Santorini is relatively small so we rented a small four wheel ATV so we could see it all. We had heard that Oia was the most beautiful part of the island, and that was true. But we decided to stay in Fira since it has a greater selection of the best restaurants, activities, and night life. The people-watching was better in Fira and Oia seemed a bit sleepy for us. We took a day tour sailing on the Mediterranean. The sailing tour included a guide who took us into the center of the volcano that originally formed the island of Santorini. [View Full Entry]

We decided to go to Greece for our third vacation this year. We spent three days in Athens and four days in Santorini. We arrived in Athens at night and we took a Taxi to our hotel near the Plaka. The pictures below of narrow streets full of shops and quaint little restaurants are generally from the Plaka. Indeed we loved the Plaka area so much we spent much of our time there while in Athens. http://www.athensguide.com/plaka.html The next day, we discovered the Acropolis was closed for the day. The staff was on strike that day so we headed south to [View Full Entry]

It was 108 degrees today, but we went out anyway to see Humayun's tomb. Humayun's tomb is of Mughal architecture and is located in New Delhi about 20 minutes from our house. The tomb was built by Emperor Humayun's widow starting in 1562. It was built before the Taj Mahal and you will see the influences. You can read more about the tomb on Wikipedia at the following link: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Humayun's_Tomb You can read about the life of Emperor Humayun at the following link: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Humayun [View Full Entry]

After 2 months of constant heat of over 100 degrees (F), the last couple of days have cooled down substantially. So, Dan and I ventured out yesterday to see the Qutub Minar, one of the seven wonders of India. Check out our pics! Qutub Minar is the tallest brick minaret in the world, and an important example of Indo-Islamic Architecture. The tower is about 20 minutes south of our house in South Delhi, India. The Qutub Minar and its monuments are listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. It was inspired by the Minaret of Jam in Afghanistan, the first Muslim [View Full Entry]

"Life is either a daring adventure or nothing at all." Kim and I spent the first weekend of May in the Punjab region of India, in a town called Amritsar. Our friend Sagar, who is a designer of Indian Wedding dresses, invited us there to attend his Nieces’ wedding. We were able to visit the Golden Temple which is in the town of Amritsar. Here is a link about the temple: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Golden_Temple We took the train to Amritsar early Saturday morning and flew back early Monday morning. The wedding started on Saturday Night at 9pm and ended early Sunday morning at 4am. The wedding ceremony ended after the Bride and Groom [View Full Entry]

Dan and I decided that our first trip from New Delhi as our base should be to the Island of Bali, Indonesia. Our flight departed on Friday night of the sixth week in New Delhi and returned nine days later on Sunday night. We had lived at such a hectic pace getting ready to leave the USA in 30 days, we decided to take a relaxing trip. So, we spent all nine days relaxing on the beach and eating excellent food, and we took just a few day trips around the island taking in the exotic sights and sounds. It was [View Full Entry]

We both enjoy fine dinning, Starbucks, drycleaners, nightlife, hot showers, Sunday brunch, live entertainment, dancing, clubbing, socializing, and meeting interesting people. My sister Kathleen lives in London and requested that we stop in to see her on the way to New Delhi from Oregon. This is a travel story and my little sister is the coolest cookie on the planet, so we stopped by London. Kathleen is always the center of fun. Of course any trip to London should start with a hat and a ride on a double-decker bus. We were immediately game for the hat, but it took some convincing from Kathleen’s boyfriend Chris to get us to ride on a double-decker bus. Chris is charming, so we decided to [View Full Entry]
