Annyeong haseyo!! So I'm getting less homesick these days and embracing being here more each day :). Although I still miss everyone so much (but I'm lucky that I miss you all so much because it means that I have an amazing life filled with incredibly wonderful people ;)). So I wanted to include a few interesting and or funny things about my hospital experience... First of all my co teacher informed me that I would have to bring my own chopsticks and spoon to the hospital (thought that was interesante). Everyone ended up being super nice at the hospital- one of the male nurses held my hand for a few moments before surgery :*)... after the anesthesia started taking affect the anesthesiologist pinched my leg and asked "can you feel?" and I said no and ... read more

Soooooo the title is an inside joke with my Sis and the other 100 people I've shared that joke with ;) But also is relevant to Korea because instead of saying, "Blah blah blah" they so "mo mo mo" haha... I love the little coinkidinks of life :):)... Anyhoo, so I wrote in the last blog (which none of you got an email about because I hadn't put all your emails in yet, so check it out) about getting a healthy dose of octopus juice on my foot.... let me explain further... Lara, Cedric, and I were at Jagalchi market (largest seafood market in Korea) and right before we were about to depart the market I stepped in some "Jagalchi-mud" (never wear sandals to Jagalchi market- like you should never wear sandals to TJ) and it ... read more

So Lara, Danielle, Savana, and I went to dinner last night and tried a new kind of meat.... It tasted kind of like ham and was served in a huge black pumpkin... It was actually quite tasty although I only ate a few bites because I was weirded out. So, so far in Korea, I have eaten octopus and after last night, dog. Don't knock it til you try it! haha Sorry to all of you dog lovers out there!! I don't think I will ever eat it again, even though it was kind of delicious, it's just not for me. After dinner we took the dog for a walk around the town and Lara and I ran through the fountain (the same fountain as the pics from the first blog entry) and got soaked! Although ... read more

So today was another fabulous day at work... kids were awesome and lessons went well- I had three third grade classes today and I made up my own activity - I drew a replica of the picture of "Minsu, Mina", and a grocery store person in the grocery store but then added things that were not in the original pic :) The kids liked it and it got them talkin' :). Then Lara and I (my new friend and travel buddy- she's from San Diego and we met at the orientation last Tuesday) went to dinner at this really yummy place near my house. We then decided to take a walk and we just happened to walk near my school and so we (I, haha... and she agreed) thought it would be fun to go on ... read more

Well it seems as thought Korea has managed to skip spring entirely this year. The weather went from cloudy, rainy, cold and winter-coat wearing one week to short sleeves, endless sunshine and soaring temperatures! And no one is complaining here!! Once we got off the high from our family's visit, life quickly went back to normal here. The weekend of April 24-5 was a big weekend of festivals in Yangsan. Firstly was the Gyeongnam province Sports Festival which features mostly university-aged athletes in over 20 different sports competing for a chance to represent the province at nationals. We went to check out the taekwondo, on the suggestion of our master, in hopes of learning some good sparring techniques. These athletes were amaaaaazing! There is no way we can do close to the moves they can do, ... read more

Our thoughts on Korea! On April 19th we arrived back from Korea, uneventfully, unlike our trip over to Korea. We had a wonderful time and the highlight of the trip was seeing Michael and Danielle of course as it had been about 7 months ago that they left on their Korean adventure. A little intimidated at first, but excited to have the opportunity for such a cultural experience. April 8th - finally left Detroit, after sitting on the plane for 2 hours as they were fixing the cargo door. Consequently, we missed our connecting flight to Busan from Tokyo. The airline arranged a flight to Seoul, a stay at a hotel, and our flight the next morning to Busan. So instead of Friday evening, we arrived early Saturday eagerly expecting to be greeted by Mike & ... read more

Hello everyone!! We are sad to report that our wonderful visit with the Smith/Mayberry's has come to an end and they are safely back in our homeland (well, we are happy about that part!). Our recap of their trip will appear shortly, along with their thoughts and impressions of their wild whirlwind trip! And of course, lots of beautiful pictures! In the meantime, I wanted to tell the story of what happened yesterday at school. I (Danielle) teach an after-school class 2 days a week for high level English students. In this class I have a great group of girls that love speaking English and are a pleasure to teach. They love to ask me questions about everything, and Mike is often a topic of our discussions. They wanted to meet him so badly because one ... read more

As the rhyme goes, it should be April showers which bring us May flowers, but in Korea, it seems to be March showers (and it has rained a lotttttttt here this month) that bring the wonderous cherry blossoms in April. While Toronto has experienced the first ever March with no snow recorded, Yangsan has seen almost double the amount of rain that they are used to! What a year to choose to be out of the country. Last weekend was the 40th International Kite Flying Festival in Busan at Dadaepo Beach. We thought it might be cool to check so we gathered a group of eager foreigners and went to the beach to see the spectacle. Well, to say the Festival was exciting would be wrong. There were some cool kites, some so humongous, colourful and ... read more
