Railay Beach
The cave beach Well we have arrived at the beautiful beaches of southern Thailand!
After Leaving Chiang Mai we got on our flight to Bangkok, We flew with air Asia who were very cheap.......but we soon realised why! they allow 15kgs of check in baggage and obviously we were over by quite a bit so they said we could either pay or take out some bits and out them into our hand luggage. We had to pay for both flights one from Chiang Mai to Bangkok then one from Bangkok to Krabi! So that amounted to quite a bit so we decided to take out some kg's!!!!!! So we weighed our bags and we were still slightly over by 1.5kg but the guy said it was fine! like pack horses now we took our short 1hr flight to Bangkok......
Once in Bangkok we had to wait a few hrs before we could check in so we grabbed the nicest chicken kebabs ever, a nice change from rice and noodles! Then we went to check in....it suddenly dawned on us that there were just queues of western holiday makers going to the places we wanted to go! suppose it is to be
Boat trip round the Islands
Koh Poda, outside the boat with the fish! expected though hey. Once at the check in desk we were informed that our bags were over weight...that we knew but only by 1.5kg!!!! the man behind the desk insisted we had to pay or take the luggage out and carry it........unbelievable! by this point we were getting a bit annoyed with this Asian ryanair! out of principal we opted to take out the 1. bloody 5 kgs! Once back at the desk i asked why is it OK to carry it on but not check it in? it all is a money making thing that they were passing off as a safety issue! they were talking to the wrong people weren't they! he replied that 'This is Bangkok and the man who let us off with the 1.5kgs would go to prison!' hmmmm then carried on to say that 'It is illegal what he did and the plane would crash and we would die then he would go to prison!!!!!!' stood there open mouthed in disbelief that anybody would say such a thing we could not understand what difference it made having spot on 15kgs in your check in luggage then what ever you like top carry on! unbelievable
The Islands
The clear water around the islands it is like a bath good job we are not nervous flyer's isn't it!!!!!! with this we took our flight which was half empty to Krabi.........
Once in Krabi we were told that the only way out into town was by taxi that they provided that cost some outrageous price!!!!! a bit sick of people organizing us Ste decided to check out what was going on outside. He managed to flag down a passing tuk tuk who asked for less than half the price inside....just goes to show that they just rip you off! so we hopped in this tuk tuk yute thing with a couple of locals, bags on the roof and headed into Krabi town center. As we got off that we were straight onto a yet another Ute tuk tuk thing, but this one was very over crowded so Ste was outside holding onto the back along with some local school kids....myself on the other hand as i am a lady was made to sit inside!!!!!! We got to the Boat terminal when i say boat terminal i mean a few wooden long tail boats with the wives of the drivers trying to get you in their husbands boat! We befriended
Railay Beach
One of the many sunsets......beautiful a rasta Thai lady who insisted that we go with her hubby so we waited to see if any more people would turn up to make it cheaper to go to Railay Island, time passed i went to get some food and drink on the back of her mo to then it started to rain so we decided to pay the extra and go there and then. as it is low season here there are not as many people which is good! After a trek onto the wet muddy beach we were knee deep in the sea throwing our backpacks on one of these wooden long tail boats which you can see in the pics (a large wooden canoe) 10mins a bumpy ride later we were dumped on the beach! and what a beach........
Railay West is the posh bit with hotels that cost up to 800quid a night, but the east side is cheaper which is obviously where we are! The Island itself it so small there are no cars or motos you can walk round it in 10mins! The side we are on is mangrove kinda swampy with a few resorts and a very random colony of
thai rasta who sit around saying "yeah man" listening to Bob Marley smoking joints! We are in a very nice little bungalow with a pool, a pool bit of a novelty for us at the moment! We are a short walk from the west beach and the cave beach which is the nicest.......it is surrounded by bizarre rock formations and has chimps running riot all over the show! The sand is so soft and white an the water is Green! jealous????? We have just chilled watched the sunsets played Frisbee you know the normal backpacker things when you are on a budget!!!!! they dont cost anything. We have been on a boat trip today and visited A few of the near by Islands, chicken island named for the strange rock that looks like a chicken head then to Poda island then a couple more that i don't think have names! the water is amazingly clear with fish everywhere you are not even knee deep and there are fish you would see in an aquarium fab!
We leave here in the morning to go to Koh Phi Phi, where the beach was filmed so that should be good we are
Chicken Island
Chicken Island......well its head anyway staying there for a night wonder if we will see Leo???? ha ha ha. Gotta go the pool is calling and Ste wants another game of Frisbee...........
Speak to you all soon xxxxxxxx
