A stunning setting
Hello everybody!

Well since the last entry we left Rai lay and went to Koh Phi Phi, the place where the beach is filmed! We took a ferry which took an hour and a half to get over there...........The island itself was much bigger than we thought and as you got closer you could see how much it was really like Corfu but with noodles!

We were chucked off the boat then it was backpacks on in the blazing sun and into the madness. There were little streets cram packed with travel agents, shops, diving centers and guesthouses., every place trying to get you in there! It was so strange as we are now all to used to locals trying to get us to stay in there guesthouse but here is is westerners trying to get you in and trying to get you to dive, its crazy! This is totally what we do not want hence the caption. We manged to get a cheap room for 350bht it was clean but basic and away from the rabble as much as we could possibly be.

After being there a few hours it became all too clear that it

was overcrowded and over run with tourists, by this point we decided that we just wanted to see 'The Beach' Beach and get out of here. We booked onto a sunset cruise which at first looked like a 18-30's booze cruise! We cruised around and had chance to snorkel in the clear green waters around the island then made our way to THE BEACH, which is in fact a totally different island. The boat stopped in a cove as we looked over there was a hole in a rock ahead.......where the waves were crashing through as it was a bit choppy! The guy told us we could either swim or kayak across and this was the way across!!!!! Well Ste being a man decided to swim i on the other hand as people well know am not that stronger swimmer so kayaked. once at the rocks by the hole there was a rope that you had to hold onto for dear life! We pulled ourselves along with waves nearly knocking you off your feet........every step so careful to make sure you put your foot on the next rock and you didn't slip over! It is so hard to explain, the

On the "Beach" beach
only way to describe it is for those of you that remember the krypton factor it was like a challenge from that! but without the prize.

Once through it was so worth it.....you walked through the national park which was an array of greens until you reached the white powdery sand. It didn't look exactly like it did in the film but all the same it was beautiful, the water so clear and it was so sheltered from the sea by huge cliffs (like in the film). we stayed there for a hr or so then realised that the boat had pulled round into the bay so we could have got to it that way but it would not have been so fun! we had to take a kayak back that had been left, the sea was so bumpy thought we may have fallen out but we were a good team and stayed aboard. Once back on the bog boat we had some tea as we watched the sun set and a boat of local fisherman catching tuna.......the guys on our boat swapped tuna for beer then BBQ it it was the nicest fish we ever tasted so fresh!

These guys traded beer for the fresh tuna in their catch

A day and a night was more than enough in Phi Phi in hind sight we should have just done a day trip but hind sight would be a great thing wouldn't it hey! We booked a ferry back to the mainland to krabi then onto the Thai Malaysian border for our next country..................................
