So as we haven't written a blog in a while I'll jump straight into Australia!
We landed in Sydney after a seriously long flight with no entertainment (except for me after id polished off the entire stock of red wine) and were greeted by dad's old work friend who took us in for a week until we were ready to set off on the road.
During our first week we visited bondi, manly, cruised the parramatta and climbed the Sydney harbour bridge!
After purchasing our new home for the next couple months we set off for the South!
On our first night we were lucky enough to meet another travelling couple who we then spent the rest of our trip with.
We decided to drive down to Melbourne for Australia Day which took around a week, on the way we stopped off in some of the most beautiful hidden spots we've ever seen. We spent most nights chilling on the beach with drinks, BBQs and a fire. One night Jack was unlucky enough to come face to face with a giant python... Which nobody else saw...
We visited beach after beach, saw lighthouses, kangaroos and were even greeted by
koala bears in the middle of the night. By the time we got to Melbourne we were pretty excited to celebrate Australia Day as the hype was massive! Unfortunately for us we spent most of the night wandering the streets drunk searching for bars/clubs only to find ourselves in a Chinese restuarant pigging out on what at the time seemed to be the best meal we'd ever consumed before heading home to the van for a good nights sleep!
After a couple nights in Melbourne we found the spot we had picked to park up pretty questionable. Late night visits from old men, Jack being constantly chatted up by naked men in the showers and the one man who stood clothe less in the carpark. So I looked up the spot on google and it turned out we were staying at the gay nudest beach of Melbourne which had been complained about so many times by locals as a lot of the visitors used the surrounding bushes for late night rendezvous... If you know what I mean...
As the weather had turned slightly cold we decided to make our way to Adelaide, it seemed like the only hot place in
Australia at the time so the 800km drive was totally worth it...
We took the famous Great Ocean Road south down to Adelaide which was basically miles and miles of cliff driving along side the ocean it was as amazing as it sounds so you should all be jealous! We also stopped off in a spa for the day to freshen up... Oh the traveller life... When we finally arrived In Adelaide the weather was beautiful and we found a perfect spot over looking the beach to park up for a few days. This is where we had our first goon experience ...
For those who don't already know goon is box wine but instead of using proper wine they use all the crap that's left over and stick about 4-5 litres in a box for poor travellers to buy for around £5-10.
We decided as we had a few days to chill to start early and take a few before photos of the goon day.. the plan was to take before after and during just to see how bad goon actually was. As the first box went down in under 2 hours we thought it was a great idea
to buy another... Boy were we wrong! After starting an argument with the whole carpark, nearly getting into a fight and throwing up everywhere we all agreed to hit the pub!
The next day I spent most of the morning in bed unable to move most of my limbs wondering what on earth had happened, remembering we had forgotten to take any after/during photos, and feeling pretty bad about the arguments we caused with the rest of the travellers. It seemed like the perfect time to leave Adelaide and the beautiful carpark.
As none of us were ready to head back to Melbourne just yet we agreed it would be a good idea to check out a few beaches around the South and chillaxxx some more just cause we can! We drove for a while until we found the most beautiful spot hidden at the edge of a tiny town surrounded by mountains with a tiny beach.. It was paradise!! We got out the camera for a shot of the sunset and came across something no one was expecting...
Not only did we have during shots of the goon day we also had after and not a single
one of us could remember taking a thing... Turns out not one of us could remember around 3-4hours of the day... I've added a few of my favourites to the blog for you all to enjoy!
It was a rather chilly night spent at this spot so we decided to leave the next day and find somewhere else however, Jack came across a pathway on one of the mountains near by so we spent the whole day hiking which was by far one of the highlights of our time in Australia.
As we were all cream crackered and no one fancied driving after such a long day we hit the showers and set up camp for another night. This was the night Jack slipped in the shower, face planted the concrete floor and almost gave himself a broken nose... Luckily his forehead bounced off first and cushioned his fall.. Ouchie!
From here on we headed back to Melbourne to meet Tom (My sisters boyfriend) for the World Cup cricket match, hit up St Kilda festival, had the van broken into (nothing was taken) scooted over to Sydney, Sold the van yay! Flew to the Whitsunday Islands, sailed
around for 3 beautiful days on an incredible pirate ship. Met up with Tom again, may or may not have woken up naked somewhere really inappropriate, went to Future Festival and jumped on a plane to New Zealand!!
Doesn't seem like much but we've had the best 2 months in Australia and met some of the coolest, strangest, funniest and most friendliest people...
Please take a moment to enjoy some of our awesome photos.
