So for my 27th birthday I did a temple stay and it was pretty amazing, although it wasn't what I expected. I anticipated a relaxing and thoughtful "vacation" where I would meditate and reflect on life :). What the reality of temple stay is is the day in the life of a monk, which was great, but definitely not what I expected. On Saturday we got a tour of Beomeosa temple - which is one of the most famous temples in Korea, which is beautiful! Then we had dinner - white rice, "panchan"(the side dishes-lots of veggies), cabbage/bean paste soup - so mashisoyo! (delicious). After we ate we had to clean our bowls with a slice of radish, haha. you put some hot water in your rice bowl and use your chopstick to push around the ... read more

I'm back in Korea and it was pretty sad to leave all my wonderful family and friends but I am happy now that I am here :). The title of this entry comes from the first morning I woke up in America and walked into the kitchen and thought, "where's my rice???" I went out that day and bought some ;). I definitely eat rice every day here and at almost every meal. And that's they way I like it (uh huh uh huh) (yes I did). Ooohh, speaking of things that I like... I really like how I don't care so much about what others think of me or what I do and I feel like I got from living here (quote to follow) - I loooove my coteacher and she has taught me to ... read more

Soooooo I can walk!!!!!!!!!! :D!! yey!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! the six weeks didn't go by too slow but the last few days have been really challenging :/ but I made it and everything worked out- like it always does :). I feel such a magnificent sense of liberation and I am so excited that my exploration of Korea will again commence in the next weeks and months :D. I hope that I always remember to be grateful for and excited about the plethora of wonderful gifts that life has bestowed upon me - among those gifts are a healthy body and mind :) as well as the immaculate Earth that I get to experience -even be thankful for the sad times and hardships because those times have the ability to bring new growth and new appreciation of all the ... read more

Annyeong haseyo!! So I'm getting less homesick these days and embracing being here more each day :). Although I still miss everyone so much (but I'm lucky that I miss you all so much because it means that I have an amazing life filled with incredibly wonderful people ;)). So I wanted to include a few interesting and or funny things about my hospital experience... First of all my co teacher informed me that I would have to bring my own chopsticks and spoon to the hospital (thought that was interesante). Everyone ended up being super nice at the hospital- one of the male nurses held my hand for a few moments before surgery :*)... after the anesthesia started taking affect the anesthesiologist pinched my leg and asked "can you feel?" and I said no and ... read more

Soooooo the title is an inside joke with my Sis and the other 100 people I've shared that joke with ;) But also is relevant to Korea because instead of saying, "Blah blah blah" they so "mo mo mo" haha... I love the little coinkidinks of life :):)... Anyhoo, so I wrote in the last blog (which none of you got an email about because I hadn't put all your emails in yet, so check it out) about getting a healthy dose of octopus juice on my foot.... let me explain further... Lara, Cedric, and I were at Jagalchi market (largest seafood market in Korea) and right before we were about to depart the market I stepped in some "Jagalchi-mud" (never wear sandals to Jagalchi market- like you should never wear sandals to TJ) and it ... read more

So Lara, Danielle, Savana, and I went to dinner last night and tried a new kind of meat.... It tasted kind of like ham and was served in a huge black pumpkin... It was actually quite tasty although I only ate a few bites because I was weirded out. So, so far in Korea, I have eaten octopus and after last night, dog. Don't knock it til you try it! haha Sorry to all of you dog lovers out there!! I don't think I will ever eat it again, even though it was kind of delicious, it's just not for me. After dinner we took the dog for a walk around the town and Lara and I ran through the fountain (the same fountain as the pics from the first blog entry) and got soaked! Although ... read more

So today was another fabulous day at work... kids were awesome and lessons went well- I had three third grade classes today and I made up my own activity - I drew a replica of the picture of "Minsu, Mina", and a grocery store person in the grocery store but then added things that were not in the original pic :) The kids liked it and it got them talkin' :). Then Lara and I (my new friend and travel buddy- she's from San Diego and we met at the orientation last Tuesday) went to dinner at this really yummy place near my house. We then decided to take a walk and we just happened to walk near my school and so we (I, haha... and she agreed) thought it would be fun to go on ... read more
