Sunday 2-27 to Tuesday 3-1 Off to another Nepali World Heritage Sight – this one, a natural one. (Sadly) We left Tiffany in Hetauda and headed toward Chitwan National Park, where I immediately started coughing and sneezing. Turns out, it’s controlled burn season in Chitwan and a lot of the forest was smoldering while we were there, so the sky was raining ash and it drove my sinuses nuts. Nick found us a beautiful bungalow hotel right along the river and we had an endless supply of fresh, hot, absolutely delicious Nepali tea whenever we wanted it! Seriously, this was amazingly good tea! No offense Thailand; I love you and I love your thai iced tea, but this was even better, if that can be believed! Nick Note: No way, Nepali tea is great but thai ... read more

After My trek in the Annapurna's I arrived in Pokhara, where im (more or less ) a bit stuck. The First week was just relaxing, but then came the feeling that I had to do something. So We (a guy I met during trekking) decided to go to Chitwan National Park. 3 Day's of Wild safari, canoein, bird watching (Not a single bird I saw), a jungle forest walk, was nice but again no wild life, Elephant ride, mixed feelings, but I did see a rino and a deer. And last but not least, the Elephant Breeding center, where the Elephants where chained and could walk max 3 meters each way. So all mixed feelings, but the worse is that the guides and the keepers thought this was the best way for the elephants. They could ... read more

Chitwan NP! Finally the time arrived to go to Chitwan Np! Early morning (06.15am) walking with our backpacks on through Thamel to find our bus on the side of a street!! Interesting but no problems at all!! Smooth bus ride again!! Our bus was smooth.. some vehicles that weren’t that lucky!! 4 cars, busses, trucks where upside down on the road and that in a space of say 100 kilometers!! We booked a “package” with Sapana Village Lodge (www.sapanalodge.com) for 5 days/ 4 nights! Packed with excitement!! Arriving in Sauraha we got picked up with a jeep at the busstop..Really nice to expierence..Cause normally we have to find our own way. But it was all organised really well! Sapana Lodge was overwhelming for us... It's quiet with all little sitting areas everywhere..The room we got was ... read more

I arrive in Rampur Chitwan, by bus, leaving Rosslyn who is going back to Kathmandu. I will be going to live with a host family for a week in a village just outside of the Rampur. I arrive and the family is there waiting. They serve tea and get me settled. There is the father, Bahnu, mother, Bisnamoya, daughter-in-law, Radha, and her son, Prithak. Her husband, their son, is working in Qatar for 6 months but will be coming home soon, probably end of November. While they introduce themselves by their names, for the rest of my stay, they will refer to me and each other by their relationships: sister, mother, father, brother. I will continually be called, sister by both the daughter-in-law and the mother. They live in a nice farmhouse with the bathrrom/shower, three ... read more

After a bit of repacking and post trek binge eating,we were ready to leave the dusty streets of Kathmandu and head for greener pastures. Our destination for a bit of relaxation was Pokhara. A small lakeside town with views of the Annapurna Ranges. It felt like a million miles away from Kathmandu and was exactly the sort of place where we needed to chill out for a bit. As it turned out, it was lucky that we arranged to stay here for nearly a week because we both picked up colds and didn't feel like doing much at all. The only activities we did were taking boat out on the lake for a three hour paddle and visiting a few museums. The rest of the time was spent eating, sleeping and catching up with our friends ... read more

It had been a long time dream of mine to travel to Lhasa and go into the Potala Palace. My husband Maurice and I traveled to Bangkok for a Lions International Convention and I grabbed at the chance to visit Lhasa. But at that time, 2008, Tibet was closed to visitors, so I traveled to Nepal figuring that this might be a little like Tibet. Patti, Greg and I had a wonderful time in Nepal. We took books and school supplies and told our tour guide to find us a school. Every couple of days we would remind him that he needed to find us a school, any school, anywhere! With only one day left, Raj, our guide did better than find us a school, he took us to a Christian orphanage with about 200 ... read more
