Day 46: Monday, January 11, 2010. Budapest, Hungary. I headed out of the hotel and made my way over to Pest to find the tourism office and get a Budapest Pass. The bus stop was around the corner from the hotel and I only had to wait a couple of minutes before the bus I needed showed up. I hop on (had bought the ticket at the hotel) and take a seat at the front so that I can stare at each bus stop and wonder if it's my stop. We head down the hill (a windy path around the stone walls- gorgeous) and go thru a tunnel that leads us to the Chain Bridge. This tunnel made me laugh because of the end you saw up ahead. It's a typical long tunnel, but there is ... read more

Day 45: Monday, January 10, 2010. Budapest, Hungary. Today I crashed. I went out and grabbed some food, but other than that I lounged around and read and watched TV. It was good. However, I know you all love listening to me ramble so I've put together something for for you to read. I think at one point I figured out I was going to be "on the road" for 173 days. Now, don't you want to know- what would Amanda pack for 6 months on the road? Enquiring minds are about to be rewarded! MEDICAL & BATH STUFF: * 1 RX to prevent malaria in Egypt * 1 RX to prevent malaria in Vietnam * 1 RX to treat "traveler's diarrhea" (lovely, no?) * "Cera Lyte" powder to mix with water to prevent dehydration from ... read more

Day 44: Saturday, January 9th, 2010. Budapest, Hungary. Yea! Today I get to see Kinga! Kinga was a foreign exchange student at my high school in Shortsville, NY. HAHAHA! I have to interrupt this blog because when I went to get the link from Wikipedia from Shortsville I did some reading and I am very amused, Van Minos clan, to see you listed on this page! :) I thought they had people checking the facts on Wikipedia- hehehe. Okay, back to myself and Kinga: We lost touch with each other but, thru the power of Facebook, found each other once more. She and her boyfriend, Tibi, have planned a wonderful day for me and they swing by the hotel late morning to pick me up. It's so good to see her again! And Tibi seems wonderful ... read more

Day 43: Friday, January 8th, 2010. Pressath, Germany to Cologne, Germany to Budapest, Hungary. Egészségedre (aggie-she-god-ra) means "To your health!" Szya (ci-ya) means "hello" and "goodbye" Boldog Születésnapot (bulldog sully-nap-pot) means "Happy Birthday" Köszönöm (cos-sa-gnome) means "Thank you" There ya go, now you know all the Hungarian I know! So my plane leaves Munich around 11am (again, I'm writing this many days later so I don't really remember) and Dusty and I leave the house around 6am. Everyone in the area is in a tizzy about a snow storm that's supposed to come in and already the school has said they'll only have a half day and release the kids at Noon. So, should be a fun car ride to and fro for Dusty! I can't really say much about the car ride because, bei... read more

Days 38 - 42: Sunday, January 3rd thru Thursday, January 7th, 2010: Pressath, Germany I'm smooshing (it's a word computer, stop telling me I spelled it wrong!) these 5 days together for a couple of reasons. #1 Blissfully, they were a calm 5 days and I didn't take that many pictures until the last day, Thursday and #2 (hehe, "who does #2 work for?") I'm having a hard time remembering what we did do as it is now 1/19/10 and I'm finally writing this. SUNDAY 1/3/10 So, yes, Saturday night was fun and had a good sleep. Woke up Sunday and I was worried that they were one of those families that got up, got dressed, and had breakfast then tackled the day. No, thank God, they're normal and it was an easy going "whenever, whatever" ... read more

Day 37: Saturday, January 2nd, 2010. Prague, Czech Republic to Nuremberg, Germany then to Pressath, Germany ("OMG, just write it already!" That's what I'm saying to myself as I try to get back on track with this blog. So, 16 days later, herrrrrrrrre's Pressath, Germany!) I say goodbye to Susan at 4:20am and head upstairs to the lobby. I settle the bill and the taxi picks me up at 4:30 and I'm at the train station by 4:45am. My train leaves at 5am so I stare at the departure board and find my train number. Next to it is a bunch of information in Czech, and various numbers scattered throughout. I can't figure out what platform is the one I need. I go to 3 different people asking them if they speak English and if they ... read more

Day 36: Friday, January 1st, 2010. REVISED! Prague, Czech Republic We had scheduled another tour today, one that would go to Kutna Hora. However, after talking with Emma the tour guide the other day (along with a couple of other people on the tour who had done Kutna Hora), we cancelled. They all said it was a giant waste of time, even Emma who is from the Czech Republic and is a History major at the George University. So, between that warning and the fact that I'm still not feeling that great, I vote not to go and Susan would rather wander around Prague anyway. I wander with her for a bit and we stop at a cute cafe where i can get some Internet while we load up on tea and coffee. Today is spent ... read more

Day 35: Thursday, December 31st, 2009 Prague, Czech Republic Not really sure what we did today (still a little late on writing this log.) I did walk from the hotel to the Prague Train Station to buy a ticket to Nuremberg, Germany on 1/2/10. The walk wasn't that long, maybe 15 minutes, but it took me thru a part of Prague that I had no desire to see, I'll be booking a taxi to get to it, that's for sure. Plus, part of the walk was spent in a feverish sweat, so that added to the fun. Also, today was the day I was freaking out over the hotel not having Internet so I found a Internet Cafe and got my fix for a few hours while Susan explored on her own. I was having SERIOUS ... read more

Day 34: Wednesday, December 30th, 2009 Prague, Czech Republic Today we have a walking tour and canal cruise booked thru a local tour group. Also today, my cold that I've been fighting since Vienna (the 18th of December for those of you keeping score) has moved from a sore throat to a nice, lovely, phlegmy cough. I feel like crap once more. On a fun note, our neighbors at the botel decided to feed the ducks and swans from their window so we got to see nature up close and personal. We head over to Old Town Square where we meet up with our tour guide, Emma. We arrive just before 10am so we're able to see the Astronomical Clock in action. We then follow thru the square, up to the Jewish Quarter and over to ... read more

Day 33: Tuesday, December 29th, 2009 Paris, France to Prague, Czech Republic Four hours later, we get the wake up call. We head downstairs, settle up the bill, and walk around the corner to the shuttle pick up. The bus shows up a couple of minutes later and even though our plane (Smart Wings airline) leaves from Terminal 3, the shuttle only drops off at Terminal 1 and 2 so we'll have to get off at Terminal 1 and take an airport shuttle to 3. About 45 minutes later, we are dropped off at Terminal 1. We head inside, ask someone where we can get the shuttle, and he points to outside and a sign that indicates we should head that way to the Terminal 3 shuttle. So, we head back outside where it is raining ... read more
