Krabi 17 mrt t/m 20 & Ko Lanta t/m 26mrt
Published: May 8th 2012Asia » Thailand » South-West Thailand » Krabi » Koh LantaHallo allemaal! Veel rotsen, groen en goed ... read more
I’M BECOMING A TRAVEL SNOB. It’s true. We are here in paradise, at one of the most beautiful destinations in the world with emerald green waters and dramatic karst formations jutting out of the water, but all I can think about is how annoying the tourists are. I guess I shouldn’t be surprised that we aren’t the only ones that like this whole tropical paradise sort of thing. But seriously, what are all these damn tourists with blotchy red skin and hideous swimsuits doing in my paradise? Can’t they get their own elsewhere!? But let me back up a second. From Ko Phangan we took a catamaran back across the Gulf to mainland Thailand, and then jumped into a minivan with hordes of other travelers heading west to the Andaman coast. From here we were ... read more
We slept rather later the day after the full moon party. But since we still had another full day on Ko Phangan, we paid yet another visit to our new local joint for breakfast. As we were finishing up we bumped into our british friend from the other night, Ricky. We asked him if he wanted to join us for some snorkelling, which he accepted, and we spent the afternoon flippering around out in the bay. As it turns out, Ricky had recieved his new bank cards in the mail that day and was now planning the next leg of his trip. He told us he was also going to Ko Phi Phi in a few days as well. Before we parted ways we said we'd be sure to look for him while we were there. ... read more
So much to tell you about! Sorry it's been a while but things got pretty crazy busy on the tour. I can't believe ten days of it have gone by already. So to continue where I left off, we got the bus to Phnom Pehn and didn't get there until the evening so not much to report from that day. The next day in the morning we went to the Cambodian Genocide Museum and to the killing fields where the bodies of over 20,000 Cambodians killed during the Khmer Rouge regime were found in mass graves. It was a horrific experience - I can't hide that and I did cry at one point learning about how terrible everything that happened was but nevertheless I was glad to have gone and to have learnt a little more ... read more
Storms, Karst and Tsunami daft! The degree came in useful after all!
Published: April 12th 2012Asia » Thailand » South-West Thailand » KrabiHeaded from Koh Samui to Koh Pha-ngan (Tuesday 3rd) on a boat packed with people heading for the full moon party! Managed to locate Coral Bungalows easily enough and discovered it was home of the 'world famous pool party' so thought we'd go for our first night! Pool party was mad and we had a few more buckets then ended up in the pool thanks to some joker! But a good night anyways! Spent a few days at the pool and a few nights watching storm clouds gather over Koh Samui and turning into violent lightening storms accross the water, pretty amazing sight! On the Thursday we went a day trip to Angthong National Marine Park to see some sights, snorkel and go kayaking. The snorkelling wasn't great, about 6 boats of 30 people meant more ... read more
Hey!! After Koh Tao we went to stay in Krabi Town and our hostel called Pak Up was amazing!! It was our second dorms but so much better and clean. We booked a white water rafting and ATV trip for the next day. On the trip we went to a waterfall that Michael went and swam in but I couldn't because I didn't have my swim stuff it was really nice water though so I was gutted. Next we went white water rafting which was so much fun, the instructors were mental and it just turned into a massive water fight between all of the raft boats, loads of people just ended up jumping into the river haha! After we had dried off we went to a jungle safari place and here they had a fish ... read more
We got on the boat which took us to Surat Thani mainland Thailand where we had been from the sleeper train from Bangkok and here transferred to a coach heading across to Krabi. It stopped just outside Krabi where we got onto another bus into Krabi town centre. A quick walk around Krabi which was smaller than expected found us a room with Fridge, hot shower, fan and Tv for 400baht so we stayed here. We found that Krabi was a stop off point for everybody going to Railay, Phi Phi and Lanta so we changed our plan and only stayed for 2 nights. There was a night market by the riverside which done the cheapest food ever and we had Pad Thai which this time came with peanuts and Tofu aswell as usual Egg/Shrimp. We ... read more
Thailand - Diving and Beaches
Published: March 10th 2012Asia » Thailand » South-West Thailand » KrabiOur trip from Siem Reap to Bangkok was interesting for one reason, the mini-van ride on the Thailand side of the border. We boarded a bus at Siem Reap around 6:00am and we made it to the border a few hours later. After an hour or so we were through the border and greeted on the other side by a tour guide that assigned us to a van, and one of the craziest drivers in the world. I believe the speed limit in Thailand was 80 km/h. Using the kilometer stakes I had marked us going about 120 km/h most of the time, slightly faster at times. This would not be a big deal on a normal U.S. road, but in Thailand you are weaving in and out of traffic and passing cars with cars coming ... read more
hey Malaysia, its not me… its you( and your freakin tricks… i mean the lost wallet, c’mon)… bye. lol. clock ticked 4:30am and my taxi was waiting downstairs. off to Sungai Nibong terminal, 20rm, to catch the 5am van to cross the border to Hat Yai, the southernmost part of Thailand. i purchased the 30rm ticket, Penang-Hat Yai, the previous day in the terminal. i was quite surprised the trip was on time, 5am, more so i was the only passenger at that time. it was like i hired the whole van to accommodate my lone ass. sweet. the van was fast and the driver was furious. jeeez we werent cruising the hiway, we were flying 123 fukcin knots. nuts! much to my liking though, really. who wants a 5hr trip when you can get ... read more
It's not so shabby in Krabi!
Published: February 25th 2012Asia » Thailand » South-West Thailand » KrabiHi All, We're just coming to the end of our 'week off' in Krabi... it's amazing here- absolutely stunning and literally nothing to do! Our hotel is definitely a step up from the sanctuary as well- the toilet flushes for a start! Not much to report on what we've been doing... just generally exploring and relaxing- we went on a nice boat trip today around the Phi Phi islands and went to Maya beach where 'The Beach' was filmed. Off to Cambodia on Monday for our next volunteer placement... hope it's not too much of a shock to the system after being so spoilt this week. Hope you're all well. Lots of love Jim and Ellie xxxxxxxxxxxxxx... read more
