We arrived in Ho chi min after a 26 hour coach journey, after stretching for 2-3 minutes we started making our way towards our hotel using google maps on Elise's phone. It was surprisingly a lot warmer in Ho chi min that it had been in most of Vietnam. We made our way down a very narrow street and upto our hotel. Before we had even arrived in Ho chi min I already wanted to see the Chu chi tunnels where the Vietnamese hid from the Americans during the war so we made a plan to see the tunnels on the second day but I'll get to that in a minute. The first full day in Ho chi min we decided to head out to the war museum where we saw old American planes that were used in the war along with old tanks, bombs that didn't explode what was remaining of the bombs that did explode and how the Vietnamese fought in the war differently to how the Americans fought in the Vietnamese war, quiet an eye opener. The next day we set out to see the Chu chi tunnels . When we were there we watched a video on
how the Vietnamese fought in the war, what weapons were used how the war started and how they would help Americans that were badly injured. Then came the part of the whole trip I was most looking forward to, being able to walk through the tunnels, when I say walk I mean crouch down and crawl in some places. The tunnels were 3-5 metres under ground so if anybody gets claustrophobic I wouldn't advise it as you must walk for 20 metres before the first exit, but me and Elise went for the full 100 metres and the last 10m you literally have to get on your hands and knees to be able to get through and even for us it was a tight squeeze, so It was good to see some sun light after coming out !! The following day I can't remember much of what we done other than going to a market where people were literally grabbing us and telling us to buy there shirts/t-shirts and shorts so we left there pretty fast !! Once the sun went down we headed out for some drinks and we had our eye on one place in the street, it
was little street bars with child size plastic chairs and tables but where you could get a bottle of beer for something like 22p and every night it was so so busy. After getting a couple of chairs in the bar we met the Hungarian couple that we have been seeing throughout most of Asia, but we haven't seen them since even tho our planned routes were almost identical .. The next day we boarded our coach to Phnom Penh which is the capital city of Cambodia, not much to do here as I only remember eating and drinking not beer as beer in cambodia was $1 and we felt as though we was now being ripped off !! After a couple days in the capital we then got on a 6 hour coach journey to Sihanoukville and after walking around for a couple of hours we found out that everything happens on the beach of a night time, everything being eating, drinking and partying. But after getting off the coach we was being handed leaflets where we could get 1 free beer in these different bars just off the beach so on the first night out we both got
a little tipsy on free beer. Whilst we was in Sihanoukville we went snorkelling and done a bit of Island hopping. After doing 7 nights of drinking free beer and having BBQ Food it was time to leave and board our 11 hour coach trip to Siem reap. The coach rolled in just a near 7 hours later than it should have done and half of the journey we spent not on Tarmac but on mud roads. A lot of the time we spent in Siem reap we rented bikes out and went riding around the city nearly every day. On our final day in Siem reap we visited the temples that are some 1000 years old but we thought as though it was ruined by the lookie by men trying to sell us drinks and food half way through. The next day we left and made our way to the airport where we would board our 45 minute flight into Bangkok. When we got to our hotel it was nothing like where we last stayed in Bangkok, There was no swimming pool on the roof, you couldn't open the bathroom door fully as the bed got in the way,
if you was over 5'10 you wouldn't have fitted into the room and the shower plug in the floor was blocked so the bathroom used to fill up with water after a shower, to top it off we got £220 stolen out of our room also, but hey your not a backpacker unless you've been robbed right? After checking out we boarded our last coach journey of south east Asia (sparks were flying) to koh Tao a little island off the east coast where we learned to scuba dive and we're now official padi scuba divers. 3 nights there and we then boarded our 40 minute ferry to koh Phangan where I am now sitting in my hammock writing this for all of you to read. Here on our first day we witnessed cockroaches walking in and out of our bathroom but thought hey were backpackers so ignored it told reception about our problem and kept the bath room door closed at all times. That night the restaurant at our hotel was doing an all you can eat BBQ and both of us being starving thought great, will stock up and then head off to the full moon party, after
munching through my second chicken kebab and realising the first kebab was a little chewy I broke the cube of chicken in half realising that only the outer edge was cooked. A few days later we've come back into the room late at night to discover that the roof in our bathroom had fallen down, now by this point were both hacked off and thinking that this is by far the worst hotel we've stayed in so far but it gets worse !! We changed rooms early next morning went out that day on our rented scooter, we got a couple of beers and saw the most amazing sunset from the Amsterdam bar (Thanks Tom) and come back to find a RAT running around our room at 11 o'clock at night. We will be 110% be leaving a review...
