Well, we got to koh Samui and kind of got stuck!!! Nothing bad, we are just having a fab time here so why move on? We are staying at a little place called silver sands which is a hut by the beach although we arent in the one actually on the beach front. We got ac and hot water, the roof in the bathroom in clear corrugated plastic with palm trees swaying above where you shower. The best thing about Samui is probably a hostel/bar/restaurant called the wave which is run by two brits who are very friendly and provide great food and company even though they were full when we arrived. We have a regular table and have become part of the furniture. The beach is TOTALLY beautiful especially when the sun shines which is ... read more

We arrived at 9am after abus/boat journey from khao san road...booked the VIP bus and high speed ferry there and all was fine despite the warnings from many travel books! In fact we booked the trip, diving (which inc accommodation) all in one place just outside Rambuttri Village Inn where we were staying and everything was in order. Have spent 4 days here while kids became PADI open water divers which they throughly enjoyed, We used a place called Crystal Dive Resort because someone in Kanchanaburi had reccommended it and they really are great people! I meanwhile have mastered a tan and read 4 books in 4 days, not bad, hey! Not much to say really but the pics I hope i can add should give you all an idea of what it is like here... ... read more

Well off we set at the unearthly hour of 7 am (dont they know we're on holiday???) A long, boring drive which culminated at the ww2 memorial ground, kids NOT impressed. I was astounded to see how touristy the town had become in the last 18 years but we walked swiftly past the hawkers and walked across the bridge only to be called off coz a train was approaching. Much to gabs' dismay however you can stay on the bridge to the side of the train but mother who follows rules had already hearded her off. Very HORRID (your word Jacob!) to think of all the men who died on the very spot we were stood on all those years ago, killed by their own army! We all felt a bit wierd but the throngs of ... read more

Hello all, it has taken a few days to get into the swing of things again but here goes... Eight hour delay on Etihad on the way out here! Cheap nonsense!! They did put us up in a hotel though so not too many complaints I guess. It did however mean that we had to arrive on Khao san at 4 am which was a bit unnerving. The backpackers we had booked was off the beaten track so I went up to some guys sat in a bar and asked where they would recommend... much to my surprise they suggested somewhere on a street nearby...unheard of in my day, Khao san was just one little road 18 years ago but not any more my friends, it goes on and on and on now! We found a ... read more

This is back dated but I think we all agree worth writing coz this was our fav place overall. I have had enough with out dated computers on beautiful islands... this is taking forever! Well we ended up on Perhentian Besar (big island) but the place we wanted to stay at was full so we went to another bay and stayed at a place called FLORA BAY. Our hut was basic but v cute with 2 kingsize beds and ac... food was good and hammocks were plentiful. Saw nemos for the first time snorkelling just in the bay. Eventually moved to COCOHUTS which jay had chosen before we left DXB and that was a real success, I met a teacher from Canada so had someone to chat to whilst the kids went DIVING. It was ... read more

3 hours in a boat upstream...murky brown mud all around and the most amazing trees towering above us on both sides!!! Taman Negara the Guscotts have arrived. Only thing that spoiled it was the noise of the boat engine but at least the view was astounding. First afternoon we went on a trip to visit the natives, ORANG ASLI, where we learned how to make fire and Jay scored a bulls eye with a blow pipe (yes, we bought one and are now travelling around with one). Have to say the 'village' was a little fake but it was lovely to meet the locals...had a laugh with one guy coz they were so amazed at how similar Jay was to them facially, not sure they knew where Jamaica was! Jungle night trek had to be ... read more

Tonight we are in a dead end town called JERANTUT, on the way to the rainforest. We left Kl and caught a local air con bus to what we thought was the elephant sanctuary but it was an hour away so we ended up getting a taxi driver to take us there and wait then bring us to ... the edge of nowhere. Gary, its a bit like some of the dead end places we stayed in India on the way down from Nepal, BORING! But times have moved on, we got ac room and INTERNET cafe. No pics today coz we forgot the attachment in hotel. I will pass you to G and J to describe the elephant experience... Hi its G it was so cool in the elephant sanctury. The baby elephants ate peanuts ... read more

Hi its Gabi (Dani's daughter), So we all went on the bus to go to different places in KL. First we got off at the National Museum, we got there and we found it was a very small place (uh oh). We all got frustrated because none of the receptionists could talk English! After we wondered around there we went down the path and saw there were more people goin in this particular building. We were on our way when Jayson and I found an ancient Malay house. First of all we went and took some photos of me and Jayson next to it. Inside there was a bridal chamber (it looked like there had just been a wedding)! There were alot of different fruits in there. Next we went down the path (at this ... read more
