One thing that definitely deserves it's own blog because it is a whole other world of it's own is the party life of China. Remember, I come from a small "city" (after China I struggle to see Christchurch as city it's more a small town), that after earthquakes rocked the city we were left with no town to party at so it would be drinks at your friend's flat. Also, being in NZ drinks were so expensive you would always predrink/pregame (for the American's I'll add that in), before going out so you really only had to buy one or two while in town. Well let me take you down a completely different path of experiences when I came to China. I first experienced what the party life was like when I spent that one week ... read more

I hadn't been feeling too well during the night, so my plans to get up early and go explore were nixed. I stayed in bed to catch up on some sleep before finally getting ready to head out. When I was checking out, I was able to leave my backpack there, so that I didn't have to lug it around with me. My first stop was breakfast and I headed to the Starbucks near the subway station, so that I could get food and a caffeine hit. This place was tiny and really busy, however I was lucky to be able to snag a seat. I decided to have a slow start to my morning and spent some time reading my book. When I was finally ready to tear myself away from my book, I headed ... read more

The train was pretty quick and comfortable, getting me to Nanjing in about two and a half hours. I headed straight to my hostel to drop off my bag. The instructions were pretty straightforward, but some better signage would have made it easier to find. Even though I was there before check-in time, my bed was ready so I was able to head straight to my room. That was a relief as my phone desperately needed to be charged for a bit. I also looked up online what I should see and do. I had looked up some places ages ago, but only had vague memories. I decided to head to the Fuzi Miao area today and to go to the Nanjing Massacre Memorial the next day as it wasn't open today. I took the subway ... read more

Here we are, It is Thursday , and it has been a busy few days. unfortunately that means the updates have been few and far between, and am sorry about that, but there has been so much going that it has been important to focus on everyone here, I am sure you can understand. Going back to my last entry it was on Sunday after we completed Dance and Style compeetition, seems so long ago. Monday morning we had training for Freedance, which is a much better time frame this year for skaters to have the ability to recover and prepare for whatever is next. Last year there was training and competition in the one day which was far from ideal, with this years program much better in my opinion. The senior did train at 6am ... read more

Finally today is the day we have done all the work for has arrived. It really doesn't matter how often you prepare for it , how much your tremendously hard working coach expains it to you, there is really nothing like the first day of compeition at this level. And while Liv kept herself really composed and did a great job today, I am sure she would say of given an opportunitty into the future , she will be so much better prepared. Things were a little hit and miss early this morning, but once we got on the bus , everything started to calm down and everything worked pretty well from there. Having to skate twice with a couple of hour break presents its own challenges, especially when the buses are a debacle, and generally ... read more

I am sure practice does make perfect however , it generally takes too long for most people. Anyway regardless we had officiall training today, and while every skater ever on the universe (some poetic licence) gets to the first training at worlds and has a heart attack, todays experience was pretty good. A reasonably calm skater, and a fairly good practice. The pressure is off a little when you know there is a level you are trying to apsire to that you aren't quite at yet, and are attending an event like this to learn and develop, with that state of mind I certainly think days like today run much easier. I am just hoping that calmness conitues on for tomorrow. After training we had time to go and watch Daniel and his friends play hockey ... read more

Well it is now Thursday night, and after about an hour in the phone shop, we have portable WIFI!! So as I sit here at the stadium watching Junior ladies figures between the third and the final figure, I have time to update what has happenned today. The finally got some sleep, that is the most important point, and means certainly the Snoopsta and I feel a lot better that yesterday. Last night there was some fun during dinner (which did take a while to come) when she was pretty mcuh crying through tiredness, was quite funny to watch ;). anyway breakfast on the 41st floor this morning was fine, slightly below what you might expect at the sheraton but certainly fine for what we need. After breakfast we went for a walk around the nearby ... read more

And we are away, for a change a reasonably peaceful departure, no mad traffic, no airport issues, No overweight mad re-packing (couple of little shuffles) , am starting to think packing issues were all fedsy's fault. And now we are winging are way North-north-west towards Asia. Internet on the flight is great, but no Facebook, no google, doesn't seem to want me to loginto hotmail, so not all that useful, but it is nice that they tried. The little cherub is sort of sleeping, hopefully she will stay alseep for a bit, had an argument to get her Vegetarian meal but in he end they brought one down from Business which was nice. Other than that little hiccup the China Southern plane is pretty much the same as any other international flight, with all the things ... read more

Finally it is time to go!! After a hectic 6 weeks of training, it is finally time to go to China. It feels a little surreal, but happy to be leaving, just need to make sure we haven't forgotten anything. Training has been surprisingly calm and beneficial, and we have achieved a lot in a short amount of time. Credit goes to the snoopsta for being focused and relaxed , and dedicating herself on multiple training days , many without me working hard on the important things. Might be a false sense of security, but I am feeling quite relaxed and ready for this next adventure. Have been watching everyone arrive in China and listening to all the reports. Most things in China seem to be going quite well, some issue with the Inline venue that ... read more

In just 4 weeks I will be travelling to Nanjing China to watch Olivia and Daniel compete at the World Roller Games. China has a lot of restrictions on the use of social media, so this travel blog will hopefully allow me to share some photos with my family and friends while we are away :)... read more
