On the flight into Dubai I was met with a marvellous sight, the cityscape with its skyscrapers was facing me and as it was sunrise they all were covered in a golden glow. Towering above all of them was the Burj Khalifa, the tallest building in the world.I’m not a big fan of Dubai but that sight was enough to change my mind (for a minute at least). I caught around an hours kip on the flight which meant that I’d lost virtually a whole nights sleep, that combined with the time difference meant that I arrived at the Hostel at 23:30 in a very tired state but wasn’t ready to bed so I headed off to the off-license for a few beers to help me sleep. Malaysia is very cheap for backpackers but the one ... read more

I appologize for the start of this but I'm feeling a bit philisophical. What is important to people can define how they live their lives. It is easy to say people value money. From what I have observed, people only value money as a means to an end. Furthermore, those who value money for itself, rarely get any. At home the US Government has, since the beginning, provided its people with an ideal about what is important. A good American seeks the "American Dream," a nice cared for home, no need to want for food and clothes, a good job and a safe place to raise a family. Since the inception of this dream things have shifted to allow for other wants, but the underlying needs have remained. In Malaysia, I have yet to see any ... read more

HAPPY NEW YEAR! I will be celebrating New Year exactly 8hrs ahead of the UK. Therefore I think 2 celebrations are in order. 1 for Malaysia and one for UK. This evening myself and Maher are heading to KLCC or best known at the Petronas Twin Towers to most. There is a firework display in the gardens there. Given that it is the largest attraction in KL, I am anticipating a very large crowd. 2012 has been a really good year. I left the UK back in the summer and set out on a adventure, and what an adventure it has been. There have been highs and lows. Places I have fallen in love with and places I found hard to travel through due to the sheer poverty of the place (Cambodia being the main country ... read more

Opening scene: Poorly prepared backpackers caught in an unexpected downpour walking along a road in Singapore, Singapore looking for their hostel. Just as they were reaching the shelter of a bus stop-BOOM- a bus wizzes by and sends a wave of street water crashing over me.. oh I mean her… nope. This is how my holiday with my mom started! And with good cheer we trudged on through the rain because we were already wet from the bus wave. Pura Vida. Luckily this was the only time we ran into rain on our 2 and a half week journey. The blaring contrast of Singapore to Hanoi (where I’ve spent the last 6 months living) was incredible and surreal that I was actually here. By far one of the most incredible cities I’ve had the pleasure ... read more

As I am sure the computers and networks will be busy over the Christmas and New Year period I thought I would take this opportunity to wish you all a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year. To all my family and friends; you will be in my thoughts over the holidays and forever in my heart. I will be spending my holidays here in KL. It's Christmas Eve here now and after an evening in Bukit Bintang seeing all the decorations and all, I'm feeling in the Christmas spirit. Love to all xxx... read more

First things first. I leave KL on the 6th january to Singapore and then fly to Cairns on the 9th January 2013. I have decided to get there a little earlier so I can perhaps join a group tour of Western Australia before I seek work in Queensland. As most of you know, I came down with a bad virus over 7 days ago. I felt unwell in penang but became very unwell on arriving back in KL. One of the guys in my dorm (from Switzerland) called for one of the staff, Maher, and I ended up spending the evening at the general hospital. A few blood tests later and they decided I had Dengue fever. I was sent away with a bag full of medication and told to rest. Not getting an better, in ... read more

After beeing jumped into the pool, refreshed myself and had lunch I might tell you what was happening later... After a lot of people started complaining that I'm only writing in german (hello my mothertongue is german!) I thought I should do you all a favor (yes look how nice I am) and write one travelblog in english! it won't be quite the same for my vocabulary is not the widest in this language... We left lovely Bali (unfortunately because we had a wonderful time there doing nothing!!) for Singapore! Well maybe I should just list for a few seconds our little trip so far. From Bangkok we travelled to Koh Chang which supposed to be one of the most beautiful island including beaches -> well it was not! In fact it was the most uglyest ... read more

This is a very quick update, as things are likely to go a little quiet on the blog front for a while... I am back in KL. I took the morning bus over here upon leaving Malacca and am glad to be back. Also, Abish, our Indian friend is back so our little 'crew' is growing again. :-) The day after I checked in myself, Mill and another Iranaian guy headed out to KLCc (petronas Towers) and the lads ended up having a go on this malay lads guitar. I have to say in all honesty, they were terrible! haha Anyway, I plan to be here a little while to spend time with Mill and have no real plans to move on just yet, although I will make a few trip maybe back towards penang and ... read more

We had one day to spend Kuala Lumpur. Having been here before we weren't inclined to spend it looking at the same things we had seen last time. For breakfast we wandered around Petaling Street and China Town to find something on offer. We need not have worried there was a myriad of choices and of course we settled on Asian. Congee with chicken, chilli noodles and coffee. The congee and noodles were absolutely delicious. Chinatown is a fascinating place and exploring it took a good part of the morning. Little shops sell anything you can imagine and not all directed at the tourit dollar. I know of one young lady who would have delighted in the shop that sold hair ties and headbands in every colour and style imaginable. We had a wander throught the ... read more
