So I've escaped from the big city of KL for a few days and gone to the Cameron Highlands. This is an absolutely beautiful place with rolling hills covered with jungle foliage and tea plantations. After taking a tour of a tea plantation this morning, I've become a bit disillusioned with flavoured tea. This stuff is the bottom of the barrel - its tea dust in a bag and infused flavours are added to cover up the taste of nothing! I think I'm going to have some real tea this afternoon with scones and locally made strawberry jam. ... read more

With that title I'm sure you're thinking this girl complains a lot for someone who just escaped -20 degree temperatures. True, however, the stickyness is not pleasant. So to recap the last few days... New Years was spent at a british pub surrounded by genuine ex-patriots and terrible 80s music. You would think something better went on in LA but not on the 3rd street promenade unless you wanted to pay $30 cover for some sleazy bar. The 18 hour flight was decent. There were advantages to being seated in the 2nd last row of the plane(row 62 to be precise) - great access to the bathrooms, first to get your food, etc. I find it funny that international flights are particular about first and economy class. If you're first class you get to board through ... read more

I can't believe its December already and I have been on the road for nearly 4 weeks now. India already seems a long way away and I do miss it, all the challenges and the people and the mice, but it is good to be here in Kuala Lumpa. I arrived on Saturday morning after a flight via Singapore airport. On the flight I was more than happy with Singapore airlines when they offered me some wine, after 3 weeks of just the odd beer it was very welcome - I think that's the longest I've been without wine since I left University………So I jumped at the chance of a warm glass of chardonnay, and then to complete it all I discovered a classic episode of CSI (Crime Scene Investigations - a Morrish road favourite thanks ... read more

Hello, and welcome to the world of Marita! This is a test entry. It's my first time here and I'm still finding my way around. First off, a little about me. I live on the island of Borneo, and I do a fair bit of travelling for work and for pleasure. This is where I I'd like to share my travels with you. I have yet the chance to backpack around the world, so you won't get a day by day account of my experiences with Bemo drivers or tuk tuk handlers. But I will update each time I go out of Borneo. So come away with me to adventures as yet realized!... read more

Hello all We are just about to eave KL after a busy but v enjoyable 48hrs Left Manchester on time and arrived 5mins early after a comfortable flight - not bad after 12hrs and 6000 miles. It took almost 2 hours to get from airport to KL city centre with delays of rush hour traffic made worse by the arrival of thunderstorm and torrential rain. This has been repeated daily but has not stopped us getting out and about. When it rains I realise why the kerbstones are 12" high - the roads become fast flowing rivers and your feet get wet crossing roads Went to see the usual tourist spots - Merdaka Sq. Selonga club, National Mosque and Railway station. Got caught in the rain in Chinatown yesterday at the market so ducked into ... read more
