WOW, I am alive. I guess, after a year of complaining about monentenous drudgery and the lack of feeling alive, I've definately begun to receive what I've been missing...in large doses. It's currently 2:12 am local time; 12:12pm back home and I feel really odd. I'm sitting in a love motel because apparently my new apartment won't be ready until Saturday...more on the hotel in a minute. I've slept about 7 hours total over the past 2 days, and I guess you can say, at least, that I feel weird. I thought I would be feeling tired, and even though my body hasnt had much rest, it still feels like noon right now. The trip itself went smoothly. The culture shock moved in a sort of sequential fashion. From Toronto to Tokyo there were a handful ... read more

I finished my teachers' training course for enhancement of teaching skills of elementary school science on August 12th. on last Friday, we, teachers(40members in my class) went to watch flowers, plants and trees in Dae-gu citizen garden. It was a kind of field trip for teachers to have an opportunity to group and make a distinction between many plants and many trees by eyes. in this garden, I saw many beautiful flowers, greenery and tall trees. It was a good place to take a rest or take a walk for refreshment. I shoot some flowers that I am very fond of in this garden. On last weekend(Aug. 8th), I went to my father's house in my hometown, Gunwi. some flowers bloomed in my father's house yard and I enjoyed some dwarfed trees that new neighbor ... read more

Hello Y'all It's already December which I find to be so crazy that that amount of time has past. I met a wonderful woman here named Ava, she is from Hawaii and emailed me after reading these blogs. We met up a few weekends ago and hit it off fabulously. I am very happy and fortunate to have met a wonderful lady like her. She invited me to join her at a Thanksgiving potluck dinner last Sunday, there were many foreign teachers there and most are working at universities which is what I plan on doing next year (hopefully). I found it refreshing to meet some people closer to my own age, I had much more in common with them and really look forward to seeing the rest of the city with people on the same ... read more

Hey Y'all, I just published a blog I started weeks ago and thought I had better get in a better habit of writing these. I returned the puppy to the strange man at his club, I culd not get out of there fast enough, let me tell you. Halloween was just around the corner and also my birthday. That week at school was highly stressful, the director is not the most organized person in the world, but everything went quite well and the kids had a great time. We all went out on my birthday, to a Nauribong, which is a bar where you get your own private room and can sing Keroake with all your friends, that was a blast. We smuggle a whole bunch of Soju in with us and sang our little hearts ... read more

Hello Y'all, Ok here I go. I have had a very interesting few weeks, including a very strange occurrance that happened to me two Saturdays ago. I was walking down the street with three of the other teachers, we stopped at the 7-11 to sit and have a bevie and a chat before we decided where to go for dinner. A man came walking up with the most adorable puppy I have ever seen. As we were all fawning over it, he handed it to me and entered the store, I was enamoured, of course with the puppy and when he came out the pup had fallen asleep cuddled in close to my neck. We chatted with the man for a few minutes and when I handed the puppy back to him he started singing "you ... read more

My coworker, Jason Hwang, was married in the Daegu Airport Hotel Wedding Hall in February. This was the second Korean wedding I've attended - the first being Yong Hoon, a member of the MoonKkang (my company) reinforcement team - a group of guys who help out the foreigners with medical issues, apartment problems and Visa/resident concerns. The two weddings were very similar, and, as people have told me, typical accounts of Korean weddings. The wedding hall was made up of two or three large rooms reserved for different weddings and two other huge eateries with Korean buffets. In the wedding rooms, there is a stage with candles, a piano, a podium and a table for the cake. The audience sits on metal chairs in, maybe, twenty rows of seven chairs each, and a great many people ... read more
