Temples Shiva, Brahma, Vishnu
#642 on the World heritage list is Prambanan, a series of hindu temples built in the 9 and 10th centuries. Its tall narrow temples reach up to 47 meters in honor of the hindu gods Shiva, Brahma, and Vishnu.

On May 27th of 2006 an earthquake in the region claimed the lives of 6,800 people and left the some temples little more than a pile of ancient stones. When we were there the construction was well underway, with bamboo scaffolding and piles of catogorized and labled stones reaching for acres. Stone masons worked in the sun and heat with hammer and chisel to re-form stones that could not be salvaged. A few of the smaller temples were standing once again and the larger ones did not appear to be far behind. We were shocked to learn that this is not the first time an earthquake has damaged the site, and each time it is rebuilt using the same ancient methods!
