Bus from Malacca to KL (MYR12). I'd booked this one. There were no breakdowns and it only took a couple hours but we all agreed Wayne's bus from Melakaman was better. This one smelt of cigarettes, was crowded and cramped. Wayne was stuck next to a man with a dyed beard who was not enjoying the ride. Tasha was squished behind someone who had their chair reclined even though they were sitting forward :/ and I lost my phone. The KL bus terminal was an easy train ride (5 stops on the Rawang line MYR4.50) to Kuala Lumpur station followed by a short walk across the river (aka teeming cesspit) to Hotel Geo where we were staying. The hotel is directly across the road from Central Market on the edge of Chinatown close to night markets ... read more

Here are the photos showing Petaling Street at Kuala Lumpur. Its also call Chinatown among local citizens. You can get cheap and nice food here and also cheap to shop here. The walking past of the Petaling Street is like a t shape, which might confuse you. But its alright cause there too many things to see here and it will take your whole night time of fun here. My only advice, is to wear simple clothing like casual t-shirt and shorts cause it humid with the crowd there.... read more

Tweets It was a real comfortable ride in the sleeper train to KL and seems to be a more moderate temp at 7AM. Just sitting in a White Coffee cafe across from Central station considering the next move. Just went to my reserved hotel (Chinatown Hotel) and got an early check in. KL is a 21st century city with an incredible integrated transit system. Monorail, metro and Lightrail (LRT) The most famous landmark is the Petronas Towers. My 4 days in KL were in Chinatown mostly.... read more

Ok, so this is definitely short and sweet. I flew back to Kuala Lumpur where I had 5 days back in The Backpackers Travellers Inn. Good thing it is only £2.50 per night. Reviews on Trip Advisor say bad things about this place but to be honest, I felt comfy here in the dorm rooms and it's a good place to stay if you need a stop gap when on a budget. Here I slept A LOT! Some mornings I would wake up late and others I would wake up early but then go back to sleep in the afternoon. The in between bits included eating in the local food court, hanging out with a new friend - Jess from Sweden and even when we did hang out we ate food or chatted from our bottom ... read more

Kuala Lumpur is an enormous city with a wide diversity of cultures, the main 3 being Malay, Chinese and Indian are all reflected in the food. We stayed in Chinatown amongst the lantern lit streets just at the end of the covered market and well in the mix of street food vendors. Chinatown is supposed to be one of the cheapest areas to stay but we still had to pay double our usual rate for a not so nice room which was annoying. Arriving late on night one we headed straight to the satay food stall outside our hotel. We took our pick from the 50 or so skewered delights, colour coded to indicate the price, from the buffet. Handing our selection to the bbq guy we also ordered rice and beer and sat at a ... read more

The flight to Kuala Lumpur went smoothly. The ladies and gents in red didn't let me down. I had to catch a bus into KL Sentral, to then get a LRT into Chinatown, the area where I had decided to find my hostel. Finally finding my hostel, it was a pleasure to find out it was only 12 ringett per night (£2.50). I dropped my backpack into my dorm and sat on my bed (dripping with sweat). I got chatting to a Malaysian man in my dorm, by communicating mainly by typing messages into his phone as he could read English better than speaking it. I had a few beers with him, but then he got a bit weird by telling me that it was safer to stay in my own room upstairs (I was in ... read more

Tuesday 27th Got up early as we had a bus to catch and at breakfast saw our first cockroach. A really BIG one and left the landlady to chase it round the dining room with an industrial sized spray can. Our bus ride to KL was pretty smooth and around 2 hours. We've been there before and it's grid lock city. Too much traffic, too much pollution and far too many people. I hate it. We find our next accommodation. It's an HOTEL! in China Town. A late booking and a steal at £16 for room, en -suite and breakfast. And there's hot water ! We pop round the corner and book our onward travel for later in the week (the only reason we're here) and take a short walk to the Botanic Gardens, well it ... read more

Our time in Malaysia so far seems to be flying by, and we are quickly getting to the point where we will soon be crossing over the border into Thailand to start our adventures there......however we still have our dwindling list of places here we want to visit beforehand! From Melaka we moved on up to Kuala Lumpur, which was only a quick 2 hour coach journey, and so before we knew it we were trudging the streets of KL to try and find a bed for the night. Melaka seemed to have chilled the both of us out a lot and so we had decided while we were there that we wouldn't book any hostels and we would just find somewhere to stay once we arrived.....this was probably the worst decision we could have made, ... read more

On the final day in Prachuap Khiri Khan, Thailand, I bought tickets (@ 750 Baht each) on an overnight train to Hat Yai, Thailand. We were supposed to leave at 8:00 pm, but as usual the train was an hour late. Unfortunately, the lower beds were already taken so Macayla and I were stuck in top bunks. They are quite small but adequate. There are two straps that keep you from falling out of the bunk, thank goodness. I was excited because I thought the train would lull me to sleep but that was not how it worked. Sometimes the train would jerk violently and other floor which dumps all of the waste onto the tracks below. Very sanitary!! It is an odd sensation while sitting on the pot to have air blowing up onto your ... read more

Hello Malaysia

With Elysia's eye still red and painful, we had a bit of a leisurely last morning in KL. We didn't feel so pressed to see things here, because they're not all that different from home. Don't get me wrong, we really do like KL. It's worth seeing even just to realize that there are some super modern cities in Asia that are not a whole lot different than those in North America. We think that KL would be a great place to live as an ex-pat, and we would definitely add it to the list of places we may want to live one day. Just in terms of major sightseeing venues, there isn't a whole lot. Unless you want to shop- KL is a shopping mecca. I highly suggest that if you do like to shop, ... read more
