Arriving in Ko Phagnan we checked into our hotel. Our hotel had a perfect location and was walking distance to all the action. We had lunch on the beach and then went swimming. This was my favorite beach so far. The water actually had waves and the sand was phenomenal. That night we walked around town looking for where the action was. The town was like a ghost town with no one around. We finally found all the people. They were all partying on the beach. We watched a fire show and had a lot of fun. The next day we rented a scooter and checked out the island. We had seen signs that they had a "Wipeout" course here. We decided to do it. However when we arrived this was nothing like the Wipeout on ... read more

The end is near and I'm spending it with my family. Have I mentioned how much I can't believe two years have gone by and I'm headed out of here? Anyway yesterday really couldn't get any more Thai than it was. Scratch that it couldn't get any more Isan! My sister had mentioned the day before that we were all going to head out to the field and eat some fish. I hadn't been in the fields since year one mostly cause there isn't a whole lot to do, but we were on a mission to eat fish this time around so I was okay with heading out there once more. I was not so okay with the 6am intended wake up time, but this is Thailand and I didn't expect anyone to actually be awake ... read more

My Bangkok adventure started in summer of 2013 and I am pretty sure it wouldn't be my last. Living in Sydney all my life, it is nice to have a change of environment in a place that is very different from what I used to know. Asian and Western countries are not similar--like black and white. The cultures as well as the traditions of people in Bangkok is very interesting, ancient and diverse. It is amazing how they can keep their traditions yet still thrive to be one of the world's best tourist attractions because of their contemporary lifestyle and state of the art hotels. I would like to share with you my 5 day Bangkok adventure that really renewed and refreshed me. Day One ... read more

"What's your name" "Taylor" "AHHHH LIKE TAYLOR SWIFT" Exactly like Taylor Swift I have been writing a comparative essay between the Cuban and Iranian revolutions for class, and I realized I should do the same for my life here in Thailand. This comparitive essay will prove to you how my current life is exactly the same as that of a famous celebrity...for example Taylor Swift. 1. I have a house in a big city, yet I spend most of my time in random cities throughout the country bouncing from one hotel to another. How many times do you hear celebraties making this claim. They are rarely at their multi million dollar homes because they are off bouncing from one location to the next. Well so am I! Maybe my roost isn't a mansion in the hills ... read more

We awoke on our first morning at Pimalai to a sound that brought fear into my heart... it was raining! This was not good, though at least we could still walk about in shorts and a t-shirt once it had stopped, which it did after 30 minutes. Sunday was the lazy day, after breakfast (excellent) we headed for the beach and despite the fact it was a little cloudy you still needed sun tan lotion to avoid being burnt (as I learnt to my cost!) The only other thing on the agenda was to seek out the dive centre. This was duly done in the afternoon and after the ever present form filling was complete I'd booked myself for 3 dives starting tomorrow. Later on it started to rain so we headed back to the room ... read more

Chiang Mai has been simply fantastic. One of our favourite places so far. A Northern hub surrounded by far away misty mountains with a bustling city life filled with night markets, shops and incredible food options. We stayed near the "Old City" in the heart of CM at a quaint hostel, Chiang Mai Thai House, just off the main road on a small soi (street). We paid 400BHT a night (insanely cheap after the islands!) and got a big bed, fan, tv with an English movie channel! A POOL and super cheap restaurant. We loved it. The old city is surrounded by a moat which gives it a slight medieval feel. This city is filled with history. There are hundreds of Wats scattered all around, and parts of the original city wall built over 700 years ... read more

Well the time had finally come to say farewell and begin our adventure of a life time in Thailand -"the land of smiles". I was excited, nervous and anxious about our trip abroad. I knew it was going to be a culture shock -and boy was I right. After what seemed an eternity we finally landed in Bangkok, it was a 14 hour flight from NZ with a short stopover in Sydney. Getting through immigration was a piece of cake, and I couldn't believe we were finally here. I imagined armed guards and sniffer dogs greeting us off the plane - but there were none in sight. It took 5 minutes to get our passport visa stamped, grabbed our luggage and headed through the exit. Couldn't believe there wasn't even a baggage check!! We met our ... read more

Having consumed lunch we made our way back to the car and then it was off to the Elephant Sanctuary. This took about 30 minutes and the journey took us ever deeper into the rural backwaters of Thailand. We were now climbing above the plains and into the mountains that border Thailand & Myanmar (Burma) which made it so difficult to build the railway and cause so much suffering. When we arrived we were the only tourists there so without any waiting (apart from the opportunity to purchase some ripe Thai bananas - 20 Baht - approx 50p) the Mahout arrived atop the Elephant we were to ride. On her back was, what can only be described as, a garden seat sitting precariously on her shoulders. Luckily the park had provided platforms which we climbed so ... read more

-Koh Adang- The sky is pissing a piss as if it went out drinking last night, stumbled home intoxicated, and passed out before relieving it's bulging bladder. OH the relief it must feel. It's lucky it didn't pee it's cottony cloud sheets before it woke up for the day. How emberassing had the sun woken up and had to wash piss soaked cloud sheets first thing. If theres one thing the sun hates, its having to clean up after the sloppy sky after a night of his debaucherous drinking! That is NOT what she signed up for when, so many many moons ago, they eloped in vegas, elvis officiant and all. So as you may have guessed, we have arrived on Koh Adang. And yes, it is in fact raining. Why, right now as I write ... read more
