After three flight cancellations and many calls to the airline, we finally had a confirmed flight out of Bali! After a further time change, we were routed via Brisbane with a connecting flight to Melbourne on the following day. It felt strange to see an airport again, but we were both ready to go home. As the flight took off, there was applause from our fellow passengers. Obviously, many others were ready to go home too. As luck would have it, we were seated next to a special gentleman on our first flight. He had already had several drinks at Denpasar airport and was quite intoxicated throughout the flight. The crew eventually stopped serving him drinks, but it was too late… Eventually, after being fed two meals and some non-alcoholic drinks, we had a reprieve when ... read more

It all started out with Patil whatsapping us that we should go for the Mount Bromo trek. Previous year after our amazing Singapore trip, we had decided to try and organize one International trip every year. So when Patil heard from his friend about Mount Bromo, he was quick to jump on it. This time convincing people was not very difficult after our successful and fun filled Singapore trip. Even KP (who previously needed at least 5 people confirmed to even think about a trip) agreed almost immediately. So the final list of people included me, Arvind, GP (Suhas), Harsh, KP, Patil, Pramod and Preejit. We first had a few Google hangout sessions to decide the places to visit. Once that was decided, we met during a weekend to book the flights and hotels. The hotel ... read more

Hello, This is my real first day in bali because it started this morning at 7.00 AM and not 10.00 PM yesterday. I woke up this morning with excitment and no plan at all. I was hungry and my breakfast was included with my room so I first had a comfortable shower and then run to the reception to enjoy breakfast. The hotel is pretty empty which is good, i feel really relaxing. I came 15 min before the breakfast started, 15 minutes later the receptionist woman bring me a banana leave with a suprise in. It was my first food in bali and it looked already amazing. I opened the banana leave and found inside rice, nut, chili, coconut and few ingredients that I couldn't tell what is it. It was really nice I loved ... read more

Hello, My first moment in Bali was at 10.00 PM, I land in Denpasar airport where like everyone told me, a lot of balinese taxi man were waiting for the tourist to drop them somewhere. I had to say no to 10 of them, my airport transfer to the hotel was booked already. One men nicely advise me to go to the information point, because I couldnt find the person who was suppose to greet me. It was acually a superb idea, the lady called trhough the microphone my hotel name and my name, 3 minutes after someone came with the little sign in the hand saying "Flora Morel". He drop me at the hotel 20 or 30 minutes after. I was feeling a bit worried in the car, that is the problem when you are ... read more

It was a little bit unusual for us to be returning to the same place we had been just a few months ago: same hotel, same taxi driver picking us up, and many of the same staff greeting us. It felt a bit like a home away from home, which is kind of cool, having hotel staff remembering us clearly from our last visit and welcoming us to the other side of the world again. Perhaps this is the start of establishing new roots in this part if the world, as we do love it here and our plans seem to indicate returning regularly. This was intended to be a very brief stopover, just enough time for us to take the usual needed rest after a travel day. This time, however, we had had two travel ... read more

The Puri Lukisan Museum is the oldest art museum in Ubud. It's mission is to preserve, develop and document modern-traditional Balinese art. The museum is home to the finest collection of modern, traditional Balinese painting and wood carvings on the island, spanning from 1930-1945. Gusti Nyoman Lempad (1862-1978); Anak Agung Gde Sobrat (1919-1992); Gusti Made Deblog (1910-1968) are primary artistis. Founder was Tjokonda Gde Agung Sukawati, plus two foreign artists, Rudolf Bonnet and Walter Spies. The grounds are beautifully maintained, with a lovely lotus pond and statue. Three buildings contain art and the forth building is a cafe serving tea and cappicuno.......... With this blog being short on words, I thought I'd like to end with the amazing 'lotus' flower, which is sacred and protected in Bali. They are so beautiful not to share.......There are many ... read more

I am sitting on my veranda, watching a deluge of water coming down from the sky! A true tropical torrent, which produces a lush landscape of beautiful flowers, tropical greenery and a cooling off, which is delightful! Though the rain is loud, I can still hear the roosters crowing! I think they are happy for the cooling off as well. My upstairs neighbors are playing the Hang Drum and beautiful, soft music is wafting down which sounds lovely. I want to tell you about the currency! It is called a 'Rupiah'; the notes are as follows: 10,000 ($10.), 50,000 ($5.); 1,000 ($1.); 5,000 (.50); 2,000 (.20). There are coins but with very little value. You are probably wondering how I fill up my time! To begin, I have met interesting and fun women, and one man, ... read more

Hello to all my followers, Over the past few days i have been extremely busy. Also the wi-fi connection is very bad. Here are some of the things I have done... -Our final day in Malang On our final day in Malang we had a pool day. For the hotel we were staying at had a water slide. After that we caught our plane to Bali, Denpasar. When we arrived to Bali we were very surprised on how many tourist there were. We also had another mishap which was... when we were driving to the air port in a mini bus we turned and a motor bike smashed right into the bus. The rider was fine but he was more worried about the damage on his motor bike. Also the bus was quite damaged. But we ... read more

BUGGER BALI! Dr Smug has to report a bit of a Fu...ng disaster. No, not another puncture. Not a palate-destroying nasi goreng. Worse. Much worse. The buggers in the Bali immigration department will not accept cycling down Sumatra as an excuse for requesting a visa renewal 3 and not the stipulated 7 days before expiry of my current visa. What a bloody cheek!. I tried pleading but was stonewalled. I could've got a return flight to Singapore to get a new 30 day visa but I thought that would be counter-intuitive to the basic philosophy (get moi!) of this trip. I will miss out on scuba and dragons on Flores/Komodo but on the plus side, will get home a month early. Ofcoure it will land me in Queensland bang in the middle of cyclone season but ... read more

For the months leading up to my departure I was often surprised at people’s reaction to my plans. The idea of setting off with an itinerary consisting of a rough brainstorm at best, alone around the world seemed to terrify most. Having had the opportunity to explore a vast portion of the globe with family as a child however, I put their reaction down to a lack of understanding and naivety. As I sit in seat 28A on my way to Denpasar however, I feel it may have been me that didn’t entirely understand the sheer magnitude of such a journey. I love to travel. And I should, as it’s a passion passed down through my family as if a genetic trait. My mother often toyed with the idea of becoming a travel agent, only held ... read more
