Namaste(Hello) All, Well, it's fair to say that a bus journey in India is nothing like a bus journey we've experienced any where else! We thought that we had booked a tourist bus with a/c, but that service wasn't running. This bus was a sleeper and we just didn't believe how many people went up into the bunks above us It wasn't until we stopped and most of the people all got off that we realised!!! At the start of the journey, there wasn't anyone sat in the aisle, but this soon changed as more and more people got on, and when it stopped halfway, we would have lost our seats if we'd got off!! Later as it started to rain, someone banged on the roof and the driver pulled up for a pee stop. Now ... read more

Jodhpur's hot, busy, buzzing, but has a great fort and palace (and just as importantly, our little hotel ( the cheapest yet) turned out to have the surprising additions of a swimming pool and huge gardens, otherwise we'd be COMPLETELY insane with the heat by now...) Three days here and already dreaming of moving on. I like it, but it's huge - takes 30 mins in a rackety, bumpy tuktuk to get anywhere at all - but there are far fewer potholes waiting to ambush you in Jodhpur, so riding along here is a breeze....far less chance of being catapulted out of the vehicle and landing 50 yards down the road than in Jaisalmer!... read more

Well my trip started with some weird days leading up to it. But they’ve been edited to protect the involved. Taking the train home Saturday I called Eric, my ride to the airport. He picked me up and we were off to my house so I could pack. Yup. You heard it right. I didn’t pack until Saturday morning. Oh well. What are you going to do? I was busy and happily Friday night was spent in a real bed instead of my futon. I truly hope this is the start of something new. Anyway. Back to the story. After packing from approximately 1240pm I was ready to go in an hour. Bags packed. Umbrella and rain coat retrieved from inside. We were off to the start of my trip to India for the marriage of ... read more

.....crazy in a lovely way, a great way to describe the journey so far. We´ve done a lot since our last entry. It is a little overwhelming to backtrack and realize all that we´ve been through. We´re not through yet, but we have made our way out of Asia. We had mixed emotions about leaving which is normal after spending 7 months traveling through. It was our home. We miss it a little now that we are in Spain. We have been blessed again with good fortune and have managed to secure a beautiful apartment in the heart of Sevilla. We have a ton of photos to put up so here is our first installment of a series. ... read more

After arriving in Jodhpur, we took a rickshaw to a hotel we'd chosen out of our guidebook, only to discover it was under construction, and thus booked. The owner of the hotel (the great-grandson of the maharaja of Jodhpur no less, and with a mustache to match his royal heritage) called another guest house, who came to pick us up, and it was fantastic. It was so hard for Brian and I to relax and let people help us, as in Jaipur this usually ends in trouble, but everyone in Jodhpur was genuinely helpful. We stayed in a fabulous room with paintings on the walls and a bathroom with a sit toilet and hot water for Rs 200 a night (four bucks), and the owner of the hotel took us all over Jodhpur looking for a ... read more

I am here in India! I have been so busy with settling in and going to school, that it's been hard for me to find much time to write emails, so I apologize for not updating sooner. I truly am having a wonderful time here in India. I feel as though I've already experienced so much, and it's truly been remarkable. First off, I'll tell you a little about my studies. I am attending Holy Cross English High School for girls. There are 71 girls in my classroom. I have to wear a uniform each day to school, which is kind of different for me. I was placed in green house at school, so I wear a green tie and sash each day. Also, on Thursday's we wear a white outfit. School has been very, very ... read more

Back on the trains again after the brief deflection to buses between Jaipur and Pushkar. We arrived in Jodhpur with the intention of staying only a day. After some searching and consulting the Lonely Planet we found a hotel (The Blue House) with a fantastic view of the fort from the roof. We finally settled on a fabulous room after dismissing the first room we were shown due to the complimentary giant cockroaches! Our host Manish was quick to explain it was due to a wall being knocked from his next door neighbours house and renovations they were doing. We quickly settled on another room which was spotlessly clean and minus the bugs. The family were Jain and so also followed the strict regime of no meat, no alcohol and no eggs, much to Eds disgust....3 ... read more

As far as I can tell, only in (northern?) India... do you find conglomerates of pedestrians, cars, trucks, auto-rickshaws, bicycle-rickshaws, camels, donkeys, horses, and cows all mixed together in a crowded flux through the streets... do people nominate slight accidents, traffic blocks, foreigners buying something loud or interesting in the streets, or basically anything even slightly out of the ordinary as spectacles worth crowding around and delegate themselves traffic cops, road workers, negotiators, spectators, or whatever else is called upon... do people carry objects four times their own size and probably their weight up steep hills or twisting mountain passes and call it part of everyday life... do gaggles of women and children climb and descend mountains that we foreigners climb in hiking boots carrying 2 liters of water, trail mix, and lunch... with flip-flops and ... read more
