&B drove us back to the airport with a Scottish couple and the three of them had a lovely conversation... none of which we could understand but we laughed along anyway. And just like that we were
Fish and Chips
We love the George Pub and the George B&B! off to Sweden.
