Sarah: We took the ferry on Friday to Koh Phangan along with hundreds of backpackers, heading to the Full Moon party the next day. Many of them were close to half our age and were blaring out 'tunes' from their portable speakers whilst others 'whooped'. Yes: I have turned 30 and become an intolerant old woman! They were harmless however, and we were confident that we had booked a location far enough removed from the buckets of cheap spirits and neon body paint. It was to be a few days of reading and relaxing for us! The sun had set by the time we arrived by tuk tuk at Haad Salad (Salad Beach) on the north west side of Koh Phangan and it had been a long hot and hassling journey that started with our taxi ... read more

This being my last full day on Ko Pha Ngan prior to a busy days travelling tomorrow I decided to spend the day chilling out. After spending most of the morning pottering but not really getting much done I wandered over to see Elizabeth at her hotel. With a fantastic swimming pool between the bar and the beach that's where I found her and a few moments later that's where I joined her! After having a bit of a catch up and doing a few lengths - nothing too strenuous - we got out and dried off in the heat of the day. Popping back to my hotel to get changed and then over to the food market before popping back to say our goodbyes. I would be heading back to Bangkok tomorrow while Elizabeth was ... read more

Having a pretty lazy start to the day i was getting collected at 13.00 to carry on my journey towards Ko Pha Ngan. With only me this time in the minibus i was driven to what i think was a bus station. Being given a sticker and told to sit and wait - for what exactly i wasnt quite sure - as this place felt in the middle of nowhere and with not that much activity! Only having to wait about 30 minutes for a coach to turn up and myself and 3 others got on to be driven this time to Don Sala pier. This time having to wait a couple of hours before heading off to the islands. The first island we passed was Ko Samui where a few people got off then onwards ... read more

Not having had the best nights sleep i had a chat with the manager over breakfast to ask if he had a portable fan for the room. Some of the rooms do come with air conditioning - but they are a little beyond my budget and usually a fan is perfectly adequate for the job. The fan being on its last legs and them not having a portable one the manager said for me to leave my room key with him for the day and he would sort something out. Feeling pleased that it was gonna be sorted i headed out to firstly get some laundry done then to book my return journey back to Bangkok in a few days time. Deciding to travel first class the entire ticket ( boat from Ko Pha Ngan, bus ... read more

After having a bit of a tense conversation with the hotel manager this morning - he thought i should have come back earlier to pick up my key ( nothing had been agreed) and i wasnt to know that no one was gonna be there when i got back i decided i thought it was best to move hotels. Only previously booking 2 nights initally on Ko Pha Ngan i wasnt sure i wasnt going to move onto Ko Tao, ( a smaller island just north of Ko Pha Ngan,) but i decided to stay where i was and to enjoy and maybe see some more of the island instead. So packing up my bits i headed off to the hotel next door - after a nice greeting and being given a nice cool room i ... read more

You heard me. Allt. ... read more

And a great view it is! Klicka här för ... read more

Hello, Last day travelling around Koh Phangan by moped, we visited Sramanora waterfall in the south east, but to be honest all the waterfalls we have seen on the island have not been worth the effort. They either have little water in them, construction work going on by the side or huge industrial pipes going through them. Oh well we were pleased we found this one today along all the maze dirt paths. Later in the morning we visited Haad Thong beach. This was quiet and fairly clean, but no chance of snorkeling here as visibility is almost non existent. In the afternoon we rode down to Bann Haad Rin, we spent about an hour on Haad Rin Nok (sunshine beach). This had many bars restaurants on it-it’s also where the full moon party takes place. ... read more
