Ian... We’ve only been lost the once since we’ve been here and neither of us have figured out exactly how it happened - something to do with turning right instead of left at some point. We were trying to be clever and take a shortcut from our place of dinner to our intended drinking hole using nothing but a tiny map that we’d got from the hotel. It happened quite late at night, so alcohol may have been involved in the decision to take this ambitious route. We ended up walking down a very dark, virtually deserted road (a rarity here). Fortunately, we came across an area map showing where we were and where everything else was, unfortunately, it was entirely in kanji characters and so was about as much use as a chocolate teapot. ... read more

Rach... Hello Blogmates, and “ohayo gozaimass” from Shibuya, Tokyo! This place is intensely exciting. For the final stretch of our tour we find ourselves beyond the familiar domain of western society, yet (thankfully!) without having to forego the ‘cherries’ of civilisation, such as basic human rights, decent plumbing and access to white burgundy. We are revelling in the alien culture. There’s so much to remember; so little we recognise. Yesterday, for example, I tried to eat from a basket of pot pourri in the hotel foyer thinking it was a bar snack. But why worry about the faux pas we know we’ve made, when there will be a million others which we won’t know a thing about! We have learned a few basic Japanese phrases, and these are going a long way. We’re able to ... read more

Tokyo is an amazing city!! It was a whirlwind 2 days spent here but we had a fantastic time!! We definately liked the vibe that Tokyo gave off. It seems to be a city with such life and energy. For me it had a that big city feel like I got while living in London. We took the bullet train from Osaka on Friday afternoon and arrived three hours later at Tokyo Station which is easily the biggest and busiest train station I have ever seen. It was chaos!! But we managed to make our way to where we needed to be ( with the help of a nice Japanese man ). We met up at a tiny little Irish Pub with Lisa's friend Mary Fish. We spent a few hours there with Mary and some ... read more

Its sooooo cold here! Same as you guys in Engalnd! What a place though, we knew no one would speak english here so we had prepared ourselves, but its not till you arrive and really experience it thats its real. You try talking to someone especially when trying to find your hotel, you get a blank expression and a response in Japanese, with both sides having no idea what the other said. Apart from that we had a brill time and got through the language with flying colours. Speaking with your hands and a bit of role play works wonders! After finallly finding the hotel and a 1 hour 30 mins train journey after a 8 hour flight, we arrived and checked in, only to find out check in was at 3.00pm, it was 8.00am in ... read more

... read more

Hi everyone! We are currently in Michigan now....just relaxing and waiting for our VISA numbers before heading over to S. Korea. We're not exactly sure of the date that we leave now, as this whole VISA process is taking a lot longer than expected, but we'll be sure to let everyone know as soon as we know! In the meantime, here are our last couple of blogs from Japan that we've been delaying... Enjoy! These pictures are from one of our last days in Japan, when we spent the day in Shibuya. We headed over later in the afternoon, and after enjoying a conveyor-belt sushi lunch and spending a few hours in a "love hotel," we met up with some of our friends for dinner. We had been highly anticipating this dinner, as we were going ... read more

Hi everyone Mike, so what happened with Tokyo’s undercover police ?? jaywalk !! spitting !! busy hands !!, or unnecessary roughness during traffic hours !!. nope nope nope, none above. I was maybe a little bit emotional but not enough to get myself in trouble. I didn’t do anything wrong and just forgot to bring my passport with me and they weren’t happy with it. WHY!! I don’t know but was told by the undercover cops that I should carry my passport or an alien ID. Anyways, story cut short. I was busy taking pictures during the morning rush hours and maybe to them I’m might be a spy or a burglar. I was confronted twice by the undercover cops. First time, I simply ignored two undercover cops and they were not friendly at all. They ... read more
