I did take a weekend excursion to Barcelona, though I have nothing to show for it. I became one of the many people who get things stolen from them on the street called Las Ramblas there after getting my camera stolen. Luckily it is covered under traveler's insurance and I had all my other photos transferred so I did not lose much. At least I'll have the memories!... read more

I am swamped in the middle of midterms, but I wanted to get a chance to upload some of the pictures I took from my trip to Morocco last weekend. I went with the CIEE group so they had tour guides which made it a lot of fun. It was really a different experience getting to live in a Muslim-dominated culture for a few days. Note: It looks like I can only upload 100 photos at a time so I have more to put up later. For now I've got a plane to catch to Barcelona for the weekend!... read more

October 11th 2010

This past weekend I took an excursion to Lagos, Portugal with 8 others from my CIEE program group. We traveled by bus since Google Maps approximated the travel time as 2 hours 34 minutes by car. In reality it took about 6 hours each way so that was pretty surprising. Luckily everyone was fine with sleeping for most of the ride after having gotten up around 6am that morning to catch the bus. When we arrived in Lagos it was raining pretty steadily so we had to figure out where our hostel was in the rain which took some work. After we got settled in the hostel, the rain stopped for a bit in the afternoon so we took the opportunity to run down to the beach and get thrown around by some pretty large waves. ... read more

This past Sunday I went and saw a Sevilla FC soccer match with three others. The seats were a little more than I wanted to spend, but we got a good location. We had a side view of the field in the upper deck so it was very easy to see plays developing. I got my jersey and team banner thing from the store so I looked pretty legit in amongst all the other diehards. The game itself was a lot better than what I had expected it would be. The game experience is great because they have some very passionate fans here and they like to let everybody know it. The part that most surprised me was that the entire stadium would sing these songs and do these chants in unison. It is a pretty ... read more

October 3rd 2010

Well this was the first week of real classes here for all students at the University of Sevilla including myself. I am taking 5 classes now, all in Spanish which is proving to be challenging to this point. Some professors are easier to understand than others. Also, it is obviously easier listening to subjects I have gone over previously than to learn new things and have to understand brand new concepts. I think things will gradually become easier as time goes by. On Friday I took a day trip with some other members from the CIEE group out to a city called Carmona which is just outside Sevilla. It was an amzing trip getting to see all of the many views of the city and getting to explore their castle they have their. It offered some ... read more

September 26th 2010

It's been quite the hectic last week for myself and the other students in the program. On Friday we finished our two-week intensive course with our final exam that had a lot of content on it. I think everything went over alright and I'm frankly just glad that it is over and I can get to some regular course schedules. On Friday night Lex, Matt, and myself went out and sat near the river with our feet dangling about 8 feet above the water and drank a beer and just enjoyed the waterfront scenery which was awesome. Walking back we ran into a marching band of sorts that was marching alongside the riverfront. They were very, very good and the music was awesome. Of course I forgot my camera for all of that which is unfortunate. ... read more

September 18th 2010

Today we took a day trip to Cadiz. Cadiz is a peninsula on the Atlantic Ocean in the southwest of Spain that is famous for their beaches. It is approximately a 1hr 45min bus ride to get to. This morning it was overcast, cloudy, and actually a little bit cool for the first time since I have gotten here. But maybe it's just my inexperience at waking up at 7:30am on Saturdays thusfar. In any case, once we got to the beach we set up shop as a group and grabbed some lunch. It did warm up significantly around 1pm and the sun was shining for the majority of the time following 1pm. Long story short, the beach was glorious and it was a good time. On the downside, I contracted a mean sunburn despite repeated ... read more
