Background: A unified Thai kingdom was established in the mid-14th century. Known as Siam until 1939, Thailand is the only Southeast Asian country never to have been taken over by a European power. A bloodless revolution in 1932 led to a constitutional monarchy. In alliance with Japan during World War II, Thailand became a US ally following the conflict. Thailand is currently facing armed violence in its three Muslim-majority southernmost provinces.

Hello, We have moved to the south of Thailand, and very much enjoying the blissful beaches. After spending an action packed weekend in Bangkok (this city is starting to grow on us). We moved to a sparsely inhabited area of coastline a day from Bangkok. Ban Saphan Yai is not on the tourist trail, and there is nothing to do but laze in hammocks, and walk along the beach. Next stop Ko Samui, not an island we would recommend, but there is no reason to explore it when you have a little piece of beach paradise. Our bungalow was right on [View Full Entry]

I met a few New Zealand girls at my guesthouse who have taken me on as one of their own and we have been ripping and roaring around Krabi seeing all of the sites. After arriving here in Krabi I wandered around trying to find cheap accommodation with two Canadians until we found a place where rooms were 150 baht per night. That's only $5!!!! It was such a great place with a lady with very good english so they helped plan our trips over the past few days. I jumped on a kayaking trip with the ladies yesterday and we [View Full Entry]

ok so here we are on the last blog on the last day of our stay in krabi, and pretty much the end of the trip. my head is full of mixed emotions. glad to be coming home but sad that this holiday is nearly done. i'm up early and looking out the window at the torrential rain. i hope this is a good sign because the barman said that if its heavy rain it will pass quickly, light rain stays for a long time. we are booked on a speed boat trip to the 4 nearby islands this morning so [View Full Entry]

English translation coming soon...

Wow, we had an amazing holiday in Krabi! NOW I know why people go to Thailand (I have to admit that I am partial to Cambodia & Vietnam)! It was absolutely one of the most beautiful beach areas we have been to. The rock formations, the lush landscapes, the mangrove forests, the beautiful beaches and water...all incredibly gorgeous. I've been really slow putting up these photos...we actually went to Krabi awhile ago - in May2008! But the good memories are still hanging around and I am excited to share these photos with you. The seascape and rock formations were amazing. I [View Full Entry]

The journey to Krabi was really pleasant, and we were all really well looked after with lots of space for Suzie to put her leg up. Krabi town itself seemed really Thai, which was good after Ko Samui, and all the locals were really friendly. Suzie and Justin made good friends with a boat man called Puk who introduced them to his whole family. The food was also extremely cheap and delicious! Whilst at Krabi, we took a trip to the most beautiful beach that we have viewed in our whole lives. Ts was called Riley Beach and it was stunning! [View Full Entry]

...but for the blasted monsoons! It's Sod's Law (or Murphy's Law depending on where you're from) that the weather is great when your in a city but then miserable when you try to make it to a beach! We set of from Phuket Town just after midday on a very pink bus to Krabi. The plan was to connect to a longtail boat to Railay Beach, about 14km from Krabi on a secluded peninsular on the mainland only accessible by boat. The bus journey was touch and go as to who might win out of our Big Pink Bus and at [View Full Entry]

The way that Krabi is often reffered to you would think thatit is a beach destination, instead it is a jump off intersection for people heading on two Kho Phi Phi, Ray Lei, Ao namg and several other favorites. The journey their was by tuk tuk, boat, coach and mini bus, on one of the breraks for change of transport i got talking to two english Ladies in their 50's who were travelling around thailand, as we rolled into Krabi they advised that we would have to get a tuk tuk to the coastal resort of Ao Nang, i asked what [View Full Entry]

The title summarizes everything we have experienced thus far. School is finished, everything seems to be falling into place (whatever that place is) and we are far more relaxed than ever before. For those that dont know, we are taking 1 month to travel Southeast Asia, namely Thailand, Laos, Cambodia and Vietnam. Amy thinks I should talk more about the last few days of school, but we pay by the minute to use the Internet. We started our SE Asia trip in Phuket (South Thailand). The trip began with some pampering, relaxing, spending, burning, burning and moisturizing. We spent those days [View Full Entry]

Hey everyone, Thank you for all your warm wishes, thoughts and prayers. We are recovering well, Brian is looking much much better. We spent the day in court yesterday, which was a very interesting experience. One of our Thai friends translated for us, and we haven't heard the outcome yet, but I hope to feel some sense of justice at least from the proceedings. Today, we are leaving for Bangkok at around 5pm and will arrive early tomorrow morning. We will spend Sunday getting passport pictures taken and perhaps shopping for cameras. I don't think that there is much hope of [View Full Entry]
