Day 22: Friday, December 18th, 2009 Munich, Germany to Vienna, Austria On our way to Vienna, we stopped at the concentration camp, Mauthausen. It's not really a place where one takes pictures, and I felt wrong taking the five pictures I did take, so I'll only be posting the one picture of the outside. Please go to the above link and read about Mauthausen. I don't even feel like talking about it. We get to Vienna and our hotel (the "Austria Trend Event Hotel Pyramid") is nice! Yea! It's spacious and warm and the comforters aren't scary. Except for Lauren & Teryn, everyone else has booked the Mozart concert and dinner excursion so they all leave for that (I had booked that excursion but then can... read more

Day 21: Thursday, December 17th, 2009 Venice, Italy to Munich, Germany If I remember correctly (ha ha), this was a long, very scenic, driving day. According to the pictures, the only excitement was that I took a picture of Luna sleeping (and then nuked the picture because it was horrifically unflattering and I'm a nice person... sometimes). For some reason, our gang decided we needed to take a picture of the others nodding off on the bus. I liked my shot of Kent sleeping as we went by castles on the first day. I think my mug shot is one of the worse, I had my mouth wide open- there was probably drool involved. If someone sends me the pic, I might post it, we'll see. I do recall that we didn't get into Munich until ... read more

Day 20: Wednesday, December 16th, 2009 Venice, Italy Yeah, writing this 12 days later so I'm going to be just going off of what pictures I took. So, Venice, riiiiight. Our hotel was back on the mainland so we had to take a taxi boat to the main island of Venice. Sadly, a couple of years ago, the people of Venice held a funeral for Venice because most people live on the mainland now and commute to the island (if they go there are at all.) So, they feel that their city has died. So, we take a boat over to their dead city. I dunno, I liked it, but I don't know what it was like before. Dave takes us on a very quick walk, past a horse statue whose picture I can find online ... read more

Day 19: Tuesday, December 15th, 2009 Rome, Italy to Venice, Italy We leave Rome and head over to Venice. Along the way, we stop at a small resort town on Lake Garda, Sirmione. During the summer time, is impossible to get around in due to all the tourists but it was off season and it was deserted. The main attraction for me, was the castle!!! Beautiful, and the perfect spot for the next P.O.N. I climbed around in there while everyone else explored the town. We only had about 40 minutes until we had to be back on the bus, so it was a short trip but worth it. I can't find the name of the town nor castle on Google, so I'll have to post that info later- sorry folks! We get into Venice and ... read more

Day 18: Monday, December 14th, 2009 Rome, Italy We start off our day early by leaving the hotel at 7:15am to get to Vatican City. Regardless of the day, there is always a line (and an impossible one on Sunday's so we're lucky it's Monday). We are to hop on a public bus, get off at metro station and take two different metro lines to get there. However, the first city bus pulls up and a few people jump on, including Kent & Ashton. There is no room for the rest of us so we try to remember what they were last wearing as the bus pulls away. They were good travel buddies, it's sad to think we may never meet again. The next bus pulls up and we pack on like sardines, all of us ... read more

Day 17: Saturday, December 13th, 2009 Florence, Italy to Rome, Italy. Ah, Rome. Sweet, sweet, Rome. What can I say about it? No, seriously, what can I say? Why did I let my blog updates get so far behind?! All the cities are blurring into one... Plus, as I re-read some of my entries, yes, I have a problem with skipping between past/present tense and my punctuation sucks. Deal with it :) Or offer to edit it for me! So, I don't see any pictures that show the drive from Florence to Rome, so I'm guessing nothing unusual happened. We got into Rome and the bus dropped us off in the Piazza del Popolo and Dave led us on a 1-2 hour walk of Rome. I really wish this happened with each city because it gave ... read more

Day 16: Friday, December 12th, 2009 Florence, Italy. First up this morning is a bus trip to the top of a hill overlooking Florence where a professional photographer will take a big group picture. I've opted out of purchasing said picture, I have plenty. The view from up there was beautiful and the weather was great! (Something I shake my head at as I type this in arctic Vienna). The gang try to convince me to continue taking pictures of butt cracks with my thumb (there was a replica of David on the hill) but I gallantly refused. I told them i didn't want to be "that American." Santa was enough. Then it was back on the bus and into Florence where we stopped by "Leonardo's", a leather workshop/store. Day 15: Thursday, December 11th, 2009 Nice, France to Florence, Italy. Today we bid adieu (had to spell check that) to France and head to Italy, specifically, Florence. Right outside of Nice we stop for a photo op and then at Fragonard Perfumery. They had a display case in the entrance of different perfumes from around the world with a section dedicated to Rochester, NY- awww, home. We did a quick factory tour where we saw a guy making soaps in the shape of ducks and then ushered into the store. I wasn't planning on buying anything, but walked away with some solid perfume's and face cream (which I'm lovin'.) We then drove for a few hours, stopped for lunch, and continued on thru Italy with a stop in Pisa to see the infamous tower. Unfortunately, ... read more

Day 14: Wednesday, December 9th, 2009 Nice, France (took bus to Menton, France) Today was a free day and we decided that, instead of exploring Nice, we wanted to go explore one of Tour Guide Dave's favorite towns, Menton, which was about 40 minutes away by bus. It was only 1 Euro each way versus the train which was 8 Euro each way and took 30 minutes. We, once again, turned to Luna to show us the way since she done do speak French pretty. At one point, I was reminded of a mother duck and her ducklings because we were all walking, almost single file, behind her and if she swerved left, we swerved left. She could have started running in circles and we would have joined her going "Oh, okay, this is what we're ... read more

Day 13: Wednesday, December 9th, 2009 Lucerne, Switzerland to Nice, France. Another long driving day full of many many mountains. We get into Nice and, at first, I am not impressed. We must have come in thru the bad part of town though because when we got to our hotel (Hotel Albert 1 right by the Promenade) it was beautiful again. We stopped at the hotel for about an hour and a half and then we got back on the bus and headed to Monte Carlo, Monaco which was about 40 minutes away. By the time we got there, it was dark but we did a quick stroll thru the area that has the palace. Tonight's excursion was a restaurant and I can't remember what I had, but it didn't disagree with me so I was ... read more
