Well that was a mammoth of a journey! Since my last entry, I have travelled roughly 2500km from Dar es Salaam on the east coast of Tanzania, to the Zambian town of Livingstone on the Zambian/Zimbabwe border. After being in a place where a trip "down the road" is a 3 hour journey, the UK is going to feel like a very small island indeed. If it's still recognisable by the time I get back. Seriously, I leave home for 2 months and we're leaving the EU; we have a new PM whom every aspect of the media is insisting on comparing to Maggie T; and now the Welsh are officially better at football then us. I suppose it was expected for the country to descend into chaos in my absence. Anyway, back to the matter ... read more

Day 4 was a silly day as we just drove the 6 hours to Lusaka. This diver is fairly slow and it took us longer than usual, but we still had to get up at 5am and leave by 6. I tried to ask if we could sleep in as I had done this drive before and knew it was close and easy. Got quite a lot of backlash from out tour leader and realized im on a Nazi tour of Africa…We also went shopping, again, despite having gone twice the day before. So a Nazi shopping tour it is. I was the only one who went into town form the camp area to purchase a bottle opener that I got before and lost. It is like the one I picked up in Burma. That one ... read more

When I came back to the hostel there was a mirror pitching a tent and I got confused. Just as tall, if not taller, a guy named Magnus has had his dreadlocks for 14 years. He is from Germany just traveling through Africa like me! We joined forces and conquered all things Livingstone had to offer for some days. We had plans to visit some gorge where there was a Trance party going on for a few days but it rained and we waited til it was dry to move. It really sucks to be in a tent and have to pack up when its wet. It sucks so much I sacrificed a day to get it right. Aaaaand luck be had I was enquiring about a bus to the capital when a South African lady ... read more

Last few days Saturday Saturday morning a team of NGO workers (non- Governmental organisations) are playing football against M’teza and Shelby and I go to watch. M'teza are 2-0 down, but our advent brings them luck as they have equalised by the time we leave for art club, and eventually beat the away team. Art club is very successful. We start off with 7, get three more before too long, and then get another six. We’ve done a sample picture of ’Take your pencil for a walk’ and a collage. They mostly do the former, but then turn the paper over and start sticking pictures. They are all loth to start and Shelby and i start them off. (Kindisch, ... read more

Lusaka is not a beautiful city by any definition I would venture to say, but it would be an injustice to say it is also lacking in character. I soon discovered that Zambians are, by and large, quite friendly and helpful by nature. I spent the first 3 nights in a hostel called Kalulu. It was a busy place in the evenings since it had a bar, a pool table and DSTV (digital network channels broadcast from South Africa). I didn't mind this particularly because the patrons seemed to behave themselves and those of us in the dormitories were left to our own devices. The first night I shared my dorm with a German student, Ursula, who had come out to research indigenous foodstuffs, something which I've always been curious about. I mean, what did Africans ... read more

Hello everyone - greetings at the end of a very long, sweaty, teary, emotionally-charged, challenging and physically demanding day! There! That sums it up. And what a day it's been. We started out with a breakfast meeting hosted by Sandy Salle, President/CEO of http://www.hillsofafrica.com - explaining what the day will look like. We were invited to set our intentions for the day and, for the most part, being high-achieving individuals and entrepreneurs, our common intention was to stay focused and be in the moment. That was certainly my intention - to let go of any challenges, stuff cluttering my brain, business concerns, etc. - and, rather, just BE here ...... (I will add that breakfast today was super yummy - especially the custom made veggie omelet and, of course, the chocolate croissant! Yup - giving in ... read more

Whohoooo - and a happy good morning to everyone! Up and at 'em early in Johannesburg - and had an incredible breakfast at the hotel (you saw those photos in my blog from yesterday). This is a really special day because it is my brother Art's birthday!! For any of you who know me at all, you do know how much I love and adore him - so, happy birthday, Art (because I know you and the family are reading this and following my trip)!! This is the official start of the 'Give Movement Journey' started by my coach, Suzanne Evans, 3 years ago. I was on the first trip and am very excited to be part of the return visit this year. So many elements to the trip this time - stay with me and ... read more
