Danny arrived to Narita International Airport in Tokyo after a really long flight, but was ready to explore from the moment he got off the plane. After meeting up with him at Shin-Urayasu train station, I took him to dinner at one of our favorite restaurants: Saizyeria! Saizyeria has all kinds of western-like, Italian food, and I especially like the glasses of wine for 99 yen each! After dinner, I took him to my small, studio apartment at E-Village and gave him a tour....which obviously didn't take too long! Then I gave him a belated birthday gift, we hung out with Larry for a little while, and then rested up for the long, busy week together we were planning to have. The next morning I had to work early until mid-afternoon, and Larry was also working, ... read more

First of all, I want to thank everyone who is keeping up with me(Libba, Mrs. Rumph, Rachel, Jim, etc..) and for the messages, and I want to apologize for being so late with my posts. Ok. So the big news is that I'm finally done with classes. As of this moment, I believe I'm aiming for a A and 2 B's. Not the best, but it will actually raise my GPA a bit. Unfortunately, I won't find out about my grades until I return in August. Today was our last final. We started Technical Japanese two weeks ago and finished it today. Imagine taking an entire 14 week course in the period of 2 weeks. Pretty rushed. We also took a mock Japanese Proficiency test so we can monitor our improvement since we took a similar ... read more

Dec 30 - So... Tokyo! It was a madhouse! All those people at 5 am! (That was when we arrived) We arrived at Shinjuku and i arranged to meet Ayako at around 7 am in the Tokyo Metropolitan Building. We met and she took me to this temple in Harajuku because all the stores open at 11. Harajuku is a shopping district for young people and the prices are pretty reasonable, but because i was saving up for my trip i didnt buy anything. hohum. Ayako also took me to Shibuya another shopping district and I met Sophie there to discuss our travel plans for going back to Osaka. Later on Ayako and I went to Asakusa to see a small temple with the giant red lantern and then we met Kathleen (atenean student studying in ... read more

Man, I must have eaten something funky, cause I feel green. If you end up in a Japanese McDonald’s don’t get the Big Mac with the egg on top or the DBC. Blarg. It’s pretty much been business as usual around home and campus. I’m constantly reminded of the fact that I have no money and no business going into Tokyo—or pretty much going into any store for that matter. Yesterday Dane and I went into a Fair Trade coffee shop in Harajuku, and ended up paying 630yen apiece ($6.00) for a regular cup of joe. As much as I like fair trade, I don’t six dollars like it. As for Harajuku, it’s quite the interesting place. It is the center of Japanese trend and fashion. Every Sunday is a big deal there as high school ... read more

Saturday was the last day with my mom and Aunt Heather. It was up to me to give them a whirlwind tour of Tokyo's major sites. I re-traced most of the steps that Rusty and I had taken on Monday. First stop was the Imerial Palace Gardens. This time the gardens were open so we were able to go inside. it was another extremely hot and sunny day. The gardens were a nice, relaxing visit with ponds and flower gardens surrounded by the high, stone walls of the palace. We walked across the grounds again to take pictures at the bridge and of the palace. Then it was off to Asakusa and Senso-ji temple, then to Ueno to Ameyhoko Market for lunch. We had lunch at a traditional Japanese tatami-matted restaurant where we had to sit ... read more

So, this morning I got up and decided I was going to go and check out an area of Tokyo called Ueno. (It sounds like Way-no when pronounced properly...If you were wondering how to say it) Anyways, I took the train for about 45 minutes and then I was there. I went on a Saturday so things were alot busier. Weekends here in Japan tend to be on the crazy side but my days off are usually Saturday and Sunday so I'm used to it. Well, when I got off the train I was not too sure where exactly I was going, so I started to wander down some streets and stumbled upon the Ameyoko Market. It is said to be one of Tokyo's liveliest markets. When I read about the market in my tour book ... read more
