Travel Blog Posts
I know, I know. I've been falling behind on updating this blog and I apologize. I'm currently in Sydney living and going to school, but first I'll update you on my last two stops of my trip and then I'll tell you about what I'm up to now. Anyways, Noosa was an interesting stop. The first thing I saw as I walked off of the greyhound was a wild turkey walking around the main bus stop in the heart of Noosa. I knew from there this was going to be a weird stop. Also, hard to say why, but I didn't take a lot of pictures this stop except for my trip to the zoo, but they more than make up for it. I got to my hostel called Dolphins. This was the most interesting hostel ... read more
Everywhere I’ve stopped going down the coast other backpackers told me how much they loved camping on Fraiser Island, and now I know why. Yesterday I got back from my trip to the island and it was the best time I’ve had in Australia so far. After a really long bus ride (16 hours) down from Airlie I got to Rainbow Beach. This is a really small town, but it’s kind of nice. It reminds me of little towns up in cottage country back home. I got off the bus on this little street where all the hostels are. When I say all the hostels I mean three in a row. There was no sign of a beach though, which I thought was kind of weird considering the town is called Rainbow Beach. I walked over ... read more
In Cairns everyone told me that as I move down the coast it’s just going to get colder, but they were wrong. Airlie Beach is boiling hot. I felt like I was baking under the sun here. The town itself is kind of like Cairns but a lot smaller. The whole town is basically one main street with just a few shops and hostels that run along it. There’s some residential areas behind the main road, but that’s about it. The hostel that I stayed in is called Beaches and was another nice hostel. Clean, semi-decent kitchen and every room had a TV. On my first day there my roommates and me discovered that The Simpsons are on everyday at 6, which makes for some good chilling after a day down at the lagoon and before ... read more
hello anyone reading this. My apologies for not being able to update the blog as often as I'd like to. The problem is that internet is hard to come by while traveling in australia. I mostly can only log on for a few mins at a time at crappy free internet places, which makes it hard to write and even harder to upload pictures. Don't worry though, I've been writing my blog in Word on my computer and am saving them for when I can get some wifi for my computer which will make everything much easier. I haven't abandoned you guys or the blog though, so you'll hear from me soon. ... read more
Right now I’m up Cairns. I had to wake up at 5am on Thursday morning so I could check out of my hostel, grab a train and catch my 7am fight up here. The flight up here wasn’t too bad. It’s about a 3 hour flight, so I just took a nap most of the way, which worked out well since I took a discount airline that didn’t show a movie. Anyways, landing in Cairns was a completely different experience than I thought it would be. Sydney was a giant city, just like any other city in the world, except people here have Australian accents. Looking out the window as I landed in the Cairns airport though looked more like landing on a tropical island. All you could see was giant hills of lush green in ... read more
Yesterday I took an amazing day trip up to the Daintree Rainforest and Cape Tribulation. I woke up at 7am, got picked up at 7:30 and was gone until 7pm. It was a long day, but completely amazing. It was the first rainforest I’d ever been to. The guide was a nice girl who actually grew up in Cape Tribulation, so she knew a lot about it. I was bombarded with a ton of information all day, most of which I can’t really remember, but the scenery was amazing and I took almost 200 pictures. We started the trip with a walk through a small national park part of the rainforest where you could see small waterfalls and go swimming. I didn’t go in the water because it was still 9am in the morning, but it ... read more
I made it down to Sydney all safe and sound! After my little visit in LA I had a 12 hour flight from LAX to Auckland New Zealand and from there another 3 hour flight to Sydney. The flights weren’t nearly as bad as I thought they were going to be. I watched a few movies and slept a lot. I arrived here at 8am Sydney time on Tuesday morning. When you fly here you cross the international date line, so I left Sunday and got here Tuesday. Somehow I just skipped Monday. It’s like somehow on Monday June 13 I just didn’t exist. The weather down here hasn’t been the greatest. It’s their winter and I’ve heard them complain that it’s freezing, but it’s all relative. When you come from Canada 16 degree day time ... read more
Techincally I'm already in Sydney, but I'm going to save that post for tomorrow. Yesterday I had a 7 hour layover in LA. I have some friends who live there, so I left the airport for a couple hours to see them. I got to see my friends Ely and Jamie Rise's new apartment and studio because they had moved both locations since the last time I was there in January. The new apartment was nice. The new studio was amazing. Did a little bit of chilling with them, then went to a fancy bakery to get a crazy cupcake (see the pic after), and then went to get In-and-Out for dinner before heading back to the airport to catch my connecting flight. Was only there for like 4 hours, but it's always nice to see ... read more
Last night I went out to the Bedford Academy with a bunch of friends for my going away party. It was a great time. We all got a little bit tipsy and had a lot of laughs. Some great people from all different parts of my life came and I was super happy with the the whole thing. I'm not going to bore everyone with details, but I will post a few of the pics for you to see. Today is my last day in Canada. Spent most of the day so far packing up. I'm kind of done, but I also think I may have packed too much stuff, so I may try to do a bit of editing before I sleep tonight. Next stop LA for a few hours and then on to Australia!!! ... read more
I finally got my travel blog started. The trip hasn't started yet, but that's ok. Just wanted to put up this first post to make sure everything is all good and working. Tomorrow I start to pack my bags. Friday I have a going away party. Sunday I leave. Hopefully I'll put up some pics from the going away party as my first real entry. 'Till then...... read more
