I think we left around 7:30 and we drove for a couple of hours. We arrived at Taean and headed to the beach. We went to Sambong Beach. It's a nice beach and I had been here previously, last summer when we came to Taean and Anmyeon-do. We had good weather and we spent about an hour to an hour and a half wandering along the beach. There were a few people on the beach, but it was really quite empty. We walked along the beach, looking at all the little crabs that were scurrying about, I'm sure I accidentally scrunched a few under my boots, sorry little crabbies! There were also some beautiful shells and The walk was going well, until we hit a spot of water that was flowing down the beach to the ... read more

Hello again! So about a month ago Jonathan and I were taken to a national park on the coast of our province, Chungnam-do by Suk and Mi wa (Jonathan’s co teacher and old co- teacher, who we are now referring to as our Korean family). We had a jam packed day of fun stuff. We left at the ungodly hour of 6 am in order to beat the rush to this marine national park. The park was hosting a flower festival and it was all the rage. We got there at 8 and it was pretty busy. There were line ups to see flower exhibitions. I felt like we were at an amusement park. We quickly learned that all the cool flower displays were outside and as usual waiting in lines is for suckers. I think ... read more

The route wound through the small roads of the biggish island between rice paddies and small gardens, every now and then opening out onto the white sandy coast. On one of the maps I saw a photo of a long white beach with two rocky offshore islands. The photo looked strangely familiar, so we found directions to the beach, which was called Kkotji. The view really was beautiful and the rocky islands made a beautiful horizon. The beach itself was covered is shells, and didn't look all that comfortable to sleep on, but next to the beach was a big park that had been built for some ... read more

So you've had enough. You've just finished teaching hundreds of Korean kids for 6 days in a row and the one thing that's kept you going is the though of a 3 day weekend. Finally it's here. With Cathy taking the lead and doing all the planning for this trip I'm completely ing the dark. All I know is we're off to the coast. And that's good enough for me. We both decided that after our tough hiking weekend we were rather looking for peace and relaxation. Feeling a bit more Seoul-wise these days, we managed to catch a bus down to the leeetle town of Seosan without much trouble. Here we found the one reason for stopping, a fantastic old fortress from the 1400's that has been carefully restored. Wandering around the old buildings and ... read more
