Friday, 27th August 2010 I met up with KW at 12.40pm this afternoon at Kranji Station to kick-start our Johor Bahru (JB) breakaway. Since today was a weekday, boarding service 170 to bring us to Malaysia and clearing the customs formalities were fuss free and smooth. By 1.20pm, 2 of us were already at the City Square Shopping Mall which was connected to the new CIQ Complex via an overhead linkbridge. Lunch Stop: Nando's Chicken @ City Square Each of us ordered a quarter portion of the Peri Peri Chicken which came with 2 selections of side dishes. I took the potato salad and coleslaw. Both sides were more on the creamy side even though the chicken tasted succulent and grilled to perfection. I had reason to believe that fresh chicken was used in the cooking ... read more

I just came back from Desaru, malaysia. Stayed in this hotel called Purai Desaru. It was a nice and quiet place. just 10+km away from Singapore where i lived. The place requires some renovation as it is pretty run down. Other than that, the service is quite good. The price there is not that expensive. Per night stay is about RM 330 for Deluxe room for a week end stay over. We drove in from Singapore to desaru using their expressway number 3, before turning to exit 92 and exit 90. Always leave early on a Saturday , if you were to drive along the causeway if not u will end up in severe jam in JB. We left singapore at 1245hr and only arrive at 1545hr. The journey should take less than 1.5hr Indeed, on ... read more

This morning we are in Mersing; Johor Bahru, on our way back down to Singapore for tonight. After our stay in Kuala Tahan in Taman Negara, we made our way over to the East coast of Malaysia to start making our way down to Singapore again. Our first stop was Teluk Chempedak, a beautiful little coastal resort-like town, next to Kuantan. Unfortunately, on the way there, Paul got hit with his first (and hopefully only?) bout of food poisoning and thus had a horrible trip to Chempedak and 2 days hopping from toilet to toilet. Teluk Chempedak was a gorgeous place! Beautiful beaches and big smooth boulders, surrounded by jungle and rainforest, but on closer inspection, like most of Malaysia as we've found, it was dirty and smelly. Rubbish strewn everywhere, open sewers that give off ... read more

At this point we have been in Malaysia for over 10 days and South-East Asia for more than 2 weeks. I am proud to say that I have yet to need to use a squat toilet. This is a great success. The Singapore/Malaysia border must be one of the easiest borders to cross in the world. You can go by pretty much any mode of transport you can think, including city buses, long distance buses, trains, ferrys and i believe it is the only border in the world which can be crossed via taxi. The best option for us was to take the city bus across the border to the long distance bus terminal in Johor Bahru, the southern tip of peninsular Malaysia. Just the 2.40$ bus fare takes us to the Singapore immigration building, where ... read more

Hey-o Just a quick post to kick of the reincarnation of my travel blogging. No time for anything in depth so just a brief out line of where i am in case there is anyone left out there who is worrying about me. Me and Yumi left Aus on the 7th. Arrived in Singapore and stayed for four days. Today we crossed the border and are in Peninsular Malaysia. We're currently in a smallish town called Mersing on the East Coast. So far Singapore and Malaysia have been great. Pretty full on at times but people are generally friendly and the food is incredible, especially in Singapore. That's all I got now. I'll do a proper update as soon as, but time and internets are more scarce than i expected. Later... ... read more

Friday 4 June 2010 It has been another frustrating few days. We don’t know where the days go but they seem to be taken up by waiting for the good news and getting over the bad news. The good news as I write this week’s blog input is that we are no longer in Kuala Lumpur. We received the good news, finally, on Tuesday afternoon that customs at Port Klang had accepted that we had got permission to drive on Malaysian roads, we had insurance and we had a Carnet that we could use to import and export the car into this country. So Wednesday morning, John and I set off for the final time from our hotel, where we had got to know the staff very well, and headed with our bags to Central Station ... read more

So much for the easy traveling we mentioned before....when leaving Kuala Lumpur we missed our bus to Mersing and ended up legging it round KL in 38 degrees heat trying to find a different bus station...with our amazing language skills we got a bus to Kulang (a random city not even in the guide book) and from there we eventually made it to the coast just in time to miss the last boat to Tioman! Hence a night in the worst hostel possible where randomly a guy from Jersey was staying (cant get away from those crappos!) The following morning we made it to Tioman and spent a week relaxing in the sun (or more like in the air con room!) and swimming. We stayed in Salang, advertised as the "party place" of the island but ... read more

Yogyakartasta matka jatkui bromolle. Bromo, tuo luontoaidin uljas tekele, mahtava tulivuori, indonesian etna. Paastiin myos katselemaan tulivuoren kraateria, oli jees, vaikka transport-h... read more
