beautiful beach on coral bay Hi there,
first of all i would like to apologise for my awful spelling on the last blog i read over it and it was terrible...sorry!
We caught a ferry back to Krabi then got on a mini bus from there......It took us about 3hrs to a town called Hat Yai where we were dropped off at a local bus station! we were the only tourists there it was great and a huge change after Phi Phi. We got onto our transport that took us and half a dozen Thai people to the border. the journey took us down the east side of Thailand where all the trouble is at the moment........we felt very safe but is was very clear that something was going on there, lots of police check points where the other passengers were having to show there Id cards to the soldiers. They never once asked us though. We dropped off a few people before it was our turn to get off and all we could see was a long dark road ahead. you never quite know what to expect at these border crossings its strange. the driver told us to "go that way" that
Boat Man
this fella just popped out of his hut in his towel to move his boat! way being into the darkness!!!! We made it over to the Thai side where we had our passports stamped out of Thailand.........then proceeded accross a very spooky long dark bridge, there was nobody around. the border closed at 10pm and it was 9.30pm at this point!
We were welcomed by the "welcome to Malaysia" sign over the bridge like a gateway into Malaysia. after a look around around we found the immigration and did what we were supposed to then made it through to customs. we were asked where we were from we replied England and so were just ushered through with not having to have our bags scanned......very funny!!!! Straight away the Malay people were so friendly and helpful. I visited the bathroom where i had a wee with a thousand mozzies a large moth and a toad!
All this typing hurts my eyes..........................
We were greeted at the other side by a very friendly man who took us to change some Thai Baht into Malay Ringgit, We walked over the road to the only place that was open........about 6 men all sat around a large TV watching an old James Bond film and loving it!!!!!!
Restaurant
Our delicious fish supper and view ha ha ha. The guy that greeted us then took us to the port town to stay ready to get up and get a ferry to the Perhentian in the morning. It took us around an hour an a half to get there calling in at a halal KFC along the way! We ended up staying in a real bad room for the night it felt cleaner not to have a shower.........we had no water or food so planned to go to the only place open (again) to get some! just as we got in our rooms there was the biggest storm either of us had ever seen we made to the front door then had to go back.......the thunder was so loud and the rain just bounced down whilst the lightening lit everything up!
The next morning we got up and went to have some breakfast, in a place that had no menu just food that was sat in a glass cabinet that looked like it had been sat there for days...so we had boiled egg with bread! yum ha ha ha. We took a James Bond speed boat across to the Perhentian Islands, the small one of
Love Diving!
There was reef sharks,Triggerfish,Nemo fish,Turtles,Parrotfish and many many more below the surface the 2, Kecil. We had never heard of this place before it was our dutch friends who told us we had to come and they were right.............
After our speed boat journey that took us bouncing over the waves jumping in and out of the water we arrived at long beach, the sand white the water crystal clear! we looked at a few places and decided that it was very expensive for what they were so headed for the other side of the island to coral Bay. It was a tough walk through the jungle bit in the middle of the island but it was well worth it. This beach is much quieter than the other and cheaper. the Perhentians are a divers paradise, as it is a bit of a nightmare to get too not many people come here so it is still quite undeveloped which is how we hope it will stay. little beach shacks along the beach all doing fresh fish bbq's at night. The island is dry, as it is Muslim there is no alcohol, another reason why so few people come maybe?????
we are staying in a tree house type bungalow, that over
A Glimmer
A tiny spek of sunshine before the storm commenced looks the sea which again is so clear. there is alot of coral so it is a bit rocky under foot but the fish are amazing they are just right there all wanting to say hi! We have just chilled out a bit since we have been here after are epic of travelling at the start of the week! We rented a kayak and paddled round to see deserted beaches it was so pretty, the sand not with one footprint in it, until we arrived on it! You can just snorkel around the beach and see so many fish. The water is an emerald green that even when it is very deep you can see to the bottom!
Ste is doing his PADI diving course, he is on day 2 of 3 today. It is so much cheaper here to do it than any where we have seen. He did a lot of classroom work yesterday then has been for his first proper dive today where he has seen sting rays and trigger fish! He is out on the boat again at the moment so as the weather is a bit cloudy i am catching up on these entries!
well i am going to go now and get a drink and Ste should be back soon so hopefully he would have seen turtles and sharks that are in these waters! will let you know on the next entry. We are loving Malaysia so much so far it is beautiful and has the people that make you feel so welcome......wish we had longer here!
Hope everybody is OK speak soon xxxxxxxx
