Just catching up on stuff since our last internet connection died on us after typing a long entry... January 28th: Woke up early to go to the Petronas Twin Towers but got there and found out they are not open for viewing on Mondays. We walked around the attached mall a little bit and took advantage of their "premium" bathrooms at a price of RM2 to get in. It was spectacular! They even provided toilet paper and paper towels! Next we took a stroll through the lovely park and playground behind the Twin Towers building. They had some really cool play equipment there but when we got on the teeter toter, a cop blew her whistle at us and signaled for us to get off. I personally think she was bored and just wanted something to ... read more

We also visited the batu caves just north of Kuala Lupur. We were lucky because the night we got in was the last night of the thaipusam festival. This is a hindu festival where devotees give thanks for the blessings they've had thoughout the year. What was different about this was they'd perform pain inflicting tasks like carrying milk pots attached to their head with spikes or huge cages decorated with peacock feathers up 272 steps to a hindu shrine in the batu caves. We saw some people almost fainting as they go up the stairs. Apparently they go in a trance like state that prevents them from feeling pain. The custom is actually banned in India. stef and I climb the stairs to the top. It wasn't a bad climb except for the heat and ... read more

Went back ... read more
